hello, I am certainly not the only one to have a hot temperature since yesterday in my listening room: around 29 degrees c or 84 F. Few years before i had a problem with a nap 200 when it was very hot ( 38c) outside, and it also damaged my speakers. All was new, my dealer accepted the guarantee and the nap 200 and speakers were repaired. But i fear today to have the same problems. So i shut off all my components. My cisco, on rubber feets and with air around, ventilates twice a day also. Is...
Hi all, First post here. You may ask why I want to do this, let me try to explain. I have a LDR passive pre(amp) on order. I recently purchased Harbeth SHL5 speakers, non-plus version. They are 8 ohms, 86db. Passives are good but hard to match with most amps. For example Naim amps are all 18K ohms and not a good match. However, from what I see Nait XS is 130mv 47K ohms which may work. My DAC's output level is over 2.5V. I heard the Naim with Harbeths before at a dealer and it was a nice...
Will the ...star have FM reception option, since I have seen this on the back panel picture?
Hi! First of all, I enjoy my current set up which is CDS3, 52, 250 (Olive), Nat 02 and homemade speakers using Scanspeak drivers. If I was to move up to a 300 NAP what would or could I expect in the context of my system, applause or derision, a raised eye brow perhaps? I do not want to waste my time and energies or that of my dealer chasing after a solution that is best left alone. Cheers in advance for any thoughts. Steve2
I've started a new topic as the old Hugo 2 topic was closed. After over three months of waiting my new Chord Hugo 2 arrived today. I thought I'd post my inital thoughts here as I know a few people around here are interested in Hugo 2. On unboxing the packaging feels like it hides a premium and special product, very well designed. When do you ever get Duracell Ultra batteries included with a remote?! Even the instructions are soft touch material. Very well thought out and quality first. It's...
I've recently replaced the 202 with a 282 to my system, (powered by HiCap DR and of course NAPSC) It's feeding an active setup: - Snaxo/HiCap (olive) - 2xNAP200 (recently serviced) - SBLs (recent replacement tweeters) Sources are: - Rega RP6 / Audiomods arm/Ortofon 2M Black /Graham Slee Reflex M phono stage. - CD5/Flatcap2 - Audiolab MDac I'm happy with the RP6, but suspect that at some point the Audiolab gets chopped out for another DAC (probably one of the Naims- second hand). I don't...
Two days ago i installed a new S. Lumina (555- 552) considering all the praise it received since its launch, i feel pretty underwhelmed. I' m well aware of the run in issue but. Direct comparison with the old one showed more organic and refined presentation but it also seems more laid back especially in the mid/ mid/high. Definetely switching back to Hi Line it seems there is a better PRAT more forward and " Out of the box voices", more "Live presentation" and less hi fi, altough Hi line has...
Good morning. Firstly... Great running system: HDX (2 Tb); nDAC; 555PS; 252; SC DR; 300 DR into Monitor Audio Platinum 200s; all Powerlined. Now, the PL200s require 100 W and the 300 DR only pumps out 90 W. The sound is great, but these are speakers suited for biwiring. (Some tracks appear to show this.) Yes I've read opinion on passive biwiring, but these speakers are designed for it. Would adding a 250.2 non DR and biamping passively with the 300 DR work? (The 500 and the 552 are NOT...
Hello all, I've found that according to my listening experience, that matching the HiCap with the CD3.5 gives a much larger soundstage improvement (huge depth improvement) over the FlatCap comparing it to what it does for the Stageline. Why? When I switch between HC and FC on the Stageline, I don't hear the same level of improvement as I do with the CD3.5. I've settled on the following Hicap--CD3.5 Flatcap--Stageline--RegaP3 Make sense? I was quite surprised at the improvement the HiCap made...
hi all, after bit of advice on where to get replacement fuse for naim kit as my xps dr fuse blew earlier this evening which scared the bejeesus out of me replaced fuse with the spare you get in the carrier but wonder where to get replacement or is it a standard fuse (didn't look like any old bog standard fuse) advice appreciated as as usual guys mat
In a moment of reflection on this year's upgrade, I've been playing around with the figures which reveal: Source (N272 + 555PS) 34% Amp (250DR). 12% Speakers (ProAc K6). 40% Cables, rack etc. 14% Not sure how this compares with conventional wisdom (or indeed if it matters), but thought it might be interesting to compare with other members. I definitely belong to the 'speakers really matter' camp, provided there exists a source with whose quality is good and amplification capable of...
Hello All I have a problem with electrical drop outs (AND I'M NOT EVEN STREAMING!!) Am I the only one with this problem on here? Kit: SN2, 2Qute (using Arcam CD192 as transport) and PMC GB1i speakers Cables: TQ Blue digital cable from CD to 2Qute; Van Den Hul 102D III interconnect from 2Qute to SN2 TQ Black(II) speaker cable Playing a cd with the TQ digital cable I get a brief drop out whenever switching on/off any electrical equipment (heating thermostat, lights, (un)/plugging other...
A friend is interested in buying my Uniti2 which would give me the opportunity to get the new Naim Nova (SU replacement I believe). Anyone actually heard the new Nova, or any others in the revised Uniti range? Trying to decide if I take the upgrade jump - any thoughts out there?
Anyone go ?

I have been enjoying my system very much and have been making small steps upgrading. I was wondering what people think of what I am thinking. Current setup SN2, Focal Aria 936, NACa5, CD5si, Nd5sx, rega rp3, stage line. I use all different sources pretty evenly. Was thinking adding a Hugo 2qute, or changing the Nd5sx for an NDX. And another option was changing the CD5si for a used Cdx2. Though I wish I could make huge steps at a time I can't afford them. Though I enjoy my system I would like...
Hi, Contemplating about those speakers (S/H) and I wonder if there is a personally close experience with any of the forum members? i'll be glad to read... Currently I own the Sl2 for about 9 years. I heard them in Munich 2017 show and I really impressed! Regards,
About 6 weeks ago, my CDS2 started to act up. It took a holiday at the Plurison spa in Montreal, and came back today. In it's place, I was using a Rega Apollo-r, which was more than fine. I got used to the sound over time, and even contemplated selling the CDS2 once it came home. Not any more. All it took was the opening few notes on Paul Chambers' excellent Bass on Top cd for me to realize just how much I was missing my CDS2. The music now has a richness, depth, and drama that the little...
Hi I have just got my NDS (yipee!)...... and I will be installing soon. I propose to connect it to my 555ps. I notice that the burndies are marked with white stripes from the factory.... one has 2 and the other 1. Using logic does this apply to 'socket 1 and socket 2' as sockets are illustrated on the rear in the manual? Also at which end are stripes to go ..... near the NDS or near the 555ps..... can anyone advise (ie are they directional).
All, Worth a mention to anyone with an NDX(or perhaps other streamer/HDX) and a SN2(Or maybe other Naim amps/pre's).... Are you using the CD input on your amp? If so, try the tuner input instead(I'm aware the manual says use HHD input). After advice from my dealer whilst discussing how poor my kit sounded, I made the switch and much to my surprise it was miles better instantly. Something to do with Naim amps having the CD input attenuated as CD players have a bigger output voltage? Might...
Hi , Contemplating an upgrade from NAP135 to NAP500 or NAP500DR. How are the amps compared to each other? What improvements should we get going from NAP135 to NAP500 or NAP500DR? Preamp will be NAC52 for the time being. Looking forward for your comments and experiences. David
I need a CD player and I would appreciate some advice from the wiser community. I have an all olive Naim system' 250, 72, a hicap and SBL's. I'm considering either a secondhand CDX or a CD5X. Whilst the CDX would look at home in my present set-up, I'm not averse aesthetically to the CD5X. Any thoughts gratefully considered.
Hi just a quickie. I have an original XS and Flatcap. I believe I can add a power amp to boost this combo'. Anyone gone down this route? And was it worthwhile in your opinion? Many thanks
Getting a muddy and shut in sound from the above NA523/3 MM Boards.. Have been advised by Tom Tom that there are two wires to cut one on each channel of the main board...This they say will restore the sound to its glory..I have never heard of this ..?? Could someone advise with a diagram as i will sort this out myself .. I am a fully trained panel engineer and have the skills necessary.. Thanks
