I have owned the first album, which came out in 04, for a few months and it is a really happy and assured grower. Anyhow, the new one is more of the same but with a more varied and uptempo feel but with the quirky quality firmly intact.A smart and...

Alas, this is not his complete cycle recorded in 1970. Rather, it’s his final recording for Simax of two of Beethoven’s finest sonatas – the 31/3 and 111 – made in 1988 just a few months before his death. Robert Riefling, for...

When on Running Order Squabble (This Leaden Pall), Nigel sung "You're going on after Crispy Ambulance", I thought it was a joke. However I now discover, courtsey of a friend, that there is indeed a group called Crispy Ambulance and they have their own...

Scott Walker's last record 'Tilt' was released eleven years ago. The Drift follows the same sonic territory with even less emphasis on conventional song structures and more on repeated blocks of sound.A true artist on a singular path - 'The Drift' is...

Finally got round to playing this as bought within a large multi-purchase a little while ago. Jolly good it is too. Terrific album and a suitable disc to admire how Hi your Fi is!

I was listening to a great album the other day by Gaudi that uses the Ondes Martenot, which is an early keyboard based electronic instrument, based on the same sound generator as the Theremin. I know that it was used by Messiaen, Varese, Milhaud and...

Tam,You didn't miss much. Good to hear a legend live. But I'm afraid the performance was a bit lack lustre. Whereas I was glad that I taped the recent Dave Gilmour and Petshop Boys radio 2 concerts , I didn't regret not taping this Paul Simon Concert.

Kleiber/VPO & Bohm/VPO with Beethoven's 5th Both of these recordings are(were?) on DG and from the same era (1975 and 1970 respectivly I think). I've owned both for years and years but the Bohm, being part of a boxed set never got played much since it was too much trouble to dig in the box for it. Same story with the 'Pastoral' but that is another story. I've just played these back to back and Tam asked me to comment so here goes. This will be short and unsubtle since I'm no connisseur. ...

..then you might give The Essex Green 'Cannibal Sea' a punt. Not quite as irrepressible but similar feel with alternating vocalists and a brisk melody filled pace. Bit like a modern version of early 10,000 maniacs too.Pichforkmedia review here which...

Those who read my posts will doubtless be aware how I feel about Charles Mackerras. I am also a fan of Janacek and have a particularly soft spot for Makropulos because it was the first 'good' opera I ever saw. Previously I'd seen a rather poor Manon...

Has anyone the same sensation - especially on "East" ?Frisells guitar seems to "arrive" from somewhere between left of the left speaker and infinity. His guitar sound is more like a "cloud" than a fixed point on the sound stage.I swear - I ain't been...

Hello forum, I dug out my 1990 copy of Shake Your Money Maker last night, an album I have always loved. However, my more revealing Naim system left me thinking that the recording wasn't as good as it might have been. Does anyone know if this album has...

Don't like your Wagner, preferably over 4 days, then look away now!I have, effectively, 3 rings in my collection: the Solti, the Bohm and the Levine (though I don't really count that one since it's on dvd and I rarely watch it). I've had the Solti for...
