Sure, for the success of Beatles #1 filled many pockets. But I am tempted to say that this is another totally useless remaster. The whole thing sounds like ... plastic. The result does work relatively well on later tracks like Hello, Goodbye or The...

A selection of new tunes that I listen to between changing nappies this weekend. I got the write ups from an on line and they seem to describe the albums pretty well.1. Ghazal - Beautiful, mesmerizing, thrilling and profoundly musical ECM debut by the...

Does anyone listen to the vast choice of music over the internet radio? I don't because I don't yet have a super fast line and to use anything else would not be a good idea.It seem that radio via the internet reaches quite a few stations and quite a...

No idea what to expect, but sure it will be entertaining. The early rumour was that it was going to be a bit of an anti-war thing, which I didn't like the sound of, but now I hear they're just going to play Pink Flag non-stop from beginning to...

I often write about modern music or lesser known music, but how about works by the greats? Beethoven. Mozart. Mahler. You know the ones. Of the myriad recordings of all of the works by these illustrious composers, there are no doubt many fine or even...

I love 20th century music e.g Stravinsky [e.g Rite of Spring] + Bartok [e.g. 4th String Quartet] + Messiaen [e.g Visions d'Amen] ... etc. I don't really like Schoenberg's music but I think most modern music is based on him ; Stravinsky and Bartok did not leave schools. I DO like lots of stuff [Messiaen + Xenakis + Boulez] which I think would not have been possible without him. The symphony was invented by CPE Bach [I believe] but perfected by Beethoven. Please comment : I don't say the best...

RumoursIt's always bugged me, that this fine album by Fleetwood Mac sounds shite on CD, having presumably been mangled to CD in the early days of the format and never apparently, remastered.Well, my friends - I now have a Japanese copy of it (for...

I've seen her twice on her current tour and needless to say I'm in awe...The concert tonight was in a much larger and more sterile venue than the last but she still carried the crowd from the rockinest of songs to her quietest of whispers...the...

Picked up a copy of this last week. Its quite surprising how many good tracks are on these two CDs, though my preference being CD2. The majority of the tracks are original, and non of the main stream poop, which is a refreshing change, and I actually...

Having debated the best female singer of all time, it seems to me we ought to consider the finest male vocalist."Best" may mean different things to different people: most technically proficient, most "meaningful" or otherwise.I would rate James Brown...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Paris has got to be the historical records capital of Europe. I came back from our holidays with close to fifty CDs, and the vast majority of 'em were from the mono era, prompting Rosie to say it's kind of funny to put so...

I have recently acquired a Betty Carter LP, and I really think it's rather good. It's entitled 'Betty Carter meets Ray Bryant' - I think - does anybody else out there think she 'rocks'? and if so any recommendations for other releases?

I thought I wasn't a fan of 'operatic' singing until I discovered the stunning performance of Caccini's 'Ave Maria' on this CD. Very moving and highly recommended.Likewise any recommendations in a similar vein would be gratefully received!Nick
