Must ask this, as I appreciate my earphones more now as I thought I lost them: AKG 1000i... but like other expensive earphones, they have a volume control on the cable to alter iPhone, a device far inferior to the earphone capabilities... Leading me to ask. How do they put a volume control on expensive earphones (£1000)? Surely that diminishes the sound quality? Or is the voltage control separate to the cable, like the music signal doesn't pass through it? Perplexing as they are supposed to...

Hi all, I'm not a frequent poster here, but I do keep an eye on what's going on. The last major change to my system was SBL to S400, and I have been fairly settled with the sound over the last couple of years. Recently though, I have started looking for more... Let's say more of everything but in particular, more prat, clarity, more agility and outright extension in the bass. I've done all I can with room treatment and mains. 552 is a little out of my scope financially. Of course I will seek...

I'll preface this by saying my two young children (girl, 4 and boy, 7) have been nothing more than stellar about the stereo, better than most roommates I've had. That is until a couple of nights ago. Suddenly from the next room came a resounding crash, and there was my four year old with a Kef Ls50 face down on her foot, still blue tacked to the heavy, cast iron, sand filled stand. Fortunately the bowl of yogurt that was in her hand stopped the fall, and not the totality of her foot or other...

Hi I have 2 x 4 Fraim shelves and would like to place the following boxes on them: NDS - 555PS - 252 - Supercap - 300 - 300PS I suppose the PS on the right Fraim, but in which order? It's also important if it's possible that the IC and Burndies are not touching the floor.

Yesterday I had the absolute pleasure of system shopping. The Nagra HD dac $30k into a solution 530 amplifier $55k and the new Magico s5 MK2 speakers $38k a pair. I listened to some classical, vocal, jazz, dance ALT J, James Blake, etc etc. The room was very well treated and everything was racked - cables were analysis plus oval 8's The streamer was the Aurender N10 8k The highs were so sweet and delicate. The music hung in the air effortlessly before me - the Nagra HD dac has extremely good...

I live in Bangalore with not much opportunity to do demos of Naim and Kef - the nearest Kef is 40 km away, and the nearest Naim dealer is in Mumbai - about a 1000 km away. I have had the Naim Nait 5si for about 10 days now driving my B&W 704 front speakers, and the sound has been getting better by the day for jazz, vocals, INDIAN classical music, though a tad weak for rock music. I ordered a pair of Kef LS50s from the UK, and they are in their way. I have read some reviews that they...

Hello, I am an excited parent of soon to be delivered Naim Nait 5si. My current set up is below. Should I pair the Naim with the B&W 704s, or should I look for new speakers? I have an ecelectic taste in music - jazz, rock, blues, classical - western and Indian, and everything else in-between. Don't want to spend too much - circa 600 dollars would be the target. Is there a budget option suitable for the Nait? Setup: Mac Mini with Audinirvana software and Arcam rDac B&W - 704 fronts,...

Hi all, My system is a RP6, Uniti2, SCM11v2 and NACA5 The speakers while good at low levels are a bit lacking in the bass department- everything else is there, it's just that I'd like a bit more bass presence for a more balanced sound. On the other end of the scale, pushing the volume past 60% on the U2, the SCM11s start to lose resolution. This kind of volume is above my usual listening level, but you know how it is: when you hear a good tune, you just wanna turn it up! Speakers are about...

I have a SU with a power-line which I have just put out for sale and instead I intend to buy a SN2 + a chord DAC (probably a 2qute) and I wonder if I should keep the power-line for the SN2? I have heard that the power-line will be mostly efficient with the scource and not do much for the amplification. Has anyone tried this with the SN2 and is there a significant sq-improvement?

I've been trying a lot of products out lately. DACs, servers, amps etc. I had some mains hum (light) with my Chord 2Qute / TP 12/2. Or at least I thought I did. I finally realised tonight that the iMac, if plugged in to a socket or adapter socket preceeding any other piece of equipment picks up random radio statios (wifi off) and sends this signal through to the dac/amp/speakers. I could hear classic FM! I don't even listen to it! Bonkers. So i switched the iMac to the the second socket,...

I'm having so much fun with this whilst the latest incarnation of my LP12 is being built. Naim CDS up top, Nait 2 (Olive) in the middle, MKI Kans on the end. What a hoot!! It makes such a huge sound, you have all the detail, super fast dynamics, it's very hard to stay still and stop grinning. So musically engaging I just want to play more. And they do do bass!

A bit of an unusual question maybe; I have a nac 12 v 2 with din-connection to the internal RIAA-input. As I have my old lp12 with a new silver rca t-cable connected through a Milty rca-din adaptor I wonder if there is any way to connect the earth to the amp, sine it seems from the sound that it needs grounding. I also have an olive armageddon connected to the lp12. The 12 goes to a excelent recapped 160 into SBL mk2 was the question understandable? WOuld be really grateful if anybody could...

I've got a couple of 5pin DIN to 5pin DIN Naim interconnects, one is labeled NA03, the other NA0054 The NA03 was supplied with my CD5x, the NA0043 came with a second hand NDX Anyone know much about them?

Hi folks, Kindly advise which of the following combination will sound better in terms of musicality namely: a) UnitiServe (SSD) + DAC V1 + UnitiQute 2 b)Uniti 1 The main purpose is to listen CD and internet radio. Cheers, Patrick

i am shortly to embrace a pre loved NAC 552 which is great news. I have a question on LP12 connectivity. My current set up is an LP12/Ittok/Adikt playing into my trusty NAC 52. It seems from my research on the Forum that I can get a Stageline n and power it off the 552 (not optimal), later adding Hi Cap etc. Am I really limiting myself by staying with MM cartridge? or is there another Phono stage worth getting for MM cartridge?

I have been on the NAP 250 DR for several months now and just recently swapped the NAP 200 back into the system which consists of the NAC 282 and Hicap DR. To reconfirm on my thoughts I reinserted the NAP 250 DR back into the system and listened again. Much have been said earlier on the NAP 250 DR but I need to share this again. I cannot find the superlatives to describe the differences between the NAP 250 DR and the NAP 200. What I can say is the NAP 250 DR brings more realism in the music...

If anybody wants a decent alternative to the Hugo/Qute that seemingly works well with Naim, I'd recommend the Eastern Electrics MiniMax DAC Supreme (Long name!). Out of the box it sounds superb. Toe tappy, full, rich, natural, engaging, evenly balanced. It's probably the most natural and even keeled DAC i've heard so far after the hugo (Dislaimer: see below). I've listened to: DAC V1 (Nice but not fluid enough for me) 2Qute (Shouty with TP PSU and SMPS) Classe Sigma 2200i (Bland / cool...

The question is, would a superline be wasted on a rega RP6/Ortojon 2M blue, have read many forums but this question has not been answered. Vinyl is my second format so spending an arm and leg on trying to beat CD is not an option, I just want the Naim sound qualities without having the amp volume knob at the midday position to get a decent sound level. Hence the question, superline, matched cartridge loading and flexibility of the Naim upgrade path.

Hi does any of our forum members have experience of this ? im specifically looking for something from the 52ps to snaxo Supercap ( I believe I'm correct in thinking this cable takes all the music from preamp to snaxo) for the same reasons I'm discounting the idea of any elaborate din cable between 52 & ps ( I believe I'm correct in thinking this is for the digital section only) eventually I will aim for chord sig TA & sig ref all round, just wondering if this is a worthwhile interim...

Hello All, Does anyone know if Naim have an advanced solution (beyond 5 pin SNAIC cable) for connecting one of their preamps to a HC? Specifically, say between the 282 and HCDR? I have an 82/HCDR and am curious what users of the 282/HCDR/250DR camp are using between the first two boxes. Much has been posted about the benefits of SL in the classic range, so I assume there are a few who are using 282/SNAIC/HCDR/SL (Din to XLR)/250DR. Curious if Naim are working on a solution on the weak link...

I thought iT would be good to keep a discussion going on mobile hifi als we are all often on the road and can't always enjoy our favorite black boxes. So the latest shot has again come from Sony with a flagship player at a pricepoint of 3300 euros, but designed purely with audio quality in mind. I can't wait to see the first listening tests coming in. Now imagine you would couple this with the Shure KSE1500 and you would be up with 6000 euros on mobile hifi......
