The BBC website is trailing a report on the future of the long player album.  The sales of the No. 1 album fell below 10,000 for the first time ever last month (apparently). Here's the link to the audio report: ...

A rare and lovely overture by Beethoven that is his "homage" to Handel [rather than Bach!], but which is far from being an occasional piece! Enjoy this. Not quite Beethoven as expected. I have loved this piece since the age of eleven, forty years ago, and just wanted to share it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...hsg&feature=fvsr ATB from George PS: You might get some horrid adverts first as seems the way with Youtube these days, but do persist. The Beethoven...

I listened to my "original" CD copy over the weekend for the first time in years (CDP 7 464422). Reminded my why its been years, it sounds horrible. I would appreciate your recommendations for the best, reasonably priced & reasonably available, version on CD or LP? I'm also willing to consider the USB green apple or the stereo or mono box set versions.

I have been looking forward to Huey Morgans solo project for ages. He is a big vinyl fan ,but i did not expect it to turn up on the Naim Label though. So it was good news to see it there just now on 180g quality vinyl and with the added bonus HD download code included in the £17.99 Pre-order for October release price. Also on CD . Having a listen now. I like what i am hearing. Not far off the good old F.L.C. Stu.

Just noticed this recent new issue 9 CD box-set on Amazon.uk... It looks very tempting for £16.38 [which can include free delivery too] This is WK's 1950 sonatas in mono, which many say is better played than his later cycle? Has anyone bought this set yet? Can anyone here recommend it? Your thoughts very much welcome, thank you! : ) Debs

Just been playing some old Doors stuff and realised what a great singer Jim Morrison was - strangely the more he drunk the better his voice became. Just wandered what others felt about the best Rock singers over the years. I guess I should throw a few in for starters. How about Davis Clayton Thomas from Blood Sweat and Tears ? Jess Roden - who took Morrisons place for a while in the Butts Band Paul Rogers Ozzy for Sabbath 1 A slightly more risqué suggestion - Colin Melloy of the Decemberists...

Cole Porter's Night and Day in a lovely performance by Aksel SchiØtz http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eJwenQ-N2YE This is a wonderful reminder that classical musiciians have been crossing over the genre bounds for a long time. Aksel SchiØtz was a great tenor from Denmark, whose primary musical style based itself round the Baroque and Classical styles from Buxtehude, and Dowland, through Bach, Handel, and Mozart and onto the German Art Songs of Schumann. I just thought it might be nice to share...
