Hi all! I was just listening to Eva's version of this and wondered if there was possibly a better version by some body? And, feel free to mention what other tune gives ya Goosebumps in what ever genre ;O) Stuart
Having spent the last 30 years building up a CD collection that has overtaken the house (now on 6TBs of storage - an Herculean task in itself), more and more I'm in record shop (if you can find them these days) and I hear something that takes my fancy only to be told that it's available on Vinyl and Download. Having left vinyl in mid-80's when it was at a nadir I'm not going back there even though I appreciate sound quality and the full blown beauty of the artwork. So tentatively dipping my...
it is being reported that George Martin has died at the age of 90. He will be sadly missed.
Good Grief! Is it just my age or just me but with George Martin earlier this is no fun
I am currently refreshing my vinyl collection of Rush and have been buying the 2015 reissues on 180 g vinyl. Most have been excellent but I have had repeat problems with "A Farewell to Kings" and surface noise just where you don't want it, at the start of Xanadu. My second copy going back to Amazon tomorrow, hopefully third time lucky. However the main question is this mornings shock when I played my brand new copy of "Exit Stage Left" which I have previously only owned on CD. Side one (I...
I've been getting into the Blues a bit more as of late. I know a little but I'm sure there is much I need help finding so how about giving sone suggestions to check out.
This year's Connection magazine has arrived. On page 9, the (rather wonderful) Jon Green - the engineer behind the equally wonderful 272 is asked 'what would be your favourite track to play to show off the potential of a Naim system?' The answer - not some Naim label noodling, not some prog rubbish, but the mighty Smiths, world's best band ever - specifically 'What Difference Does It Make?' from the 1983 John Peel sessions. Clearly now that The Smiths are Naim approved, everyone...
If you could mention the (one) song , that changed you the most, as person. (In a specific/ many ways), what would it be? Indulge me, for the sake of showing variety. My fathers favorite: hey joe by Hendrix Experience. My fav: rape me by Nirvana...
Pink Floyd. The Wall. easy choice The Who. Tommy. a classic and maybe the incarnation Green Day. American Idiot. could be #1 if not for my reverence for the aforementioned bands Meat Loaf. Bat Out Of Hell. powerful, impassioned vocal performances despite the shit SQ Jesus Christ Superstar. maybe more of a musical - I've not heard it for a long while, but have fond memories from back in the day
A quick search on this forum has shown only two references to Sleaford Mods (both in chart lists). So to date they have not been discussed on here as such. Clearly they are not everyone's cup of tea. See what you make of their performance of Jobseeker. Be warned there are some swear words. Fair play to Jools Holland for having them on. Lord knows what their audience thought of it.
Dan Hicks has died aged 74. Another one from Cancer. What a bad year.

a most wonderful evening in the company of Katie Melua, David Bowie, Boris Blank, and Curtis Stigers. Time to retire before someone else turns up and keeps me awake all night. Nos da.
A profile of the influential British reggae band - from Stu to Nigel/HH
I just received the CD and had my first listen tonight. It sounds like the band were in studio A and the microphones in studio B. No sparkle or definition. Anyone else heard this? Dave
Given the wild popularity of opera on this forum (ahem...), why no separate thread? I'll kick off with probably the most popular of all time: Puccini's La Boheme. Technically, I wouldn't call this his best (that distinction goes to the first of...

On Friday I downloaded Band on the Run and Venus and Mars by Paul McCartney and Wings as 96KHZ FLACs from High Res Audio. Both albums were deluxe versions with extra tracks. However, the 'original' album tracks are different versions from the ones on the 'classic' albums/CDs. These tracks are a different performance/recording to the classic versions and nowhere near as good with a lot a piano/vocal solos from McCartney. I expect that a 'deluxe' version will have additional tracks...
(Not sure if this is appropriate here or more in the Padded Cell) This might be showing my inexperience here... but has anyone seen the Jazz at 33⅓ "partwork" which started recently. The first release was Miles Davies: Kind of Blue. Has anyone else bought it and compared the vinyl to originals or other versions and can comment on if the releases are worth getting in terms of sound quality. Kind of Blue sounds pretty good to me, but my reference is just the old standard CD. The first was...
Can anyone comment on the 192 24bit files now available? Good or meh, thanks.....
The new Elton John is very entertaining, notwithstanding a negative review from The Sunday Times. Available in 24 bit from Qobuz and Hdtracks
I've heard amateur orchestras playing many times - and their shortcomings are easliy heard. The prime one being the difficulty they have in producing a really nice tone from the upper strings. Any idea why this is? Poorer instruments? Is the violin more difficult to master, or are our ears better attuned to distortions at high frquencies? I heard the Sibelius VC played a few days ago, with a professional soloist and the difference in 'tone' was staggering.
I saw Earth Wind and Fire live when I was young. There were more people on stage than there was in the audience. It was in interesting and memorable gig that was very different from the music I was into at the time but no less enjoyable for it. The grim reaper has got it in for musicians this year.
