They sound really promising (from reviews, I'm still waiting for delivery of their single released this week) as far as recent years indie bands have gone but is it all hype? The Culture Show seemed impressed with them last week too.Their first single...
Which is the best version of the above classic sound-wise? Is there a big difference between orignal CD version and the deluxe version (or what about the difference between original CD version and the original version remastered from 1996)? I don't...
WOW - just dug out some old vinyl from the attic. Stuff from my musical upbringing that I forgot was there........First spin in years and loved it for what it was.The album in question - "Sammy Hagar - Live Loud and Clear".Now, it may not appeal to...
What do you think are unusually good career revivals from the grave: Here are a few that came to my mind (and that I like): Gary Numan: Pure (moody and scary, stellar production)Oasis: Don't believe the truth (they have found some tunes!)Johnny Cash:...
The recording of the strings and orchestra on the new Burt Bacharach album is absolutely fantastic. Apologies in opening a new thread to get you attention! This CD sounds seriously good. The scale, detail and minimum overdub 'live' sound makes this one...
Well, i have just sat through the entire 'Autobahn' track of 22mins from the remastered cd.Yeah, yeah, booooooooring some of you might say and ,well, yes i can very much see your point. But putting that aside, considering the amount of electronic...
...well, Geoff, not as remarkable as McPartland, but still: D'Rivera is one of those Cuban musicians that are not JUST OLD, but keep a history both in Jazz and their country. His newest CD - "The JAZZ chamber trio" which is spinning on my CDP right now...
For those folks who like their Jazz improvisational but "quieter" than Coltrane & Bird check out: Marion McPartland & Friends : 85 Candles A 2CD set in which McPartland's 85 birthday is celebrated by numerous excellent Jazz artists and shows this English Grande Dame of Jazz piano can still really play. Incidentally it includes a rendition of "The nearness of you" from Norah Jones which rather than off putting is worth buying it for. She is sensationally good on this track. regards Geoff
Can anyone recommend where to make a start on appreciating the recorded work of Miss Ella Fitzgerald; and also Ms PJ Harvey ?

You can hear Shirley in conversation with Dilly Barlow and listen to her choice of 10 tracks to take into space on Lewes's own Rocket Radio on 87.8 MHz. To be broadcast on Saturday 29th October at 17.00pm with a repeat on Sunday 30th October at...
Not intended as a slag off session, just a reflection on varying tastes and the surprise when a much anticipated album just fails to meet up to your expectations. The list could be long, but I'll start with just one -Smile by Brian WilsonGuy
I was listening to a broadcast of Motzart's Great Mass and whilst the soprano had a beautiful voice, when going for a high note, she invarably scooped. Why do sopranos insist on doing that?Brad
For those that are interested he has an album out of instrumentals titled 'Speechless'. Most of the tracks are previously released but there's 3 new ones and a lovely tune called 'Rise and Fall' which has only been available in Japan according to the...
An old favourite of mine, I was delighted to find a promo of his latest cd at a recent record fair. The album is released on Monday, and has already garnered The Independent album of the week, though Andy Gill could've been more generous as it truly...
I've just watched the Cream re-union concert on BBC4, great stuff, good to see EC having to work for a living. We're Going Wrong and White Room were the stand out numbers on first listening, Jack still sings like an angel. But why was Brian Sewell on...

The best live band that I've seen in the past 10 years seem to have disappeared without a trace. Anybody know where to?
I did this a while back on another forum. One for you music fans to mull over....I was thinking about this a couple of months back after listening to the Bridget Jones 2 OST...anyway I came up with a few after being inspired by Will Youngs version of...
This website has been recommended to me during a conversation in which I was (yet again) moaning about downloading music and its poor cost to value ratio.Apparently its legal and most new albums cost less than $2 to download and you choose the bitrate...
What happened to the fearsome, fabulous grump of the 1970s and 80s (and early 90s)?Waters was even described as "cuddly" in a recent interview with the Big Issue. Eh?What's going on? Apart from an alleged argument with Madogga at the Live8 rehearsals...
What piece of music (and in what format) would members use to dem their systems? Please DON'T go for Donna Summers' "I feel love" or say "everything you play". Mine is 12" single of Seccret Ceremony (Theme from Brond) by SCALA (Bill Nelson & Daryl Runswick) Bob
Has anyone tested the difference between a copy-protected CD and the same CD without copy-protection? Is there any sound difference? I see that many artists release one version with copy protection which is cheaper and usually one limited edt. with...
