Hi All. Having recently replaced my ageing Intro 2's with some Focal Aria 926's, I have a pair of very capable speakers lusting to be used in the office room. In said office, is an iMac that could be used as a source but an AppleTV is not out of the question either. The question, what inexpensive amp would give an enjoyable sound ? I currently have a Uniti2 + NAP100 in the main room. Very musical and I enjoy listening for hours with it. Many thanks for your suggestions. Matthew
I am deciding whether to take the plunge and get one of the TQ speakers cables to go with my SN and Dynaudio speakers. TQ cables seem to get a lot of love on this forum. The options are (price ascending): 1. TQ Black (much discussed on this forum) 2. TQ Silver (not much info) - there is a newer version as well which is called Silver II 3. TQ Ultra Blue (it appears to be a rebadged Green) 4. TQ Ultra Black The main issue for me is the length. Does the Naim recommendation regarding the minimum...
I'm playing CD's this afternoon and something was nagging/a bit off. I remade the Super Lumina CD interconnect at both ends a few times, but (I think), more importantly, did the Powerline IEC wiggle, which I have found to be efficacious in the past. The plugs seem to get hung-up/stiff in their sockets over time, losing decoupling properties. So I give 'em a wiggle, and the same with the 13 amp plugs on t'other ends in my Music Works distribution block which is equipped with wobbly sockets.
It can't just be me, can it, when I sometimes look at the twin stacks of black boxes and wonder "what if"? I know several folks on here have decided that a simpler two box system has a certain appeal, so I'd like to hear from you all as to whether you've had any pangs of regret since rationalising things. I'm thinking of a 272, and retaining my 300DR, and one of the 555 power supplies, hence a four box setup. It's an itch that needs to be scratched, so I may as well pester my dealer next...
As above given my system whats the limiting factor ndx source or pmc gb1i speakers?
I'm just wondering whether there are any 272 users who use them "naked", i.e. they haven't added an XPS (or XP5 I guess). Many nice things have been said about the pre-amp / streamer, but I wonder if it's a great £3.5k product, or just a component of a great £7k product?
Dear all, I got a Supernait. And I got an old B&O turntable 4002 (1975). I want to make sure I do this right and hook up an old B&O player with my SN. They are both Din standard but I believe I need a phono preamp to make this work? I dont want to spent too much money on the preamp - so, I go none Naim. I will need to use AUX 2 as port on SN? Convert B&O Din to 'Phono plug' cable -> Phono pre amp -> convert to Din cable to SN/AUX 2? Did I miss anything? What kind of result...
Hello All My set up is as follows; PC as source ( music converted using apple lossless) => Audio Alchemy DAC => Rose RV-23S Valve/Transistor Pre-amplifier => NAIM NAP90 Power Amp (Chrome Bumper model) => Speaker cable Audioquest FLX -SLiP 14/4 ( 2.5M) => B&W DM 602 speakers I've been using this "Frankenstein" set up for years and it sounds amazing. However it all started going horribly wrong, I would be listening and one channel would suddenly generate a hum. when I mean...
Well i have gone for the FRAIM, it was close between the Fraim or updgrade to new 250DR or XPS DR for NDX - dealer going to install at the end of March Son is going to have my Quadshire stands, so he can finally get his first deck - he is at Uni at the moment so not home much Hope it brings a lot to the system - NDX, 282, HCDR, 200 & LP12, lot of comments say "like having another black box" will post photos and comments another part of the jouney, piggy bank empty but 250DR is next!
Hello everyone, this is my first posting here. I was mulling over buying the Superuniti for a while now but the price was well out of budget. I was just hoping to sign up with a streaming company and stream music with the unitiqute originally but then I thought what the heck might as well buy the higher end model for better quality music and hold on. Now the entire uniti range has been updated. Does this mean the Superuniti has been discontinued? Would that then mean the price would drop and...
Hi everyone, I'm pretty new to the forums. Please can I get some advice, I currently have the Pmc above, they sound great, the highs and midrange are lovely, but I have this feeling that I am missing something in the sound. I was hoping the sound would be a full hearty type of sound but seems quite midrange, sorry can't quite describe it properly, the bass is very good at low volumes, but not very controlled if I turn the volume above 50, the stands are filled around halfway. I sit around...
My loved Nait 5i ( mark 1) is now 12 years old, I think it still sounds good but maybe its time to recap it? I have got a price from class a for the service: 189 GBP Now to my question: What is the smartest thing to do? Option 1: Recap it Option 2: Sell it and try to find a second hand Nait 5si Option3: Do nothing
Just wanted to share my experience with Chord Mojo. There is a Billy Idol album I am listening to BFI Live - the CD is not available, only on Vinyl and on Tidal. And for the first time ever in my life, I am quite annoyed that the CD will not be available, and I can only buy the Vinyl. I am really enjoying this album on my Chord Mojo DAC in my car and office (Naim don't make any portable machines - will they someday?), - but the point is, Chord Mojo really makes music so enjoyable that I...
Hi, currently having a demo of a Super Lumina interconnect with a view to replacing my HiLine cable. Thus far, although I can hear that the sound from the SuperLumina has a smoother and fuller presentation the emotional involvement is virtually zero by comparison to the humble HiLine. When the dear old HiLine is in place the sound is thinner and more bright (for want of a better description) but the musical involvement and emotional communication is great. I have read a lot about the...
This is one of those topics that could have gone on any of the Fora on here, possibly I should have put it in the graveyard that is the Padded Cell. But I think it is worthy of at least a cursory thought. I used to spend most of my time on here trawlling through the HiFi forum on the look out for the next super upgrade, tweak, cable, or whatever was going to give me the biggest bump in SQ. And with careful consideration, a home demo and often a hearty slug of cash the next SQ fix was...
Appeeciate the consensus on subject combo, but does it make any appreciable differerce at lower sound levels or just apparent at aggressive listening volumes? Peter
I am hoping someone can help me in my ignorance on electrical matters. I have a SN2 connected to a Chord 2Qute (with Arcam cd player as transport). Speakers are PMC GB1i's. From time to time, I get glitchy interruption, a brief drop out in the sound when I am listening to my system. These happen when someone plugs/unplugs something into the mains but these also happen at other times too (when the central heating switches itself on or off possibly). The house is only 10 years old so wiring...
ok, so the title says it all... would like to gather any experience or knowledge from the forum re having 2 NAP 500s (non DR) being used as 2 monos vs having a single nap 500 DR, driving DBLs. What sounds best or what are the sonic differences ? The first option would have the latent advantage (or disadvantage.... depends how you see it - financially) to put you in queue for the 3 x Nap 500 active setup. Feedback most welcome and Happy Easter !
Granted I may have used my existing cart until it was too long in the tooth. However, I finally took the plunge and upgraded to the Linn Krystal. Man is it an incredible cartridge... I don't think my LP-12 has ever sounded better. The detail, the overall control is just excellent.
I recently listened to a Linn Klimax streamer /preamp and compared it to a Naim Nac 272 streamer/preamp with a 555PS and the Linn was significantly better. My question is how does Linn produce a product thats a streamer/preamp and power supply all together in 1 thin box that is that much better than the Naim product with a separate power supply. Why can't Naim achieve the same? What am I missing?
There are a number of people who have 'downsized' or are considering doing so, the venerable peckish pisces comes to mind, and no doubt a multitude of reasons apply, from moving to a smaller home with less space, to a new partner and pressure to declutter, to financial crisis, to dissatisfaction with being on a constant upgrade path, to just a sudden urge for no apparent reason, and no doubt other reasons. Ignoring having to do so under severe financial pressure and need to realise capital,...
Hi all I have a basic XS system CD5, XS2 with Flatcap XS feeding both pieces of kit all connected to unswitched sockets on a dedicated supply, I have acquired a single Powerline and wondered what the general consensus of opinion is on what bow would benefit most ( and hopefully give the greatest sonic improvement) with the addition of a Powerline ? I know the usual response would be try it on all and see for your self but I struggle connecting up kit due to a disability and thought I'd seek...
A new one tonight. Sounds like Japanese!! I only usually suffer from breakthrough in the late evening and then it's usually east european so Radio Tokyo is a bit of a novelty.
Hi al. ok just tried to use my naim CD player and when I go to spin a disc I get the message err displayed. i have tried other CDs but all give the same message. Anyone on here have any ideas ever please. Thanks as allways Graham
I switch from my 200s to 272 based system pretty fast with many upgrades A friend of mine who is a ndx user with some expensive Italian valve amp came to listen new setup for the first time He liked the sound very much, day and night vs 200s with nd5 / sonus faber cremona m bookshelf - was his impression Then we got talking about the power supply his ndx or not Then we got the idea to disconnect 555ps from 272 and used it bare, to assess the effect of power supply on 272 Oh my God! Stage...
