Prompted by an item on Robert Elms' Radio London show on Friday afternoon, I dragged out all my old Donny Hathaway albums yesterday: In Performance, his superb debut Everything Is Everything, Donny Hathaway, and (the two I enjoyed most) Extensions Of...
Just noticed in the TV schedule that there's a documentary on Gram Parsons this Friday 5/3 @ 10.00PM on BBC4.Might be worth watching?Jack
Very interesting to watch PGs "Growing Up" last night, BBC4 [s'on 2nite 2], as I'd watched it on the Naim stand at the Bristol show in DVD? surround sound. It came out ok at home via 2 chnl tv sound thro' 15yr old W Diamonds. But played loud there was a lot of bass distortionn not all down to me as it sounded like the whole broadcast system was being over-loaded/driven by the very powerful bass. Not so apparent at home but very clear over the Naim system, was the very clean sound of this...
Just wondering what musical tastes are catered for, also was it a cd or vinyl? What are your favourite 2 tracks,Alan
The forum went down for a day, and when it came back, everything since March 3 is missing.Or is it somehow just me?
For anyone into Jazz with an unusual bent, there's a concert by the Bad Plus, recorded at the Barbican. They're an unusual looking Jazz trio with an eclectic range of music, including some very unusual covers (Nirvana, Aphex Twin etc.)Worth a peep for...
Has anybody found on their copy that there is distortion on Norah's voice and on some instruments.I thought it was my system until a friend also discovered this. I wondered if it was on copies sent to the Middle East only or whether others in Europe...
Over the last week bought a copy of Bill Evans "Sunday Night at the Village Vanguard" and Tomasz Stanko's "Suspended Night", both great records with a similar chamber jazz mood, but the Evans sounds sooo much better, like it's playing in the room. On...

A big thank you to Fred Simon who recommended Jonatha to me based on my preferences for female singer / songwriters. I just got a copy of "10 cent Wings" and its and absolute belter. From the first 5 second intro I was hooked. Great voice, songs and...
Has anyone heard JMs new solo album Pyramid electric company - it gets a mediochre review on Amazon and is only available in quaint black plastic format.Otherwise, after "Magnolia" which I have and enjoy, which are the other essential Songs Ohia albums

Does anyone know of a good place (a 'proper' store; not eBay) to pick up those Japanese (and non-Japanese)'mini-LP' CD's - the ones packaged in a mini LP sleeve...?There are loads I have missed - Led Zep, Genesis, Gabriel, King Crimson, Roxy Music,...
I intend to purchase a Johnny Cash CD. I'm not a huge fan of "Greatest Hits" albums. I seem to recall that someone mentioned a particularly good album by Cash on the forum not so long ago but I can't track it down. I appreciate that fans will have...
See my comments on the Gig Guide if you are interested.Denis
I bought this album cause I'm a total Natalie Stalker and I quite like it.is it just me or is her voice a little over-recorded in spots???I'm sure I heard the same quirk on 'Motherland'??Opinions?Joe90
I bought the above self titled album on a whim ans think it is the best debut release so far this year. It's a bit retro in an early 80's indie kind of way but has some really interesting melodies which set it apart.
Fallen Angel 90 minute documentary, repeated Sat 6 Mar @ 11.30PM BBC4: Fallen Angel Denis
Hi,Was at the Bristol Show today and listened to the above on DVD in a demo.I don't have any of her work yet but would like to investigate further...Which Cd is the best one to start off with?Ta for any replies...
Having just returned from the Bristol Hi Fi Show where I'd visited with a friend, he commented (I feel inclined to agree) that it seemed that every demo was being conducted using very much "Minimalist" music. You know, drums, sparse instruments, or...
Just picked up a CD of Larry Carlton and Steve Lukather live. It absolutely rocks. They even do this way funky down-tempo cover of Miles' "All Blues". Since I like this, perhaps others might suggest some good music in a similar (or even different)...
Any news? Only have the one cd =- H2C I think it's called - which I very much like - and wondered what they're up to and if there's anything new in the pipeline - gigs/releases/that sort of thing.John
Hi,A few years ago I bought the US pressing of Gossip. kind of liked it, but no more than that. On a whim I pulled it out for a spin the other day and was very impressed by good pop tunes with great arrangements and unlikely twists. And some, from...
