Here we go. After listening to Naim and other hifi over the last 20 years, in conclusion the main indication of is your system sounding rite. The better you are able to understand vocals the better the sound, for years you thought you understood the words and meaning, then when you improve your system, gee I never really understood not until you here it, you don't realise what you were missing. In conclusion IF you can understand the vocals all else will follow music wise. I await your...

I thought it would be good to create a special post for covering experiences of people during demos, workshops and shows. I had this morning a great workshop and will in two weeks again visit a show, so I assume this could be a great post to exchange thoughts. And I will start below with my experiences from my lunch time workshop.....

Hi All, I'm completely new to Naim, but so far I have been really impressed with the quality of sound and of the build also. Thing is I'd really like to increase the low level baseline of its output so I've brought a Dali E12F active sub, which I plan to use the pre-amp outputs to connect it to the star. Firstly I'm told this is the right way to do it? But is it and is there a better way? Secondly with this being pre-amp does this mean the output is constant and therefore won't move up or...

Hi folks, I'm looking for some advice. I'm currently running a Naim Atom, my Thorens 165 TT that I got as a teenager for analog and my pair of Totem Mites. It's a very listenable system, but I'm wanting to fill in the frequencies that the Mites ignore and provide greater detail, sound stage and presence. I've auditioned many speakers from Sonus Faber, lots of Kefs, Paradigms. They all had something to recommend them, but the speakers that met my upgrades desires AND were the most fun and...

I have just purchased a lightly used and immaculate Hi-Cap DR to try with my SN2, I've also purchased a SNAIC 4 pin cable for it I just have a question about connections from the Hi-Cap to the SN2 as I've never used an external power supply before and am a little nervous about it ; ) I've looked in the SN2 manual and it would seem the connections I will need are: Socket 3 from the Hi-Cap into Upgrades/Power Amp 'In' on the SN2 using the SNAIC 4 pin Socket 4 from the Hi-Cap into Upgrades/Pre...

I am using Focus 160s on a 282/250.2 combination. It sounds great, but upgradeitis is itching. I am a Dynaudio fan, not decrying the other brands that are often partnered with Naim, but you can go mad trying to audition them all. Thus, rightly or wrongly, I am going to look at either a Contour 20 or Special 40. I will audition myself, but I do like to hear what others think. It might give me some extra areas to evaluate in the audition. I like standmounts in my medium sized room. I have...

hi all, Is there such thing as a CD5x recap service available?

For those interested Audio show east is Nov 2nd and 3 rd which is only a few weeks away if those that live outside of the east Anglia want and need to plan a trip. I am sure Richard and Signals will post something pretty soon, but those interested can look at the Signals site for the latest exhibitors. I thoroughly enjoyed it last year...others who have been to the big events are better able to compare. And it’s free....voluntary charity contribution last year. Anyway, more for those who...

Well I've gone and done it and today I received my 6 year old 555DR PSU and it's in mint condition, a big thanks to my wife who allowed this expensive purchase and have sworn not to buy anything else for 5 years. The weight of this thing compared to the XP5XS and after removing the 555 from the top of the XP5XS it looks thinner As we all know the 555 doesn't come with a burndy so I'm keeping the S-XPS burndy that was supplied with XP5XS plus its run in. Few months ago I borrowed an XPSDR...

Hi Guys, I wonder if you could help, I have a black gloss speaker which has a very small nick in the gloss. Do you know if this is repairable?

Gutted, I had a small pile of papers fall from bookshelf on to my hifi and has left a small but noticable scratches in the olive facia. It's on my supercap which seem to be hard to find these days. Is there any way I can repair the scratch Paul

Tried a dealer demo of ProAc Tablette 10s using Cambridge Audio electronics (no Naim available). Overall I think I preferred the Tablettes to the larger / pricier ProAc DB1s, albeit in their smallish demo room. My concern is whether the Tablettes will perform in my medium-sized room (6m x 5m x 2.4m) via N272 & 250 DR. I don't need huge volume (apartment block, neighbours etc.) but I'm also aware that their typical habitat is a somewhat smaller space. My current speakers (Acoustic Energy...

Was just wondering if anyone was planning to attend. Also will any naim be displayed. I know dynaudio and harbeth (which I have) will be there, both of some interest to me. It's hard for me to plan in advance,so I'm not sure about attending.

I'm finally in a really good place with my Qute. I have been bouncing around with this system for over 3 years, swapping speakers, external dacs and external amps. I have finally arrived at a good place. I get lots of enjoyment every day with my system. Basically I am running the Qute with a pair of Dali Zensor 3. I literally have "better" speakers parked in the basement because they are not as fun as this combo. Here is the crazy part, I am really happy with everything except my low...

As mentioned in a previous post I'm putting together a chrome bumper active system. I have: - NAC 62 (Green LED), - HiCap x 2 (one red, one green LED), - NAXO2 (Red LED), - NAP 250x2 (Green lamps) From the serial numbers for the LED products, these were all made between 1985 and 1987. The 1987 products (NAC62, HiCap) had Green LEDs, the 1985/86 (NAXO2, HiCap) have red LEDs. I must admit that the LED colour particularly on the NAXO2 is going to trouble me... Less so on the HiCap because it's...

OH is away for a couple of days, I've grown frustrated at the audio being relegated to the smaller room where it works but doesn't have space so whilst there's an opportunity it's all gone back into the living room. And all the bass has disappeared. Seriously. Clarity & soundstage is awesome, but the oomph and the drive has all but gone. What have I done? Please tell me that carrying speakers at an angle doesn't cause them both to fail simultaneously and disastrously... Was looking...

Chaps, I took delivery of a new car this Monday which came with a Harman Kardon system albeit not that i specified. I loaded several CDs which okay not bad but I then switched to FM and Radio 3. Absolutely superb. Did a 21/5 hour journey to East Anglia today, quite the most enjoyable journey in a long long time. I understand it will play WAV so will get a memory stick and try a couple of tracks. Regards, Lindsay

I just looked at the Naim website, and it appears to be a new look, with everything broken down into categories under “products” As the title says,I no longer see the N272 listed.Could this mean the N372 is on its way soon? You can still find it if you google its name, then click on their website, but it seems to be no longer listed in any category. What happened here, did I miss an announcement? ok I just found it if you scroll down further under streamers, sorry for the confusing post.

Hello to all three of you ;) My set consists of CD5XS, NAC152XS, FCXS and NAP155XS. Yesterday I added a used Naim i-Supply. This powers upgrade 1 on the NAC. My FCXS now powers upgrade 2, in the conventional manner by linking pre with power, as well as the CD player which it has always powered. The i-Supply is the Stageline variant. I consider it to be a great vfm upgrade. Neither another FCXS nor a HC, and another shelf of Isoblue were in the frame, financially. Very pleased, and just...

Hi. Yes it's me again, I have moved my speakers, slightly further away from listening position and wider apart, spend a lot of time making sure they were EXACTLY level which took a,while to do, what a difference well worth the effort, a massive improvement. Steve ,

Good evening, I have a doubt related to the mains cable for the power supply unit. Considered that this external device converts and splits the alternate voltage to the continuous ones, for what it worth to spend money in expensive mains cable?. Naim supplies with each power supply unit a common "computer style cable", quite cheap. Many owners suggest to upgrade the mains cable for expensive ones. I am confused. Someone could explain me where is the truth , please? Cheers

I've gone through a big system overhaul in the past couple of months including an upgrade to a XS2. The CD5si is feeding in to the amp with the SNAIC cable that came with the CD player but my turntable (Michell Syncro, Rega RB808, Dynavector 20X2L) is feeding in to a Rega Aria phono stage that is in turn connected to the XS2 via a pair of Audioquest Red River RCA cables. These are high quality cables so will I gain much (or anything) by swapping them out for a RCA -> DIN cable? If so...
