My beloved DBL bass drivers need repair -- the foam surround at the edge of the cone is going sticky as it breaks up, and has already torn in a few places. I understand that Naim dont stock the drivers any more. However, they are made by the good people at ATC outside Cirencester. I emailed them -- they recommended a full recone at the factory which costs 125 pounds plus one hour of labour at 30 pounds. Plus you need a set of transit boxes (these are very big and heavy drivers!) which cost...
Tidy, crisp amp. Sounds small though. Must say I expected a lot more considering the hyperbole on this site. Overall, disappointed. Too small and cultured to quality as a great Naim amp ( see.. 250, 135, Nait 2 and original Nait 5i as good examples) Lots of amplifiers have lower noise floor, better specs etc. But Naims rock don't they? More music, less bullshit reviewer hifi speak.. This one is ok at best. Unless you've heard a really good Naim amp...
In terms of a "next step" - Would I get more impact by upgrading a Superline with a HiCap DR (going into a SuperNait2) OR upgrading the SN2 with a HiCap, and still powering the Superline via the SN2? I realise that the HiCap powering the Superline would only impact the sound of the vinyl; so the gist being, does the SN2 sound just fine without a HiCap? From reviews and other opinions, I've no doubt the Superline would definitely sound better being powered from a HiCap - but wasn't sure if I...
Recently I received a s/h NDAC to replace the V1 in my main kit. Input: MBP+ Audirvana + USB + Gustard U12 + optical into optical spdif 1. Output :Hiline RCA/Din into 252's aux1 as recommended. First thing I did was to update FW because the Ndac wasn't playing DSD files. Update was done easily. Ndac working fine the way described. Q1: Now I'm trying to use the front USB input. I insert the USB device and the dock button indicator in the front panel gets illuminated but nothing happens. I...
next week I get delivery of a cds3 , why because I enjoy my cd collection, I enjoy having a physical collection. pairing with 250dr,282 audio physics I'm looking forward to the next few years knowing naim can still service and replace transport If required, however this is in a music room and my nose is twitching slightly, I have nothing in my livingroom it's more of a relax zone but I'm looking to maybe add a muso.. small step into streaming and or hard drive. your thoughts wise or not, I...
Hello, I own 252/SC2/300 - XPS2/CDS3 - Sonus Faber Guarneri Homage. Soon I will upgrade and service my 300 (2006) to 300DR My question is: Should I also upgrade my SC2 (2009) to SCDR in this system? Is this also a big improvement or waste of money? Who can advise me? Thanks! Kind Regards, Olivier
Just got a 282, apart from the NAPSC, I have it powered by a single HiCap DR. I have a powerline for the HiCap. Would it make much difference to add a powerline (or even a poweline lite when they become available) to the NAPSC? Thanks everyone!
Hi , everyone This is my first questions in naim forums here : I have : NAP250+ NAC282 + 2* HICAP DR + Prefix + LP12 (Troika , Ecos , Lingo) And plant to add a "SuperCap" , now it is several choice more : #1.NAC282 power with 2 HICAP DR , Prefix power by NAC282, Directly . #2.NAC282 power with 1 HICAP DR , Prefix Power with 1 HICAP DR , use the 4pin to 5pin Connector. #3.NAC282 power with 2 HICAP DR , Prefix Power with SuperCap , use the 4pin to 5pin Connector. #4. NAC282 power with Supercap...
I wanted to ask the owners of an SU but the question is for everybody: to zero volume or mute I feel a very slight hiss from the speakers, impossible to hear normally but only if I put my ear very very close to the speaker. When the unit is ON should be normal because the electric current generates noise: my question is with Naim's philosophy of leaving always on 24/7 ,this micro noise could stress the speakers? Regards
I have read that wax potting stops transformer hum, and should not have an impact on it's performance. Can anyone answer this for me please, Cheers
Many here in the Forum point to the importance of good rack support -- and I fear my current box-standard Alphason AV rack is not ideal... The layout of our lounge won't really allow a dedicated hifi rack. So the Naim gear will continue to "share" the rack with a TV. (I know this might not be ideal....) When putting two Naim boxes on one AV rack shelf, I wonder about the minimum or ideal distance between the boxes in this scenario. Are just a few centimetres fine? Essentially, this question...
Hi All, lots of mixed reports on this. Positive reports that you get much of the Hugo performance at a sensible price. The downside is a minor pfaff on connections. There are subjective reports on it sounding cold and analytical, but others call it detailed, warm and musical. I am trying to get a demo, but it is proving tough (in Switzerland). I am wondering how it might compare to my Beresford Caiman II, but doubt anybody else can provide feedback on that.
I am wondering if, as a temporary stop-gap, I can use an old latching-style DIN connector for the tape out on my Nait 2 in the locking-style DIN for the tape out on my Nait XS2. In other words, can you safely plug a latching DIN into a locking DIN socket. I have ordered a locking DIN but in the meantime I want to know if I can use the old one. Basically I just want to confirm I won't damage any of the pins. I wasn't able to find a specific reference to this via search, but apologies if it...
I'm getting a s/h NAC 252 from a dealer next week to go with my NAP 300, CDX2, Neat Ultimatums and SL interconnect and speaker cables. It's replacing a 282. I've noticed that the manual says; Note: For best performance the Burndy and 5 pin DIN cables should be run as close together as possible. To those of you with the 252 or the 552 as the cabling advice applies to both, how have you got the cables to run close? I'm guessing they might not do this without a light twist or some other means...
I mean the Allae, SL2, and Ovator, all of which have the plinth suspension, to help optimise performance. When recently unplugging NACA5 cable from my Allaes, and noting the usual stiffness, it suddenly occurred to me to ask whether NACA5 could be interfering with the suspension. Thinking, could it be similar to the effect on an LP12 suspension of an arm cable that isn’t correctly dressed? I won’t be losing any sleep over this, and I’m not looking to stir anything up, but the question...
Hello Folks, I am new. Don't kill me. This is my first foray into hi-fi. I dig it. A whole new world. That said, I have recently acquired a system: NAC172, NAP150, Totem Forrest Sigs (87db). My concern is that I don't have enough power for my speakers. I like to get loud. I have played in bands for 20yrs and I have great hearing (virtually no hearing loss; I get tested every 5yrs or so). I am comfortable playing music high volumes. 50wpc on 87db speakers.... I could be asking for trouble...
I am currently having PMC's Twenty5.23 at home -- to possibly replace my Neat SX1. The speakers are driven by my humble XS2 and I have an ND5XS as source. About the PMC I like in particular the greater transparency as compared to the SX1. This is especially noticeable when listening to complex, orchestral music -- lovely. However, this transparaceny seems to come at a price. There appears to be a trade-off between transparency and body. My wife in particular feels that the PMCs don't quite...
Hi all, I've recently replaced a PV1 subwoofer which was connected to SN2 via high level connection. New sub is a PV1D which was purchased so I could use the SN2 sub outputs and remove any potential issues caused by connecting to the speakers. Could anyone please tell me what the SN2 sub out voltage is as I can adjust the PV1D sensitivity to suit? Is it 1V or 2V? I'm having a hard time getting the new sub to integrate which is not helped by the amount of bloody settings I now have at my...
How can we distinguish a white NAC A4 from a white NAC A5? Somebody sold me a pair of white cables printed in black "naim audio" plus a direction arrow on the side (and not between the cables) as used NAC A5. Did the A4 ever had the printed marks on the side? Thanks once again for the help :)
Hi Everybody, I know that a kind of subject that circling around but without a definite answer. So I owned a uniqute v1 192/24 (not the 2) that feed high-res flac files via streaming to LS50. I like the little machine and the great sound, for the price it is perfect, specially if you buy it used. Now I need your help to narrow my upgrade path I would like your advice and if your been down that road please tell me what did you do. so has suspect and I know some of them are ridiculous : A )...
Hello, I am new to the forum, although I have been reading and enjoying the interesting posts as a non-member for the last 18-24 months. I currently have (date of purchase in brackets): LP12 (1985) with Lingo 1, Aro, Lyra Cartridge CDX2 (2008) NAC82 (1993) NAP250 (1993) Hi-Cap (1993) SBL (1996). The system is on Isoblue supports and I have been very happy with this system. The 82, 250 and Hi-Cap are all due for a service but, before I go ahead, I have been giving some serious thought to the...
Popped into a dealer today to discuss speaker cable upgrade but ended up discussing the N272. He suggested replacing my ndac, 202, napsc and HiCap DR for a 272. Of course I'm going to do a home comparison but I can't quite believe a bare 272 will be an upgrade. FYI, my source is a unitiserve connected to dac via dc1, 200 non dr into PMC twenty.24 speakers. i know everyone will suggest xps dr and 250 dr but these can only follow when funds allow. I'm most interested in comments about the bare...
Hi We are doing a kitchen extension this year and I'm planning on using a Uniti Atom as a source. Initially I was planning on using a pair of glorious Usher's on stands with it, but wall mounting is a more sensible option and the Ushers aren't suitable for this. The room is large so would benefit from 2 pairs of speakers. I'm now looking at either Neat Iota's or PMC DB1's on wall brackets. I know there's obvious downsides to using 2 pairs of speakers from a sound quality point of view, but...
I am currently considering upgrading my 152 / 155 with a used 202 / 200 / Hi-cap. My concern is that they are over 10 years old and although working now,may require servicing in the near future. Can anyone give me a rough cost of servicing so I can evaluate whether this is a good deal or not? If not I will hold off and wait for a newer set or save even longer for new. Thanks.
I own a SL 2 for over 10 years now and wondered if als a loudspeaker need some kind of recap or maintenance ? My whole set is going to be shipped to Naim for the Dr upgrade. I will have a replacement amp in the meantime and didn t want to send the speakers for a check. I though was wondering if the crossovers need a kind of recap after some periode as well ? Any thoughts would be appreachiated.
