I'd like an upgrade for my CD5XS and indeed all models which incorporated a new internal DAC and the like. Kinda like a hardware replacement we got with the amp dr upgrade.
I look at a site on Facebook called High End Audio for the Passionates which is audio porn basically. Anyhow, I just stumbled across a new Chord combo which is the HugoTT and below it a matching sized amp called the TToby ? It is very smart, no specs though.
Saw a pre-loved Dynaudio C1 at rather good price, I still love my ProAc D15 after having a major upgrade, but just wondering if my SN+Hicap is capable of driving the C1, maybe I should get that pair to try some different taste. Thank you for any comment and advise in advance.
Hi together, I bought a NAC 82, built in 2000! Will use it with a newer black NAPSC, Could i also use 2 newer HiCap models for the NAC 82? And or does an Olive Supercap sounds better than with HiCap's? Because its one of the latest models, is there an upgrade which makes sense available? Thanks Alex
In every thread there will be a post telling the OP they have to demo to decide for themselves ... but how do you demo? I'm not looking for advice on components but asking how would you undertake a demo. My thoughts are: * home demo is only for the final confirmation (or not) because we can't do A/B comparisons (well I can't anyway). * perhaps have an initial demo of lots of kit to try and narrow down the stuff I am interested in ... might get on the dealer's nerves though. * For a serious...
I can't help noticing the most common tip when people discuss SQ is to install a dedicated mains radial circuit and the larger the cable the better, preferably 10mm shower cable. At the moment I have four unswitched MK double sockets running as a spur. My question is how do people get such large diameter cable to fit into a standard socket or is it possible to buy more accommodating sockets. I have done a search and nothing pops up. Thanks in advance. Mike
Hi all, building a system with my soon-to-be-acquired SuperUniti/Motive SX2s: any thoughts on how playing CDs on a CD transport like the Cambridge CXC via digital input would compare with say, the Naim CD5si which would only connect via the analog inputs on my SuperUniti? I guess I'm thinking at £300 the CXC would be a good starter CD player until I can afford to aim higher, unless I'd get much more of the Naim musicality with the CD5si? Thanks for any advice.
I did do a search but didn't come across a thread with this setup: Fraim (base, 1x 264mm shelf, 2x 115mm shelf) NAIT XS2, FlatCap XS, ND5XS, Rega TT What would the recommended stack order be? From what I have gleaned from what I have read, I am guessing: 115mm shelf: Rega TT 115mm shelf: FlatCap XS 264mm shelf: NAIT XS2 Base: ND5XS But...perhaps the wise on the forum would suggest otherwise?
Hi all, I've been jumping through hoops lately trying to solve system harshness, forwardness. Digitalness. I've finally found the answer in the Chord Hugo. Replacing my 2Qute which has been the culprit. I found the Dac V1 also more pleasing in my systen than the 2Qute. Smoother and more synergy with my amp. Proac 118 > XS2 > Chord Hugo (Chord Shawline RCA connected from Hugo to XS2) Hugo is much more analogue and musical sounding than all though. An order will soon be placed. Now, I...
Hi@all! I just want to share my happiness with this "marriage made in heaven". I love what this combination does...superb. I let the headphones play through an entire night (about 10hrs) and the sound is just exactly right for my taste. Fantastic.
I have three pieces of used kit out in the market which should net me about $6K, and as my rule is hifi money stays in hifi (isn't yours?) the question is what to do with it that will make the biggest improvement to my system, which is: TT: Dr. Feickert Woodpecker w/ Kuzma 4-Point tonearm, EMT TSD-15 cartridge into Stageline. Digital: CD5 si player; NAS, UnitiServe, ND5 xs streamer (coming) into nDAC + XPS. FM: Magnum Dynalab. Amplification: 282 + HCDR, NAP 200 w/ Powerline, into Davone...
It is not my intention to try a different (aftermarket) power cord on the HCDR. I have recently bought a Chord power Chord to be used with a power strip. For some reasons the power strip purchase did not materialise. Hence I tried the Chord power cord on my Krell CD player for a very brief period. Differences were marginal, almost negligible. I then tried the Chord power cord on the HCDR, replacing the stock power cord. I heard a difference. Just to be sure, I swapped between the Naim stock...
Hi to all, I am planning to move my Superuniti to a more confortable location. It will move away from the tv and I would like to use an IR extender. According to the manual: "Remote in and out sockets ca be used for RC5 remote control via a wired connection or a remote IR repeater." Anyone used a "IR receiver cable" like, for example, this: using that Naim "remote in" plug? ...Javi
Just upgrade CD5X from CD5i after plugging them to an Isotek Polaris for the first time. so excited with the huge improvement, thinking if adding Hicap or supercap would make further improvement to the system or an upgrade of the speaker would do more to the naim system. Thank you for any opinion.
I'm currently running 252/SC-DR/NDX/XPS-DR into a non-DR NAP300. I'm considering spending £1495 on the DR upgrade for the NAP300. Question is whether this is the best place to spend the money or whether it would be better spent on the front end or possibly accessories e.g. Powerlines. Your thoughts please.
Hi again, everyone. So yeah, I'm stuck in upgrade hell again. Current system is Nac N-172 XS - Nap100 - Focal Aria 906 (which will, most likely, be upgraded in a few months with PMC DB1 Gold - getting them for home audition tomorrow, to see how they fare in my room). I just upgraded from the UQ2 today after a home dem with a Supernait 1 and the Nac N172 XS. I liked what the Nac was doing more then the SN. So yeah, I splashed out. Now today, just out of curiosity, I borrowed a Nap155XS to...
I just got back from holiday last weekend, turned my systems on. Apparently it was everything fine when the other night, while playing Pat Metheny cd Watercolors, with the second track Icefire, i heard a buzzing noise on the right channel, coming from the BMR unit. At the beginning i though it was a Fraimchip, but i soon realized it was from the BMR diaphragm. I ust called the local service and a visit is scheduled for next Thurday. In the meanwhile he told me to try with a sequence of...
We will shortly have a new kitchen and looking to upgrade the sound system therein which was previously a Bose soundbrick fed by Spotify. A pure SQ compare would I assume favour the Muso (I have heard one and my impression was that SQ was good but it was the control at a comparatively high volume level that impressed most) over the Qb which I have not heard. Against this is the price difference, not huge in a Naim context but still important when you are saving for Power Suppliesand also...
Hello. So I have a very modest setup, which is very old and my CD player finally gave up this week. I had a CD3, NAIT3 and some B&W CM-1 speakers which I was very happy with, I don't have the best of rooms and I can't play very loud. My question is, should I replace the CD player and if so what with or should I replace everything with a Muso? I don't have a huge budget so wouldn't want to spend more than £1k - £1.5k, I currently stream stuff through a Bose soundlink and did listen to...
Where would the 122x/150x combination sit when compared to the present series of Naim Products? Would it be more comfortable comparing with the present SI series or would it be closer to the XS series. thank you
Hi, I haven't posted for a while! I have moved home and have been refurbishing a property for quite a while now. I moved my kit into a dedicated sound proofed room a few months ago, and now have the freedom to crank it up anytime of day. Listening to Steely Dan Aja which has inspired this post. Pushing 12 o'clock on the amp I'm hearing so much more, bass is so pronounced and the sound stage far deeper. The increased volume has bought even more joy to the music!
Hi everyone. Looking for some initial steer please. Usual dem of all options will be scheduled. Current rig - N272/XPS DR/250 DR/Kudos C20 .... No Powerlines and using NAC A5 speaker cable. Really enjoy my system but have got a few quid set aside for an upgrade. I don't see the need to change speakers as I belive that they can handle a bigger set up if required. Do I really need PLs? I am sceptical about mains cables. I am thinking about moving to the 300 DR amp (plus PLs.... Maybe) but...
I have bitten the bullet and arranged my amp to be upgraded! It is a year old and just settled in recently so I suppose I will have to give her a good run when I get it back! Exciting times ahead.
Any experience / comments from you gents and ladies greatly appreciated. Finding an N-sub in the USA is a pipe dream while Linn subs come up from time to time. Were these subs similar in performance in their day? Would be used as 2 channel/n-Sat set up. Experience with other brands, REL for example, also appreciated. Thanks in advance! ATB, Mark
My SN2 volume/balance control light got turn off automatically. I belive I had programmed it that way inadventantly. Can someon please tell me how I could turn it back on? Also, how could I activate this auto-turn off function just in case I change my mind later on ? many thanks.
