Music Room
Mrs S was out for the evening (see Local Pub News), so I was left to look after the kids. As this usually means playing children's games (e.g. Farmyard Dominoes) with Miss Seagull (2¾) I decided to play some music to keep me sane.Rather than...
Over the years you get to trust the opinions of some journalists or magazines and know that maybe 90% of the time, at least in my case, you will not regret buying albums without hearing them first.I have also found and enjoyed loads of "new" (to me)...
The Guitarist thread got me thinking about the New Age music of the late 1980’s, I remember the Windham Hill label as being a name I would seek upon entering a record shop and the artists William Ackerman, Philip Aaberg & George Winston as people worth following. Has New Age evolved into something else? What are the new buzzwords? Who are the artists and labels to follow in this New New Age?

On the radio last night I heard a member from the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, name was William Kanengiser. Very intelligent discussion about the group and solo careers. Some great pieces were played. They have a new CD on Telarc 80593 of latin music...

I've just watched "The Flying Gardener" on BBC2 at 8:30 tonight, with Chris Beardshaw. There was a track for a couple of mins which sounded pretty good. It had a harmonica being played and that's probably all the information I could give.I went onto...
I remember reading in (cough cough) What-Hifi? in 1989 that New Order's Technique was out on DAT. Having just got a copy from Ebay (I've ALWAYS wanted a DAT prerecorded even though I have no DAT machine!), I was curious...Have discovered that Factory...

Check out this link:http://ccrma-www.stanford.edu/~brg/brahms2.htmlOther than the fact that the web page needs updating, the existence of a recording of Brahms playing some of his own music is interesting. No doubt the sound is hideous and the piece...
Been listening to Tahiti 80’s latest offering ‘Wallpaper For The Soul’ and enjoying it a whole lot. Not much word on this band goes round along these parts so thought I’d spread some round. Tahiti 80 is a band hailing from...
Just heard absolutely stunning version of Blue Nile's 'Let's Go Out Tonight' - different version than that from Hats LP. Any ideas where the track's available from?Geoff
Has anybody bought a Jools Holland and Friends CD? I have always enjoyed Jools and his band live and also on Radio 2 and TV and so I recently bought the CD (Volume 2) but feel that the sound quality is a big let down – a lot of noise and brightness...
I want the vinyl versions of Saturday 3am and Sunday 8pm. I know they were released, I've even seen them but stupidly didn't buy them at the time. Now they've vanished. Any net company that claims to have them doesn't. Any ideas?Alex
Anyone interested in bludegrass? I just picked up Alison Krause + Union station Live and really enjoy it. The guitar work is wonderful and her voice is somewhat like Emmylou Harris. Great live redcording too. Emmy's a fav tho I tend to like her...
Anybody heard George's last work. I'd be interested as I'm a long ago fan of his.
Having seen a stonking performance of Khovanshchina in English this week at ENO and not being able to gather much about what was going on onstage from anything I could hear [and this, in case I sound dissatisfied, was as spectacularly eyepopping as any opera about Orthodox Russian martyrs could hope to be - entire cast burnt alive for our entertainment .... with fireworks [Pink Floyd, just don't bother]] and noting that this year is the tenth anniversary of the surtitle, I wondered what the...
The latest tune is utter shite.I have seen them on the tele singing live a few times and the guys voice is frankly laughable, being worse than mine if thats possible and the music is at best copied.I have their first album, I played it once, right...
If I try I can chart my progress through life by certain musical moments. It started at school with what seemed like an innocent question: 'Do you Wanna be in My Gang?'. Gary's later activities have convinced me of the wisdom of not being. At...
Below is an article that ran in the Washington Post about a new program from Vox. (It’s archived, so I thought I’d save everyone some headaches.) Now this of some interest. Granted, $20 per disc seems a little high for many of the titles...
