Hi-Fi Corner

Hi Guys, Just wanted to share my experience with installing a dedicated mains for my HiFi set :-) It consists out of Furutech wall socket (FP-SWS-G), Pink Faun Power Cable 3x 5,3 mm2 and Siemens Sitor Fuse with 10x38 gold fuse from HiFi-tuning. It took not that much trouble to install it, as my Fuse box is just on the other side of the wall of my living. The only big challenge was to drill a hole in my 40 cm thick wall, but all went well. The Pink Faun cable is a tough cable to handle, but I...

After much delay, ( spent most of summer upgrading the house , selling and buying property is a stressful business). So now have a dedicated hi-fi room, and so decided to finally treat myself to the opportunity of owning a brand new Xpsdr. After listening to so many forum members singing it's praises , and having listened a couple of times at dealers and Bristol show, both times suitably impressed, I am thinking next stage is to hear xpsdr on ones own system in ones own home. Box arrived...

I wonder if someone has an opinion of the musical quality a CD5XS brings related to ND5-XS with addition of XP5-XS using TIDAL at the highest quality level. Current set up is a Nait XS and ND5-XS streamer without the XP5 XS, and a stageline powered by the Nait XS. I wouldn't listen to CD that much more if the combination of the ND5 XS with the XP5 XS is (near) equivalent to the CD5 . I'd rather go for the XP5-XS. I only have a small amount of CD on ECM that I would miss. Or would I benefit...

Dear Forum I'm currently thinking about buying a new NAC 202 (savings are almost there), to replace my old and trusty 112x. Just a couple of questions if anyone can help, being: Does anyone know where the 202 is in it's product cycle? I have a knack of buying electronic goods just as 'new and improved' models are launched, and would prefer to avoid this again if possible. I know some will say that it's a good pre-amp, and as long as you're happy with the sound, etc, then you'll be happy, but...

Dear Forum This isn't a very interesting post, as I can't afford a Powerline or any other sort of exotica. All I was wondering is whether it's possible to buy the standard Naim power cable somewhere? I've searched the internet and don't seem to be able to find them anywhere, and can't see them on Naim's website. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Nigel

Looking to buy a 1986 Nait 1, just wanted to know if this will drive my PMC Twenty.21s. Thanks in advance.

How do they rate against each other? It has been suggested to me that I consider a 202 instead of an 82. Your thoughts would be most welcome.

Perhaps this is a question for Richard Dane or one of the team back at Salisbury unless any body else out there can answer it: I am due for a demo and home loan of SL speaker cables (2 x 7 metres) and SL IC cable to connect my nDAC to the NAC252 on Wednesday but I would like to know what is actually inside the 'blocks' at each end of the speaker cables and what do they actually contribute. Are there electrical components encased within which could fail in time and potentially render the...

I am very happy with my N272 - and I have ripped all my CD to a NAS drive. However I still want to have the ability to play CDs in it's 'native' form ... so I am looking for some insight and experience as to what other members have found... Is is better to have a CD transport from the likes of Cyrus or Simaudio and use the on-board DAC in the n272 or will I get a better sound using the analogue out from a CD player such as a CDX2 or CD5XS... or what about the option of a CD5XS acting as a...

A lot has been said regarding the Lingo detrimental effect when used with Naim olive kit. In the past I've used a Lingo 1 when they first come out with my then 32.5/HiCap/250 chrome bumper which according to Darran at Class A, had no mains filter in the IEC socket. Actually it's this first type of sockets he uses these days if you want one changed while servicing. To tell you the truth, I didn't notice any sound degradation then which only comes to show that Darran is right. I'm now getting...

hi all, for me ist is bot possible that no cable touches another. Can you tell me, which cable should not touch another and which one must nötig touch another cable? I have noticed that the "plopp " when pressing the mute button is sometimes louder and that depends on cabling. System is in the profile. Thanks, Christoph

My Naim 202/200 has a discernable hiss when powered up, even with no input. I added a PSU (not Naim but well regarded) and the noise floor reduced noticeably. It has been suggested that using a standard 6 gang surge suppressor mains block is another reason why I can still hear hiss. Perhaps, but it could easily be generated in the amplifier due to any number of tolerance or component ageing issues. I see that there are some hifi quality mains blocks around. Snake oil or worth my money?

After a long wait of nearly 3 month I finally received my NAC552 and NAP300.DR , eager to set it up and see what a difference it will make over my existing NAC282/NAP250.DR setup... Now, I noticed that the NAC552 PSU comes with the DR logo on the back, however the NAP300 PSU does not have the DR logo (the NAP 300 itself does, but the PSU unit does not mention DR either on the packaging or on the back of the unit). the PSU is newly manufactured in 2016 so my guess is it should be with the...

I upgraded from a SuperNait (1) w/HiCapDR to NAC282/HiCapDR and NAP250.2 (very low usage 2013 models). The improvement in grip, soundstage and PRAT is substantial and jaw dropping. I'm now curious to try the 282 without the HiCapDR for comparison, as I went to straight to the 282 w/HiCapDR, since I was already using the HiCapDR on my SN. It almost seems like the boogie factor is a bit too far over the top for my setup. Other details - I've been running in the new gear for nearly 6 weeks. -...

I promised an update on my new 250DR and (2nd) Krystal; so here are my thoughts after 3 to 4 weeks of the 250DR and around a dozen albums with the Krystal (without bending the stylus!). 250DR: More of everything - staging, depth, bass, detail, tone and subtlety. I don't go for wow or jaw-dropping, I am more of a smiling man and I have been smiling a lot lately :) I can play albums louder; I used to find the UnitiServ a little harsh when volume was turned up and this is still there a little,...

Does this idea have merit? Anybody done this? I have a nice CR-3A, and haven't bought the 4RCA<>DIN lead yet. I suppose I'd want the port installed to be wobbly, Naim-style. Nick

Hi, I want to know the damping factor of Nait XS1/2. Does anyone would letting me know about it? Around 100 ? Around 200? less than 100? Best Regards, Kazu

Has Naim any intention of producing a pre amp with a moving coil phono stage . I have a cdx 2 and xps 2 but prefer my lp 12

Hi, I have a 2000 Nac 52 arriving in the next few weeks. I'm told it has some "K" phono boards installed . To tell you the truth I have no idea what that means. I've got an end game idea to travel the vinyl journey, however at the present time its step by step. So would it be an upgrade to remove these boards as I did with my nac 82? Or because of the nature of the burndy/SC power supply it will not be an issues. While I've got your attention these K boards can they compare to a seperate box...

Hi, I am back into HiFi after a long gap. I have raided second hand stores etc and have a set up that I consider to be pretty decent. The heart of the system is a Naim 202/200 combination into Dynaudio Focus 160 speakers via NAC A5 cables and perched on some natty hardwood speaker stands that have brought a surprising amount of neutrality. My suspicion is that the sources are a bit weak. I am purely digital, with no intention to go back to vinyl. I could stream, but don't. I have a SSD...

I am curious about the time frame for recapping a Snaxo 362? It has been used for only around 9-10 years despite being older and sounds great. all my Nap 250s that have been recapped exhibited obvious signs[ running very hot or degraded sound] leading to servicing. Will the Snaxo show signs like the amps did? I do not want to commit until I have to since it is very costly[ $1000]. Anyone had experience that can offer insights? Thanks

Hi .... I was wondering the following .... a cd player ie cd555 has an output well above the 775mw required for full output......to power amp say nap300 or 500.... so what is the preamp doing.... it seems to me that it is actually working as a posh attenuator..... Also as there is another buffer amp circuit it must have some influence on sound ...... if you look in the box it is stuffed full of components .... My own experience using a really good Ben Duncan passive controller was a...
