(As I couldn't find the last one)Those of you who have the good fortune to visit Jawed's will well know that moment when, after a few pleasurable hours listening to other guests' music, the person who is on their first visit naively says "Why don't...

I picked it up today, the guy in the shop had never seen it before. Its fleetwood mac early stuff with other famous names and is basically an album of recording studio music.By that I mean in between songs you hear the engineers talking etc. Its a...

Does anyone have any recordings in the Decca Legends series. I'd like to know whether the sound quality is that much better than previous releases. One of my favourite Bruckner recordings is this and I wondered whether it was worth getting this...

Read and weep:End of The Evening SessionThis is really, really annoying. I've listened to this show for years as it has provided a great source of new material to go and buy, and by giving new bands the exposure they need in which to get noticed. I...

I have had this album for... errr... quite a long time, and, perhaps it was my infatuation with "Hounds of Love" but this one never seemed to quite make it into my top 10 list. Well, I have listened to it a couple more times recently and really...

Saw this fellow in concert friday at Crest.Jazz.Vocal festival in Crest in the Drome, France. He had a 5 piece band, Oud, Drums, Tuba, accordeon & Clarinet. This group really swings big time. I can highly recommend. The question is which album of his to start with, the new one, 'Il Sospiro' is solo Oud, I'd like a recording that has the same or similiar line up to the group I saw. Any suggestions ? Peter

Did you know that Paul Stephenson is making music?Lock at this: He wrote:I grew up in the northeast of England and my first musical heroes were the Beatles. I'm still a fan of McCartney's songs and Lennon's granny glasses. My other big hero is James...

Last week I went into a Borders to buy some CDs - the first time in a long time - because they had a "buy two, get one free" on Sony Essential Classics. I figured that even at the inflated asking price of $8 a pop I'd bite. The selection was pitiful...

"Mark who?", I thought.Apparently he hosted The Chart Show on Sundays, that's probably why I'd never heard of him then! Is it just my age (42 - probably about average on this forum). Mind you The Chart Show (or whatever it was called in my youth) was...

On the cover of this months Classic FM magazine there are 2 CD's. 'Classics for Kids' which contains more or less what you'd expect, but the 10th Anniversary CD is a delight. The best sampler I've come across since the Island ones of the early 70's....

Coltrane was where it ALL started for me - nearly 30 years ago now. This little record shop in Oxford had a deal with some (probably dodgy) supplier and had loads of cheap manufacturer's reject US Impulse pressings. They had XS surface noise or the...

Just thought some of you may want to know that the new Zappa live in Australia 2 CD set is finally ready for shipping. Still no info on which band, track listing, etc. You can get it from G&S Music in the UK www.gandsmusic.co.uk or from www.zappa.com . It's not a Ryko release, and I believe it's mail order only. There is footage of the Roxy and Elswhere concerts and it's pencilled in for a DVD release. However we have waited over ten years for the re-issue of the Baby Snakes film, so I'm...

Over the past week I've been on a quest for "new and amazing" music. (I was wishing that XTC had released more albums.) Here's what I've found so far:12 Rods "Separation Anxieties" - Really quite amazing, although they tend to sound a little "poppy"...

Mick, Observing your posts over the last few months, and noticing that we have certain Tastes in common, viz. camp scrumptious bints warbling operatically in diaphanous undergarments, I feel that it is imperative that you:1) Repair immediately to...

For me it's: Elton JohnNOT because he's gay (so is Cecil Taylor, after all) but because he's almost completely a talent-free zone and to cap it all had the crass affrontery to re-dedicate Candle In The Wind (the only song of his that ever did anything...
