Sometimes I like to sniff around on youtube for clips of music and sometimes I find something new I like that I have never heard of before - I found EST like that. Sometimes I search for a given favourite and note how many covers are available -...

http://bandcamp.com/ Found and downloaded the new Woodpigeon album here and discovered a music posting/purchasing website that seems to contain a huge amount of content that is easily listened to and covers various genres. Some rather homespun...

Background It is perhaps no surprise that my music collection has grown at a much faster rate since joining the Naim club last summer. Thanks to the Forum, Radio Paradise and Radio 2, 3 & Scotland , all supported by You Tube, I have really expanded my listening experience which has developed considerably: sometimes into areas that I am still surprised about, but have found very enjoyable. The Forum has also introduced me to suppliers other than Amazon such as Burning Shed and Bandcamp.

Steve Reich's new piece, Radio Rewrite, is being premièred this week by the London Sinfonietta, at the RFH on the 5th, followed by Birmingham Town Hall on the 6th, Brighton Dome on the 7th and Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall on the 9th. I only realised this yesterday, but amazingly there were still a few tickets for Brighton left. So on Thursday night Hilary and I will be there. I love Reich's music yet have never seen it played live, so I'm very excited. It's weird, at 52 looking forward to a...

Close To The Edge 24/192, also issued in 24/96 went live on HDTracks today. Possibly a spin-off of the shortly to be released Steve Hoffman remastered SACD. Information on this is scant. I have a lot of versions of this album including the posh (and often unsuccessful) efforts but obviously nothing in higher than 16bit definition. I think the 24/192 offer is some way ahead of my best lower resolution versions and I’m happy to stake the reputation of my ears on this. The detail, separation,...

There is music which seems to be able to take me beyond thought and beyond emotion. In fact, its as if it had the capacity to dissolve emotions and take me closer to what I experience as a truer Self. By which I mean a more innocent, deep Self-experience which seems to get exposed and strengthened (or maybe it would better to say re-manifests) when clouds of emotional content, temporary feelings, conditionings, habitual thought processes, identifications, masks, even of a euphoric nature, or...

I just finished listening the Chances with Wolves restream. This is a quite magnificent show, produced by East Village Radio, as zero1magazine put it: Unlike many radio shows, which race to play the newest releases, the weekly show occupies no specific time, genre, or marketed image. Their carefully chosen selection of rare music ranges from old soul, 90 ″ s hip hop, 50 ″ s throwback, t o things you can’t categorize, introducing and re-introducing artists and songs to their large underground...
