Following the earlier 272 + 2549 + 300 < http://forums.naimaudio.com/to...300 discussion, kicked off by Huge, at last I got to experimenting with a home made 272 to 250 DIN to XLR cable constructed from Mogami W2534 Quad Microphone Cable. The screen was connected to 0v at the 272 source end and the 4 cores for L + 0v and R + 0v respectively which was physically tricky with so much on 0v. I wonder if it might have been theoretically better to connect the screen to the 4-pin DIN cable...

Borrowed some D2s. Expecting to be blown away. Versus my ProAc Studio 118 they are: - Deeper, tighter, chunkier in the bass. - A bit more open in the mids/top end. - Sharper treble but less extended. More restrained. - More restricted and restrained in the mids. Like they need a good shaking. - Much less expressive / less airey. Less exciting involving. Fully run in demo model. Disappointed! I didn't get on with PMC Twenty5.22 as they didn't seem to have much emotion. A bit functional...

After a long and tortuous sellling process we've managed to sell the house and despite there being extremely low stock levels with estate agents we've found a place to live. The accommodation lends itself to using a room for the stereo on its own. I think the seat for the listener is just as important as the rack for the boxes and in my case the stand for the speakers. Can anyone give there thoughts on their experiences of choosing a chair especially if there's anything to be avoided. I...

hello, i have the choice to upgrade , for the same total price, my interconnects cables ( between amp and preamp and preamp and nds) or my hp cables. The hp cables are apertura tiny ( a little better than naca 5 to my ears): i can go to kharma matrix reference or eventually naim superlumina. My 2 interconnects are chord signature tuned array: my dealer can take them back if i take chord sarum t ( for nds and between amp/ preamp). Which choice will give more upgrade in sound quality ? i can't...

How to connect these on a Atom (it's for 22 of august) thanks

Sorry but I have to post this. I just figured out that the standard Naim cables have been severely limiting the full potential of my system all this while - the 282/HCDR/250DR. I have posted my thoughts on the improvements with these cables on another forum (Chord Signature Tuned Aray full loom) and got accused of running an advertisement for Chord apart from a slew of negative comments and cynicism. Folks can say whatever they like though I have to say I am gobsmacked with the changes that...

Trying to decide if current production Focal Maestro Utopia (not the new Evo) or the Sopra 3's for my system. I have nap300dr amp, 555ps, 252 preamp, super cap, nds, and REL g1 mark 2 subs. I know the Maestro are better but are they worth more than double matched with my system.

Looks like I chose the wrong time to decide to buy a rp6!....none left in stock and the new planar 6 on the sleves in a week or 2. The new planar 6 has been designed around the aria mc cart, but I have learnt that my nait 3 is not the best when handling mc carts!. So should I buy the new planar 6 and put a good mm cart in and risk a poorly matched combo or try and find a second hand rp6 on the bay?....gulp! Clive

Hello Guys, I have got turntable, CD player and loudspeakers. I need new Naim power amplifier, pre-amplifier (could be integrated) and streaming. What would be the best configuration? I need to confess you, that I already have purchased NAP-250, N-272, StageLine and FlatCap XS, but now I see, that Naim dealer gave me a wrong advise. Streaming and amplification is perfect, but I am not able to connect turntable. I believe, exist simpler configuration to achieve my requirement.

TT as in Turntable not DAC! This is NOT a vinyl vs CD or digital vs analogue thread, nor is it a "my TT and/or its engineering is bigger/cleverer/more expensive than yours" thread. What I am seeking to explore here is characteristics of turntables, which includes what turntable is best - obviously to the individual and in the system(s) within which you have heard them. But to be meaningful it t is necessary to identify what each TT has been compared with, and importantly, what in the sound...

Did a bit of DIY over the weekend and made a few tweaks.... 1. Replaced 2 x normal mains sockets with 2 MK unswitched. NDX&SN2 in first socket and US alone in second socket(spurred off from the first prior to new sockets). 2. Rearranged stack, top to bottom: NDX, US,SN2. (Previously SN and US other way round). 3. Got all 3 network cables off the floor and out of sight(almost) with the Netgear GS10 switch on the wall to the right of mains sockers with the 3 cables dropping to trunking...

Was waiting for the wife in town and browsed one of the current hifi mags that has a review of the Naim power line lite. It gets a 5 star rating, and not just for Naim equipment, do check it out if you are interested in this upgrade to your mains cables.

Hi all, i've been reading with interest all the posts on here about signal grounding and I've realised that my system, being based around the Superline may have no signal ground connection to earth and therefore is 'floating' (all the naim boxes are obviously all earthed correctly though). I'm running a Townshend Rock II turntable with Heed Orbit2 power supply into super-capped Superline with burndy, a 72, hicap and 250. power cabling for the naim boxes all using a Grahams hydra. Since, as I...

My CDX has been giving an intermittent problem for a while now and I'm wondering what's causing it and if it's an easy fix. When loading some CD's I get a "fart" noise and the track counter remains as 2 lines. If I press play, it farts again and the track counter shows Errr. This doesn't happen with all CD's and doesn't seem to matter if they are brand new or not. This morning I had a brand new version of Imagine arrive and it won't play but an old copy of Madam Butterfly plays perfectly. I...

Three months ago I got the Kudos S20A for a home demo, and they are great but can't really compete a big speaker. Two weeks ago I got the 707 for a home demo, in order to replace my old ProAc 3.8 ... and I can't decide ! The Kudos sound extremely beautiful - instruments are much more natural, but it sounds like an expensive hi fi system while the ProAc sound much more "in your room", with a lush sense of presence. Rest of the system: 552, 500, NDS. Maybe it's the break-in period? Should I...

I know...minefield right! I'm shortly going to purchase a rb3 tt and have been advised that a mm cart would work best with my nait 3. My budget is £300. My speakers are ipl st3 kit made, which are really lovely transmission line floor standers (8 ohm) Many thanks Clive

Hi all, just wanted to get some input regarding DAVE and how it compares to NDS (with 2*555PS) if any of you have that? My NDS is probably + 4 years now (maybe 5?) and "could be" kind of the weak link for now (guessing here). Not really in an upgrade mood, more curious...(and that's how it normally starts :-)...) //Jonas

Hello, I might have an interesting option on PMC twenty 23 speakers. I've read most topics about these speakers, but still curious for more info. Compared to my current GB1i the 23 should be more open, more detail(hope not too much sharpness), more bass control(less boomy), bigger and wider sound stage, better mids. I'm doubting though if the difference will be enough for the investment. Also if I would like the sound character of the 23(more natural, less forgiving maybe), but this is...

Hi, I have managed to source a pair of Maple SL2s in excellent condition which I will take delivery of next week and will run with my N272, XPS and 250DR. I have been reading numerous extremely helpful posts on the forum around set up and considerations; like, critically, the need for a solid wall to site them against. I am very excited about the SL2s but I must confess I am slightly apprehensive about the challenge of setting them up. Richard's set up instructions are very thorough and I'm...

Does anyone think that it is possible for Naim to produce a streamer/pre-amp without internal power supply, approaching the level of a 552 pre-amp and NDS streamer/DAC given some of the newer technology?

I have an old CB 62/90 combination that has been gathering dust for a few years. My son is getting into hifi and it could be better than the sorts of single box solutions that he can afford. My only concern is the NAP90 which sounded pretty ropey when I last tested it. The question is whether it should be serviced. The 90 was never a classic Naim unit and when I asked about servicing it a few years ago, one well known company flatly refused to touch it. If a service makes no sense then I...

555CD/552/300 I have a hum on all inputs which my dealer informs me is due to an earth problem. Unplugging the interconnect between the 555CD and 552 resolves the problem but means I can't play music obviously . To be fair, my dealer has tried really hard to fix it but without joy. So far we have tried the following: Different interconnects (several!) Running a long extension cable from different electrical sockets. An electrician with HiFi experience checking the supply. Substituting the CD...
