I'm not a big compilation fan but just wanted to quietly rave about Tom Dunne's "30 Best Irish Hits". Its about as far from tweedly dum as you can get. Includes the predicable (Lynott, Christy, Sinead), the unusual (Mama's boys) and the lost through...

Returned from Houston this weekend. Whilst there I bought John Mayer's album - Room for Squares - on the strength of a video on VH1.Of late I had kind of given up on finding intelligent well-crafted pop music (for obvious reasons) and was...

We've all seen the recent overrated and previous underrated threads, and while the threads are all entertaining, how about listing some recordings that are well received by critics, hyped by the industry (at some point in time), receive awards, and...

OK, heres the way it is. Once upon a time I had a very narrow minded view on music, if it wasn't done by a 'proper' band with 'proper' instruments then I was having none of it. crap I would say, Crap.Well since the introduction of SBLs, then a better...

Finally got to pop my Rutles cherry and saw the film the other day. However, it raised an interesting question. Is Ricki Fataar, who plays the Harrisonesque character, the same Ricki Fataar who played drums on a couple of tracks on Crowded House's...

Alright ‘fess up. What are your favorites? And I do mean your favorites rather than a list of the “greatest’ symphonies ever written. I do expect a great deal of overlap, of course, but surely there are some not-so-great symphonies...

Anybody here own or listen to De La Soul? I'm curious about a couple of their recent releases--Mosaic Thump and Bionix. They're both also pre-titled--Art Official Intelligence. Are they any good? How would the instrumentals be?Markus

If you like any of the above I strongly recommend the new movie "Scratch" which I just saw last night. It is a documentary of sorts that traces the history of hip-hop, scratching, etc--interviews the first guy who ever did a scratch, early influencers...

Any recommendations on how to get rid of my old vinyl & earn a little money from it rather than just chucking it in the bin ? Ebay ? Take it to a shop (where?) ? Car boot ? Anyone here want to make an offer ? It's late 70s/early 80s punk/indie stuff - about 60-70 '45s and 20-30 LPs (e.g., buzzcocks, jam, ramones, smiths, cocteaus, you get the idea) Advice gratefully received.
