I went to their concert in Reading last night, never seen them before, a gripping performance, I highly recommend seeing them if you get the chance. I think they're in London (southbank) this afternoon at 12 and again at 3.
Hi all, I have been following the 'Which "blind" buy do you regret and which one not' thread, with some interest. Once again and not for the first time on this forum. Trout Mask Replica by Captain Beefheart split opinion, as to its...
For those who are more informed on the classical end of things: Is this a good recording of Elgar? And if you have other suggestions please let me know, and a short why it is the recording of choice.
I love this. It reminds me of my childhood, Graham.

BBC2 will be broadcasting a new feature-length doc on the great man in May. Working title is "Five Years". Below is the BBC publicity blurb: BBC2 is to broadcast a feature-length David Bowie profile in May. The programme has the working...
There's a new Conny Plank box set out this week called "Who's That Man?". Presented in a 4CD box with extensive booklet, featuring many unreleased tracks. CD1 and 2 features originals (where Conny was involved), CD3 is comprised of remixes of original songs (remixers include Walls, EYE from Boredoms, Kreidler, Automat, Einstürzende Neubauten, amongst others). CD4 is a previously unreleased live show featuring Conny Plank, Dieter MÖbius and Arno Steffen in Mexico 1986. Looks good, especially...
Has anybody any idea how long it is before reissued vinyl is deleted? Regards Graham
On thursday night Richard Starkey MBE will be playing in NZ for the first time since '64. Bringing the same members of the All Starr Band used on last year's North American tour; Greg Rollie from Santana, Steve Lukather from Toto, plus Todd Rundgren...
Tracey Thorn's new autobiography, Bedsit Disco Queen, has just been published, and very good it is too. It's very well written, and is totally unpretentious. I followed her career from the beginning, so there are some great memories for me of time at Uni and beyond in the 80s. How she managed to be in two bands and study at the same time is amazing, but she did. And the first solo album recorded in a shed for £167, playing with Paul Weller at the ICA, etc etc. Now, where did I put that...
The most mellow album he ever made--bar none.

Evening All It turns out a colleague of mine at work is a fellow music nut. We set ourselves the challenge over Xmas of putting together a memory stick each of music that sounded great on our respective Hifis and then spent a fabulous couple...
............ and it's £137.50 per ticket That's more than I paid for Elton John at Leeds and worse seats too. It's all getting out of control.
Probably no different to the most of you I have a "current pile" somewhere in the room and the rest of the CDs and vinyl stored in some shape or form to allow retrieval. I may fancy some Bowie and take down heroes as I did yesterday. I may see an...
Funny but kinda sad in a way. I bet there is a lot of *trueism* in this.
We have been watching the Howard Goodall music history programme. If I understand correctly equal temperament made a scale of 12equal logarithmic intervals. Was the previous system used on say piano, harpsichord or trumpet, so that they...

I greatly enjoyed the recent BBCR3 relay of Simon Rattle with the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment performing Mozart's symphonies 39,40 & 41. The performances were very accomplished with some fine playing as one would expect, but has the "authentic performance" become closer to modern instrument performances, or is it the other way round? At the start of the original instrument movement, many performances sounded truly radical, such as from Norrington, Hogwood, Pinnock...
If you like blues in the 1960's british blues boom style (Peter Green, John Mayall etc), this is a must hear disc. Earthy old stuff & some of his own material; devils on crossroads, bad whiskey & mean women. Its an easy listen compared to some in thisgenrethat can be hard work sometimes. This is easy on the ear & mind all the way & well able to play in all company. The last track Bronx Poem is his own work & a thought provoking religious bent...
Have to declare a vested interest - John who was the bass player in the Family Cat - is a good friend of mine, although I met him pretty much at the end of the band's career, as he ended up working with me in the wine trade. The Family Cat never...
