So...after an extensive listening session, I have to say some things... 1) The 2012 vinyl remaster is very good. Nice clarity, nice punch. In my ears a bit too "nice", too "polished". The instruments are nicely separated and the sound of the drums is fantastic. The soundstage is pretty big. The vinyl is very quiet and in an excellent condition upon arrival (I dont like the original cardbox-innersleeves, though). All-in-all a fantastic re-issue, if someone has no other pressings at hand... ,...

I have been listening to Melody Gardot for about six weeks. Does anyone who has this cd find the following:1. Her voice is so closley miked that the sibliance on most of the tracks renders them almost unlistenable.2. The general production is so...

Whilst watching  BBC 3's Classic Album programme on Black Sabbath Paranoia the other night, I started thinking about which modern album of the last few years if any could be called a "classic" in time,or if nothing in the last few years, what was...

In a moment of madness I bought Nikolaus Harnoncourt's RCA version of the above recorded in 2001.  I have listened to it a couple of times now and it is like wading through treacle.  It is so lifeless and pedestrian.  Allowing for the...

Just discovered the JPQ via the web. JP has a view of the music business that's similar to my own. Record companies are the past and the web with direct distribution is the future or more accurately it's now. He has made his own version of Nick Drake's Five Leaves Left. I'm a great admirer of ND's work and the vast majority of covers either fail to understand what ND was about or go too far off piste and ruin those beautiful songs. What I can say is that the quartet are quite superb. They...

For me it's Van Dyke Parks album Tokyo Rose. Musically it reminds me of a modern musical, and I hate modern musicals. The vocals are poor, but I must admit the lyrics are quite good.I usually play both sides, say to myself, "that was crap , I'm...
