Hi I have read all I can on here re: Hi-Caps / Supercap - I have NAC82 + 2 x Hi-Cap + 2 x NAP135 I am thinking of:- Replacing Hi-Caps with a 2nd hand Supercap - will I definitely notice a SQ difference (improvemnet!) ? Will any Supercap model work with NAP82 ? Having 2 x NAP 135 serviced - will I definitely .......................... ? Getting a bit older so would just like to get these jobs done before I cannot be bothered Nowadays mainly listening via NDX/XPS2 ...... Thanks Al
I have recently borrowed the TQ Black Diamond din interconnect ( thanks Finkfan), and have been comparing it with my TQ Graphite rca interconnect. The difference is quite considerable, more detail, more defined separation, and a depth and warmth to the sound. I am somewhat blown away as I just wasn't expecting it. Reviews have suggested the Graphites can be a little harsh, which I hadn't noticed until having this opportunity to compare. Proves as everyone says, the need always for a home...
I am looking to upgrade on the cheap. Sometimes this can be done, such as my last "upgrade" which was a pair of socks in the rear ports of my Neat Momentums which resulted in a smoother bottom end not otherwise achievable given the comparatively small size of my sonic temple by simply moving the speakers further from walls. Anyway, I am now looking at my mains connectors, currently the ones supplied by Naim, or Linn. The Powerline looks wonderful but at over £500 a throw, purchase would...
Can some one tell me the weight of an olive Nait 2, I have to organise shipping. Many thanks. Regards, Mark
I see Yamaha have released a new version of their classic speakers, called the NS 5000 they use a new material called Zylon for each driver. Considering they started using beryllium way back in the seventies, this new material may be very, very good. Like the others, these new speakers are gorgeous and not cheap. I would love to hear them with Naim, does anyone have experience with Yamaha speakers? I have heard the NS1000 and they were awesome!
Hi All, I was just looking at Tellerium Black speaker cable and it's a good price. Would anyone like to offer advice about this vs NACA5?
Now here's a thing. I have been researching for a Floorstander that is in that goldilocks region for me at around 90' or 35 inch to 98' or thereabouts tall, and with a slimish profile. Has to be of a wooden finish and blend in with a small room with oak flooring. Has to work close to rear and side walls and with about just under 2 metres apart. As to sound character - they are to be an upgrade to the Reference 3A Veena's that I am using now. These don't have a crossover on the main driver...
Just wondering which is a better amp...? The Naim nac 112x or the older nac102 without a service...I will be using it with a nap 150x ...Would mixing old with new them be a problem...?? Would I need a seprate power supply for the 102 ' or can it be powered from the nap150x same as the 112x.. Would like a newer 202 like most other people else , after auditionoing one in Preston ' but funds dont allow at the moment.. Would the 102 be more like the 202 or is it a different amimal...Oh how much...
....I'm a convertee. To explain, my listening rooms were either too acoustically bright or dead. I spent a lot (and I MEAN a lot) of money on upgrades to find the sound I sought. Didn't particularly want to go down the route of 'severe' room conditioning (beacuse of the aesthetic compromises) but did apply some common sense furnishings, thicker curtains, rugs, chairs etc ( or removed if the sound was too dull ). I Never quite got there with the purist 'no tone control ' hifi route and it was...
Hello all, I am considering a CDX as a source in my 52/250/SBL/Rega DAC/Sony Blue ray system. Is this player worthy of such a fine system? I rarely listen to Cds anymore as it is much easier and cheaper to stream. But occasionally I miss having a Naim cd player because of their unique sound and since these bring back fond memories of the 90s. It is very reasonably priced too. Should I grab it or just stick with what I have?
I have no interest in the 272N. I doubt the added benefit of the HCDR or 202. The 282 is out of reach. I am curious if any SN2 upgraded by using it as a pre with the 252DR? If so what benefits did you hear?
Hi I seek some advice here on whether the slightly overly bright presentation I am getting from my Proac D18s can be tamed. I've had them about a year and done various experiments, I do find they are much more directional than speakers I have owned in the past, but a vast amount of position tweaking has failed to remove the one trait that I don't like, and that is the high frequency domination. On the one hand the crisp and more expressive high frequency response is a breath of fresh air...
There's a new review of the NAC-N272 in What Hifi. Moderated Post: Singh, I have edited this post to remove the direct link. Such links in the Hifi Corner are strictly forbidden unless specifically authorised by Naim. I'm sure those who wish to read it, will be able to find it without any difficulty.
Has anyone added a second hi cap to their set up,if so how better is it
After 4 weeks of well deserved vacation, NAP 500 today arrived at home again, in a brand new box telling me that the DR upgrade had been successful. After an hour or two of reinstalling NAP 500 together with checking every part of the Friams, cable dressing, speaker optimisation etc, etc...I now had 5 valuable minutes to actually listen to how NAP 500 DR sounds in my system, before the children had to go to bed. Bloody marvellous. No more, no less. Ice cold and nothing burned in yet but...
Hi I have a Naim NAC92 system and just got an Audio Technica LP5, but the turntable sounds very distorted when i play it with the pre amp switched on, if i switch it off its very quiet. I have it connected through the AUX channel. is this type of pre amp player compatible or should i need to get another type of pre amp made by Naim.
My 250 is en route to Salisbury for service and DR upgrade. Is it safe to power up the pre amp without a power amp connected? I could then listen via my headphone amp.
I think with the desire for less boxes and maintaining Hi end sonic qualities Naim will bring out the first Active speaker (in its range of present products) which will combine Naim electronics with Focal speakers. Whether the Active system will contain a) Poweramps b) Poweramps and preamps or C) Preamp, poweramps and DAC - I cannot predict. The new system will be the first to marry Naim and Focal together?
Need a 8 -10 foot cable to go between an AV receiver and a preamp. RCA -> DIN. Any recommendations on this? Anyone tried flashbacksales or mains cables are us? Chord probably too expensive for that length - and I don't want the cable to be more expensive than the mass market av receiver. :-)
Hi everybody, i'm looking for an amp for my proac speakers. At the moment i'm using an av pre (nad t175 with an arcam p1000) but i'd like to upgrade it choosing a stereo amp. What do u suggest ? Naim i5s, xs2, or 152/155? What does suit with proac better? tks
I am aware that listening through earphones is the most absorbing way for a person to receive music as everything is taken account of, such as room layout. But having said this, could external speakers through a top of the line Naim set up match this? Yes I know external speakers give 3D depth and the illusion of a band/orchestra, but would a full 500 DR system well set up have the detail of a £2500 portable player with £1000 earphones? It's a moot question asking of the Statement setup -...
Currently I have: NDS+555PS DR, CD5XS, SN2 + HICAP DR. CD player connected to NDS by Naim DC1 digital cable. My primitive question: what positon of NDS' signal ground swirch should be chosen in this case floating or chassis ? Thanks in advance.
I have noticed that some fortunate ones have active 500 DRs fed by 552 DR and this cost must be exceeding the Statement - if there's a SNAXO and SC DR to boot. Considering diminishing returns and all, how do these set ups compare?
I hear a buzz coming from my (2014) NAP 200 when I turn it on, the buzz does not come from the speakers but the unit itself. Is this normal? Thanks, Mark
A chance to buy some history. This may be interest (apologies if already posted) but one of three of Julian's original pre production nap 500 prototypes has become available at a secondhand dealer. No relationship to me.
