I had an interesting thought about what was the single worst song I own. After much soul searching and listening to various awful albums I plumped for Tom Waits singing 'I'll Take New York' from Frank's Wild Years. I love Tom, but this is virtually...

Two of Naim Jazz Records' hottest young bands, Sons Of Kemet and Kairos 4tet , have this week been shortlisted to win Jazz Ensemble of the Year at the UK's Parliamentary Jazz Awards , run by the All Party Parliamentary Jazz Appreciation Group (APPJAG) an awards ceremony that has become an increasingly important platform for deserving British jazz talent in lieu of a BBC Jazz Awards or Jazz FM Awards, and with the Mercury Prizes shortlist at the end of 2013 controversially forgoing any...
Dear forummembers, I could use some help with suggestions for a certain type of music I like. My interest goes to Woman Vocals especially in the genres of Folk, Jazz and Easy Listening. I try to follow some music magazines but this type of music...
Received in the post this morning the BBC radio production of the Hobbit from 1988 on cassette. Blimey takes me back and the pleasure of hearing it on cassette only adds to the enjoyment! Brilliant vocal performances that really capture the...
BRITISH BAG-HEADED PROG-PUNK-JAZZ QUARTET STRIKE WITH FOURTH OPUS "Get The Blessing's most strikingly original statement on disc so far" **** Jazzwise "the right balance between what once was and what now is" **** God Is In The TV "surrender yourself to noir soundscapes conjured by a combination of controlled eccentricity, tight execution and crafty production... irresistible" BBC Music Magazine Bassist Jim Barr once remarked that Get The Blessing were "total outsiders" and "the punk entry"...
Box sets, double vinyl, triple vinyl, deluxe CDs and more. Led Zeppelin, Led Zeppelin II and Led Zeppelin III reissued on 2 June 2014. Anyone else looking forward to these with trepidation knowing Page was involved with the remastering.
Other than their popular tracks I've not really listened to much by The Doors. qobuz are currently offering their first eight albums, 24 bit/96 kHz for €23.99. Thought I'd take a punt to add to my high res library. It was at number 8 on their download chart when I purchased it, it's now up to number 1. (I'm sure it wasn't all my doing!)
The postman has just delivered to me a big envelope from Salisbury, containing my copy of Gered Mankowitz's 50 years of rock and roll . It's the second time I win something in my life - the first time I bought a raffle ticket in Stanton St John while...
Over the years I’ve become accustomed to being disappointed with recordings of rock concerts and generally avoid buying them. I’ve found that they often suffer from one or more of (a) the loudness of the concert masking weaknesses in the performance which are all too obvious when the recording is played (b) the acoustics of the auditorium make the recording flat or distant and (c) the audience seems separate from the performance of the band so it all feels a bit contrived. There are...
Happy days! Managed to secure my Kate Bush tickets this morning for the 13 September at the Hammersmith Apollo. Kate Bush and Talking Heads were two acts I'd always regretted not seeing live. Hopefully it'll be a great...
OK, I know we all agree that the music comes first, but is anyone else a fan of Telarc's recordings? When the performance is right as well, which it often is, for my money there's little to beat them. Favourites are: The Dies Irae bass drum...
Just heard that Neil Young is to release the long await Ditch Trilogy + Zuma in an all analogue vinyl box set on Record Store Day. Even though I have the original release, which are my most prized LPs, I am really looking forward to this release as it contains some of my favourite albums from Neil and his previous release of his first 4 albums were of excellent quality. This limited edition box set includes the classic albums: Time Fades Away, On The Beach, Tonight's The Night and Zuma, each...
I'm looking to get any recommendations for good music magazines (in the UK) (or even on the web) that cover a wide selection of music / cd reviews. Most of them I've found tend to be very genre specific (classical, Jazz, Blues, etc). I've looked...
Is there anyone out there who's a fan and can shed some light on Steve Hopkins' ARA initiative?

Anyone see this last night? he was a bit before my time, guess always thought Tubular Bells wasn't my cup of tea. Think I changed my mind watching this last night. Great documentary on Mike Oldfield with a lot about Tubular Bells, followed by the live...
I need to buy a few record sleeves. I saw this anti-static sleeves but they seem quite expensive, around £22 for a pack of 50. I know some people here use paper polyligned sleeves and they cost half the price of the 102's. Are they really worth the extra cost? Thanks, Tony
In August, apparently. About 15 nights at Hammersmith Odeon. Tickets on sale next Friday. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-26679515

Scott Asheton, founding member and drummer for proto-punk band Iggy and the Stooges, has died aged 64. My dear friend Scott Asheton passed away last night. Scott was a great artist, I have never heard anyone play the drums with more meaning than Scott Asheton. He was like my brother. He and Ron have left a huge legacy to the world. The Asheton’s have always been and continue to be a second family to me. - Iggy Pop on Facebook
