Just thought I'd point out two things I stumbled across on the web. The first are two video downloads on his website, one of which is a version of Windpower as performed on his recent tour - which, sadly I missed, and of which, Channel 4's pathetic...

I 'got' Cash late, only really after seeing 'Walk the Line' and have bought a 'Best of..' and the American Recordings series. This final collection is sublime. Simple, personal, intimate and un-self conciouslessly melancholic. The sound of a man...

Everything but the kitchen sink music!Theremins, brass bands, percussion, strings etc etc. Not the most subtle record you will hear this year but they really aim to distance themselves from the bulk of the music industry which is far to safe sounding...

Anybody been listening to his stuff? A colleague loaned me Illinoise and it's worth a listen. Hard to describe but there's a lot of delicate, tuneful jazzy folk in there. Sometimes I see colours in my head when listening to music that affects me and I...

In the midst of particularly boring task at work the other day, I decided to play some of Schubert's great C major symphony in my head (of which the title of this thread is a pathetic attempt to describe). However, what struck me was that I couldn't...

So.......I've just scored a ticket for deep purple at Montreux for tomorrow.Has anyone seen them recently and give an idea of what I can expect for the playlist?Mind you - I imagine for such a gig it will be a classic type setlist rather than pushing...

Is the largest free jazz festival in the country. It kicks off with the Blues 'n' Roots festival next Saturday (my favourite day). If you're in the area, get down there for loads of free music, beer and food (not free!) over the coming month.Mark

To quote Tom Lehrer "It's a sobering thought that by the time Mozart was my age he'd been dead for three years." I know how he felt, though I not yet quite old enough to have outlived him, I did nearly choke on whatever it was I was drinking when I...

I had initially intended to write about the Verdi Requiem (and, that will still occupy the bulk of this post) but I thought I might try to cast the net a little wider. There is something very special about good choral singing, and good choral singing...

I recall a post a while ago about Morrissey's Ringleader of the Tormentors. On first listen I wasn't enamoured. But it is, as they say, a 'grower'. This often seems to happen - I tire of something with immediate appeal, but things I'm initially...

Hi, Going back to vinyl has it's unexpected compensations. OK, there is a lot of boring vinyl in charity shops, but you only have to hit lucky once, when a good, clean, collection has just come in. Mine was today. What was your best charity/junk shop...

I know that for a lot of people each relistening of a favoured album gives them great pleasure. But for me, the greatest pleasure comes from hearing an album for the first time. That first initial discovery factor, often even of a genre or artist that...

Anybody watch the coverage of T in the Park? They did not seem to show much of the bands i thought. I know that there will be weekly shows on the telly soon so i am hoping to see full sets (or more than just 2 or 3 tracks).Really liked The Go! Team.
