I read a post on another thread in which a Hugo TT was connected directly to a 250DR and this got me thinking about my next upgrade which was planned to be from 202 to 282 ... I have 3 sources currently connected to the pre-mp: * UnitiServ -> DAC V1. * LP12 -> Linto. * Sky+ box audio. I know the DAC V1 is also a pre-amp; the Sky+ box has a digital output that could be connected to the DAC V1; ... so that leaves the LP12/Linto ... ? So I could connect the DAC V1 directly into the 250DR...

Hi everyone …no picture… well, I'll describe it: both the volume and balance knob on a NAC52 are looking straight down (6 o'clock position). Is this position possible? Or is it just broken (and thus a "good reason" to make a POTS8-Upgrade)? Thanks and kind regards -dgh

I just got a Nait 2 off ebay and it sounds incredible. The rear faceplate is somewhat frustrating though. Specifically, the sockets for the speaker cable terminations (I'm using NAC A5 with the Naim plugs) are so close together that both plugs can't go in all the way , as the pos/neg flaps that extend off the sides overlap. So one cable is plugged in all the way, and the other one is mostly in but somewhat hanging out a few millimeters. Are the ends supposed to be fitted with plugs when...

Hi All, I have a post in the Padded Cell re "how electricity works", and would appreciate any help on that. Secondly, if Ground is meant to be for excees or stray electricity, how does that impact on my Naim kit? Does a very good earth ground at home improve SQ? Any help greatly appreciated as I'm trying to squeeze the most from each element in the chain. Cheers

I have about 30 feet per side of NacA5 that is coiled under my audio cabinet. I'm about to loop the cables as per the image below, but wonder about induction between the points at which the cables are attached by tie-wraps. Given that there are a few amps of current running through the cables, what width of spacer (at the tie-wrap points) would be required to essentially eliminate induction? Thanks, Jan

Hi, Currently running Olive 62/140(serviced) with CD2 into Royd Minstrels. Phono cards removed. Thinking of adding a turntable. How much of a power drain of restoring either the MM/MC cards(i possess both) affect the performance of the 62? Thanks, Sister xx

On the website Naim stated that the NAC-N272 is a Digital Signal Processor. Where is he in this photo?

Does anyone have experience with any of these? Not too sure which one will be suitable and won't rob the dynamics off music when used with Naim equipment.

Afternoon everyone any comments on the above please. This will be in a 500 system. Many thanks Trev

I have two year old twins. I can't have my full slimline rack system in the living room because they will inevitably do "something" to it, so for now it's set up in the garage. It's annoying to have to leave the house just to listen. I want to get real hifi back in the house without taking the risk that it'll get broken. Fortunately, we have lots of built-in shelving in the living room that is high enough that they can't reach up there. I want to create a system that is light enough to sit...

I used to think that there was more BS talked about speaker cables than almost any other subject in hifi. There was a very interesting blind listening test done in Australia and written up in one of their hifi mags. They had a variety of experts in the listening panel, ranging from professional musicians, through recording engineers to hifi writers. The conclusion they came to was that the experts could not detect which was the expensive and which the cheap, between cables made out of...

Hi all - I live outside the UK - given the devaluation of the pound (which hurt me) - I would have thought that prices in Euros should drop. So far I have not noticed.... Does anyone know any Euro based Naim retailers that have better prices now (by -10%) vs a few months ago? Cheers Jonathan

Hi Friends Infected by this forum and the sudden appearance of a bit free time have resulted in some system optimization today. I finally soldered the naim plugs on my speaker cable (4mm copper), based on the orientation of the text on the cable, I discovered that one of my speakers had the + and - reversed. So this was corrected today. I have a detached house, having two livings. My Amp is in the second living, speakers in the primary living. My speakercable is going through the wall and...

Just took ELO's Discovery out of its jacket and popped it on the turntable when, just before I put the needle on the disk I notice, to my horror, that the needle is bent way off to the left of the cartridge. Having no option overwise I gingerly attempted to bend it back only to find that I now have no left channel output. My lovely wife and son are out of the house but I suspect a cleaning or play misadventure that has been either undetected or quietly hushed up. I will contact Rega to see...

I have just come back from picking up my DR'ed 250, and whilst at the store I had a chance to finally hear Harbeths. The system was a 272, into a tube McIntosh preamp and a Plinius 400W Class A-AB amplifier. The setup was shared with other speakers hence the two preamps and I'd guess not ideal, however I can finally say I not only love the look of the Harbeths, they are WILD speakers! Crickey, massive punch and slam, powerful midrange and lovely tweeter. The room was large and very well...

I am considering/saving/dreaming/ planing/hopping to add a Naim PS To my 272/300DR set up, I read everything on forum, the general consensus is 555PS is better but at a cost, or even can be considered little too much for 272 My question is what do I get when I buy an xps vs 555ps? how a PS is effecting the SQ and what am I getting in technical terms in xps vs 555? What is causing the price difference? How xps vs 555 works? Can somebody explain it to a non engenier like me? Also having a...

Hi, I have a friend with a supernait/hicap, would the DR upgrade to hicap DR be worthwhile? It's $1,100 here in Australia. Would anyone have thoughts on this. Thanks.

I am wondering if I cab combine in the same rack levels from Fraim Lite and Fraim. I am planning to add additional level, currently I have Fraim lite but new one I would buy Fraim for my NDX . But not sure if it will fit on Fraim lite lower levels.. Do you have experiences?

Hi all, I'm having some TQ Black delivered monday on trial. Just wondered if anyone had any experience of it? Especially versus Chord Rumour / XS2 which currently have. Hoping it tightens/cleans up the bass without losing rhythm and drive... but also smooths the highs a little. I loaned: Odyssey, EPIC. NAC A5. Didn't like them. EPIC was detailed but lazy. Odyssey was tinny and lost all of the bass definition I get with Rumour. Almost lost the bass completely. Rumour is too thick and heavy in...

Surely no hifi can match this. Anyone had this experience and what was it like?

I thought I'd post my findings on the Flat Cap XS with Nait XS2 as a lot of what I read on the web before hand didn't really guide me. I have it on loan for a month for curiosity purposes. And I know curiosity killed the cat... before anyone says so. Granted it's only been on 3 hours and it's a brand new cap. System: iMac (Audirvana WAVs) > Chord 2Qute (+ External PSU) > Proac 118. (Chord Shawline & Chord Odyssey Cables). Smallish 4.5 x 3.2m room. Bare in mind I am looking for more...

Can I, and if I can, Should I use the XLR interconects from my Moon310 phono stage to the din on my Naim 72. I am not sure weather this would be detrimental to my Naim equipment and/or improve the sound quality. I am currently using RCA from the Moon to din on the Naim and want to upgrade interconects and speaker cables.

Have been using a few different type of bananna plug on my new Nac a5 ..4 meters no less...I can hear the laughing...I am suprised at how the sound changed in character with each type of plug..Over the years I have collected quite a few...I disliked the gold ones that you screw to the cable . the music became very shouty and edgy...I then soldered some linn bananna plugs to both ends of the cable ' the music was much less shouty but a little bland soundstage wise...I then tried the gold type...

I may well be known here for my analogue ramblings but I am being given a rather large collection of CDs. I do not own a CD player. Which Naim CD player should I go for SH? Top budget £1000. Preferably less. It will necessitate an extra Fraim level too! Longevity and SQ important. LP12 remains the priority first source. Or shouldI just rip the CDs and use static digital media instead?

Valhalla is due an 'upgrade'. Has anyone noticed a difference in performance post meter change?
