Then try Karine Polwart: Traces. (i'm assuming that is not a stage name!) Much as I like Kate Rusby in modest doses I'm not a totally sold folkie; too many songs about maidens and bosky woods finally make my teeth grate. I have frequently...

Live tracks from a 1973 European Tour abandoned live album are now available via MP3/FLAC download. So far only priced in US dollars although I don't think that will be an issue. I've had a listen to the 30 second tasters for each of the tracks and...

Remastered on 180g vinyl by WaxTime. It just sounds divine on my Gyro SE/SuperNait/Sonus Faber Liuto setup!

Listening to the show using the NDS for the first time and they just happened to be on this week. One of the best ever Bob Harris shows.

Dear all Earlier this evening I was absolutely riveted by a Prom on BBC4 - the NYO were playing Messaien's TurangalÎla-Symphonie , a iece which features an enormous orchestra, many exotic percussion instruments and solo piano and Ondes Martenot . i would like to buy a recording of the piece (I'd never heard it before tonight) - does anyone have any recommendations? Thanks Kx

I am fan of E.S.T. and like their specific new approach to trio jazz. Any suggestions besides the obvious ones: Neil Cowley, Tritochomy, FM Trio ?

The death of Scott MacKenzie got me thinking what would be my 10 desert island discs. San Fransisco being one. Regards Graham.

If you liked the Diamond mine album by KC & JH ? Give this Kid Koala album a listen. Its on Spotify and the Ninja Tune site. Even you classical people might like it. It has the beauty of the above album and more but without any vocals. You can buy all formats ,The 10" vinyl is my fav,It comes with the download. Also if you buy get it from the Ninja tune site as its cheaper there than anywhere else. It a wonderful album imo. Stu.

Was listening to BBC London today when John Anthony Helliwell, sax player of Supertramp interviewed. Nice guy. He was plugging the forthcoming release of the Live in Paris DVD. It's released on 27 August and is available for preorder on Amazon for £11.69, as well as other sellers I'm sure. The original album of 1980 is good so the DVD is probably worth a punt unless you want to wait for it to be shown eventually on Sky Arts. Steve

Other forum members, like me, may be saddened to learn of the death of Lou Martin on 17 Aug 2012, aged 63. Lou was keyboard player (usually electric piano, occasionally organ) for Rory Gallagher during (arguably) Rory's greatest period, during the...

I recently re-read Ian MacDonald's excellent book on the Beatles' records, Revolution In The Head, while listening to the remasters. Though most of their songs feature contributions from all four members, the joint Lennon-McCartney songwriting...

Although Krister Henriksson is my favourite screen Wallander, Rolf LassgÅrd - Sweden's answer to Gerard Depardieu - makes a good, miserable, shambling job of the part. Enjoying an episode of 'The Fifth Woman' last Saturday evening, I heard some beautifully evocative female vocal music in the background. Using the magic of the 'Shazam' app and and a bit of inter-web paddling around, I identified the track as 'All My Tears' by Emmylou Harris (the song was written by Julie Miller). I've never...

Just turned the  telly  on and saw a bit of Yes and it reminded me how I always thought that, , even back in the 70's, there was a lot of well orchestrated noise and not much substance in their music.  Or was it just a...

In my workplace a colleague brings in his old tatty looking mini Hifi [a bit Lo-Fi actually] system, the makers name reads ’Ministory of Sound’ , ...fair enough, it works okay and with some volume too, although the speakers are imo very daftly postioned in the limited space available which causes unnecessary bass boom [I did try to offer my advise and experience with improved set up but being a girl in a boys toy world my opinion was completely ignored [obviously] but I’m not complaining cos...
