Here is a film that may show to those who wonder what purpose a conductor serves, what a great conductor actually does do. In some ways, possibly far less than might be expected, but actually far more than might be dreamed...

Recently a friend brought me the famous [it used to be famous once] recording by Parisian forces, conducted by Nadia Boulanger [with Maurice Durufle playing the organ] of Faure's Requiem.   It struck me that this was possibly the most important recording of any music that I had ever had the privelege to encounter.   It got me fascinated with the power of the conductor, Mme. Boulanger:   Enjoy this film of her teaching ...  ...

I wonder if anyone is familiar with the above album and the track "I won't grow up" in particular? I have had this album on CD since it's release in the early nineties and on the above mentioned track at about 2:21 the marvelous Ms Jones whispers...

Is it me or is Through the night a really bad recording. It sounds like someone has put a sheepskin rug over my speakers. A real shame because she does have a wonderful voice from what I can make out.

As a lifelong follower of music (I'm the wrong side of 50!) I thought I had a reasonable understanding of the music industry. Wrong. Or may be out of date at best. I've had the opportunity today to become immersed with the promotion of a student...

Appeal to the forum of finding the best recorded cd by JLH. At the moment I think 'Boom boom', but having only 10 of his recordings on CD, clearly there must be a blues addict out there like myself, who has trawled through the lot. I love JLH so...

I am sure I will get at least some passionate rebuttals to what I am about to say, but I am interested in the responses both pro & con, and this is just my opinion, so that is all it is. It seems to me that the word "remix" can be defined as "we're going to take a tune and overdub it with a computer and just f*ck it up about as much as we possibly can. You may find it find it easier to dance to, but it will now be otherwise un-listenable." What say ye?

Anyone else got Joe Walsh's new album? He's singing about being an 'old-fashioned' analogue man. Nice to hear that JW hasn't lost his wit. What he has lost is his hearing - Jeff Lynn too; who co-produced it. If it wasn't so pitiful it would...
