I played two records last night that I haven't heard for a long time. The first was Big Star's '#1 Record' and the second 'Songs the Lord Taught Us' by the Cramps. The Big Star record is highly overrated as far as I'm concerned. Early Seventies plastic...

Dinner with your favourtie bandOr comedian/C-list celebSounds great to me! Imagine Brotherhood of Man performing "kisses for me" (Apparently they require a 8 by 5 foot piece of lounge carpet to do it on!) after dinner.Apparently Syd Little's Pete...
My cousin and and I, both avid music lovers and concert-goers, are re-discovering the joys of vinyl. My Rega 25/600 arm/Grado Statement Sonata combo sounds lovely; his Linn Axis/Garrott Brothers combo sounds equally delightful. I currently own about...
... just saw that this album is available on 200gm vinyl via Classic Records. I like this album a lot (I have it on CD), but what always annoys me is the sub-standard sound quality (which is very obvious on tracks like "feel to believe"). I was...
But that song for the tsunami disaster is really really awful. There I have said it.However I would be prepared to pay towards the relief if they don't play it.
Rickie Lee Jones is in the house! Her new album, The Evening Of My Best Day, is absolutely brilliant. Several songs are frankly political, and suffice to say, her politics align with mine. It's very tuneful, with really interesting melodic and harmonic...
Anyone been watching the moving doc? Well there is a classical concert tonight, which may be of interest:http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/classicaltv/holocaust/holocaustmusic.shtmlRegards
In our house there are several CDs we own in duplicate for one reason or another. My partner says she's going to give all the extra copies to her sister which I'm more than happy with. However it is now crossing my mind that in future first CD issues...
I often daydream of finding that mint original copy of Forever Changes in the three for a quid box but all I ever find is Richard Clayderman, boxed sets of Richard Strauss waltz's and Sheena Easton albums.Has anyone ever found anything worth having or...
When we go for an evaluation of a sound system or a component, we take our music with us, so we can hear different instruments, voices, PRAT, imaging and so forth. If you were allowed to take only one disc with you, which one would it be?I would take...
I'm a long-time fan but I kind of lost touch around 1994 until 2000. Having seen them live (and great) in Manchester two nights ago I have decided to plug this gap in my collection. Question is - how? One very dodgy looking Canadian copy on Amazon...

Having now accumalated a moderate collection of classical music (ancient to modern, 300 odd disks) it would be useful to tie it all together and so would be interested in any recommendations on some reading material on the history of classical music...
It's that time of year again so how about a list of must haves - all genres but no reissues, well OK if you think they're absolutely essential. It's not been a classic year in more ways than one but let's see what we can come up with

On the the release it says EMI number etc + "Dacapo". Are these later releases of these masterpieces or are they "originals"? Any thoughts Anders
Szymanowski is criminally neglected. He represents lush late romanticism at its finest. Of all of his extraordinary works, I can’t pick out a single favorite. But I can single out his Third Symphony, Song of the Night, as a work especially...
