Happy New Year to all, I hope this year finds you enjoying your systims (ah, the memories of the forum and some of its' members) and listening to more music instead of upgrading. So Ron (Toolsie) and I had been discussing the virtues of cryo-treated cables . I was going to audition these in Q1 2017 but then Ron discovered a place that performed this service very close to me. Turns out they actually had quite a bit of experience with audio gear as well so knew exactly what I was doing. At...
My son-in-law's NAC52 has stopped working. No lights visible in it or the 52PS, so I assume the most likely cause is a blown fuse. Just tried to find the manual for this on-line without success. Looked at the manual for the supercap to see if that helped - it didn't. Where is the fuse located? IIRC, there should be a spare in a holder next to the original fuse. If not, what sort of fuse should he get?
I am installing, or rather the electrician, a dedicated mains cable from the consumer unit to the point where my Naim gear will be located (new build house). Do I aim for a double un-switched socket (grateful for thoughts on which make) and then use a quality extension cable to connect my NDX, SN2, HICAP DR, NDac (may upgrade again soon - more boxes and of course PLs) or opt for a greater number of individual wall sockets and if so how many? I want to get this right before the electrician...
Chaps, I have a pair on home demo. Over the next week or so I'll report some findings. First very early impressions - reavealing in the right kind of way and appear to inttegrate very well into the room. More to come. Regards, Lindsay
Had to make do in the olden days when money was short. Lots of hand me downs of big hulking vhs and Betamax recorders. Plus the odd Hi-Fi in a big cardboard box job. one I inherited was an Alba big cardboard box job with equally cardboardy speakers. Even with a long time dedicated to adjusting the three band equaliser a good sound never emanated. in more recent times truth be told I have not really come into ownership of anything truely bad, wether that's down to quality of production going...
Given the 135's have had a recent naim service and the whole kit was the same other than amps (Blanced)Also the end user has space for the 2x135's etc. I'm not talking VFM either, who's the better amplification. cheers
Since my CDX2 has gone in anticipation of a Core and an as yet unselected DAC or streamer (the 555ps is still handy in case of need) I'm slumming it with a DVD5 until said Core turns up. I'm quite pleasantly surprised at how good it sounds Powerlined and Hilined on the bottom shelf of my brawn stack and feeding a 500DR system, even with the Hiline touching the carpet. Its pace is rolling rather than rocking which suits the folk and chamber music I've played on it so far. Thinking back to...
Good morning, I am due to have at AT33/PMG cartridge fitted next week. Currently I am using S boards for my Denon DL103R, but I will invite suggestions as to whether this is appropriate for the Audio Technica? Regards John
I've decided to add a little something extra to my humble setup: Linn Sondek LP12, Ekos, ESC’d Troika, Naim Stageline , Naim Nait XS-2 , NAC-5, Naim Allae I have been debating between a FlatCap XS and a NAP 155 XS. Obviously the FlatCap will help improve both the XS-2 and the Stageline, but does anyone have an experience having tried both?
Specifically, can I use an olive XPS with the nDac? Apologies if this has been discussed elsewhere.
Well the story goes: Whilst inebriated, i bought a Naim Nait 5 My logic at the time was to have some small stand-mounted speakers or bookshelf speakers in my small listening room (Pre-acoustically treated, 5m x 5m) so i would be able to proof my own music and enjoy some classical / electro music in my free time I don't have a CD player and am looking to purchase a used Naim CD player, budget around 400-500 pounds I don't have speakers yet, budget around 400-800 pounds, used are fine and...
Hi all, I seem to be having trouble with my NAC N272. It's connected to the mains using a Powerline cable + a link plug. Each time I turn on the pre-amp, the following message appears: Two PSUs Unplug. Wait 10 mins. Pressing the buttons won't help. Looking forward to any advice on this.
Just sitting here listening to The Grateful Dead and Supertramp. Two bands I've heard probably hundreds of times in my life on the radio, other stereos etc and was ho hum about. Now they just make more musical sense and are much more enjoyable.
Hello everyone I'm new to this forum and very likely new to Naim Audio very soon. I'm planning to buy new speakers. These will probably be 804 D3 from B&W. I've already consulted a local dealer that also distributes Naim products. I'm not quite sure what'd be the best start into high end hi-fi. As most of my music currently is stored on a HDD I think the new Uniti system would be nice. I alternate between staring with an Uniti Star or an Uniti Atom both combined with my existing external...
New year resolutions tend to be with reference to curbing ones excesss'... But I have decided, to NOT Curb my upgrade spending habits in the new year. So my new year resolution is to purchase two new racks and possibly upgrade my speaker cables.... So what might be your new year hifi resolutions?
quick one.. I'm looking to upgrade up the ladder currently using cdx2-xps2 /282/200 best vfm I'm thinking either cds3 or 250.2 what would be beneficial.. most prominently cd use
Having sold my HiFi (Naim for 25 years) a while back, I borrowed a Muso from my dealer over Christmas. The sound has been mediocre at best, with a shut in and boxy sound, however, I kept telling myself to persevere. Well, it is still the same, and in addition it started to play itself quite loudly this morning, causing me to run downstairs to try and turn the damn thing off. I used to get a similar thing happen to my Qute. Is this a fault (and yes I've checked the alarm function is off) or...
Has anyone used a Spectral stand with NAIM gear, any photos of the set up?
Hi all, I am planning to purchase a all-in -system. At the moment the Naim Uniti2 is the system I'm looking at. It covers all my needs, mostly play Cd's and listen to the radio. With it being DAB and also able to connect to I phones, pads etc and bluehtooth is an added bonus. I currently have a Sony separates system which to its credit has lasted very well, i have only had to replace the CD player in 20 years!! Has anybody on here got a Uniti2 and if so would you recommend it? The speakers I...
Finally finished messing about with the study system, following purchase of SimRak stands from Cymbiosis. Have also fitted the Tiger Paw Vulcan in there, so my LP12 is back in action. I'll miss the Active System in the living room, but bits have gone to a good home (SBLs and 52/52PS to my son-in-law). The CDS and Nakamichi CR7 are boxed up and waiting for me to decide what to do with them. SWMBO after grumbling about the disruption, is just happy to have much more space in there! I've...
I'm looking into the possibilities of upgrading my poweramp, and a new 250DR or s/h 300 with DR upgrade are both possible. The intent is to get more clarity to the system along with better musical insight and cleaner timing (i.e. a little bit more PRaT). However the most important thing is to deliver good sound at lower listening volumes (mostly 70dB to 80 dB average signal), and here I have no information on the relative merits of the two amplifiers. I'm currently running the poweramp...
I would be grateful if somebody could advise me on the right amp /pre- amp/ speaker cable combination. I am a novice as far as hifi systems are concerned and for the last 15 years, I have had an AV receiver with a surround system and recently, having gifted this to a friend, I was on the lookout for a replacement. I have been reading about Naim products and I would like advice to build my system. My starting budget is around 8K. I would like to start with a power amp. Either NAP 250 DR or...
As my system has developed, I have the brain side on the left Fraim stack, topped by a turntable motor, and the brawn side on the right Fraim stack, topped by my Verdier turntable. Immediately below the turntable on the right stack is the Superline, with the Supercap DR directly below it. On which edge of the rack should I put the half-width Superline? Now it is on the left side close to the brain side. Which is the preferred side for the Superline? Given the flow of the cables, it needs to...
Reading the latest Signals newsletter I was particularly interested in the following, in their piece about the new Uniti range: "The term 'new platform' has been used and this, coupled with the change of aesthetic to the Statement and Mu-so white light / big knob approach has led many to assume that the much loved green logo 'Classic' series is on it's [sic] way out. "Nothing, we are now assured, could be further from the truth. Classic Series, the electronic Lego, that it is for many, is...
Hi Guys I've recently added an AV2 / Nait 5 and B&W CM5 to my tv. All fine and nice, but the speakercable is 2x10 meters Linn K20. Since the speakers are 20 cm next to the tv, it means that there are currently ugly grey cables all over the place. Now, Naim recommends at least 3.5 m length speakercable. Since I currently have only cables which are 10 meter or longer (also have 2x 12 meter cable), I cant test short cables. The question: is on the level of Nait 5 also a 3.5 meter cable...
