Hi guys, guess what. On dismantling my system to get my CDS serviced, I have noticed one of my speaker cables is connected the wrong way round. Will it be worth lifting the fitted carpet and turning it around the right way? Cheers Mike, (feeling rather stupid)
Apologies if this should be in the Streaming Audio forum. We're moving in a couple of months and are lucky enough to be moving into a house with a decent sized room that will be dedicated for music and film etc as well as a 'normal' lounge. The posh equipment will be placed in the dedicated room. We'd obviously still want to be able to listen to music and watch film etc in the lounge and enjoy good (if not exceptional) sound quality. A soundbar is appealing for film etc while the Unitiqute...
Hi, I have a cd5xs and nait xs2. My dealer has loaned me a used hi line interconnect. Listening so far I am very impressed with the improvement. Do you think this would be the best upgrade for the price, my dealer will let me have it £300. Regards..
Surely doing the above beats anything record companies release? What prompts me to write is downloading a lot of digital music in the highest available quality requires buying a CD, awaiting delivery and then ripping it. That's just 16bit 44.1kHz.
Hello All, Just recently managed to get my hands on a used DAC-V1 and wanted to ask if anyone knows if it would be safe to place a Mac-Mini on top of the unit - I would suspect not given the heat that probably comes off the transformer but just wanted to ask, as I am tight for space and it would be great if I could arrange it this way. Thanks in advance...! Cheers, Vin.
OK, so here the set up (after following some sound advice) - 272, 250DR, XPS (DR) with Powerline and driving a set of Focal Diablo Utopia III (on loan). I'm still waiting for delivery of the rack, so its sitting on the old glass shelves. The sound is simply stunning and the improvement since adding the XPS this week is huge. However, I get a hum from the XPS - Definitely not through the speakers. Pinged off a quick email to Naim who tell me and I quote, "it is quite normal to get a physical...
I have now received my additional hifi support levels, so will split my system into two - between the speakers. I was mightily impressed with the separation of the 252 from the nDAC, so bought two levels. Here is the plan, thought I'd check forum thought before sleeves are rolled up: Left Stack 252 Space nDAC Right Stack Supercap DR 555 PS DR 300 PS nVi 300 DR I've sketched this, so that the speaker cables are kept low (coming out of the nVi and 300 DR). I'm aware the 252 and nVi need space,...
Hi, This is my first post, hope I've used it correctly. I own a cd5sx only a few months old and the past few days it has started running by itself. Tried to use the remote and buttons to switch it off but nothing happens, the only way to stop it to use the rear power button. will still play as usual after this as happened. Cheers,
Well its been ages since I was here, anyway I'm looking to replace my Spendors. Originally got my Spendors for a 'bigger' room-filling sound than my previous Rega ELAs (great little speaker!!). However I now find them too polite and bland - guess I want best of both worlds :-) Don't mind buying new or secondhand, any ideas? Geoff LP12/Lingo/Ittok LVIII/Adikt, itunes/Spotify/Macbook/Rega DAC-R, NAC102/HiCap/NAPSC, NAP180, Headline/Flatcap, all on Cosmic Ash Rack. NACA5, Spendor S6E speakers. ...
The 202/200 DR is said to be a rather significant improvement from the 202/200. Has anyone compared the 202/200/Hicap DR to the 202/200 DR? Is the 202/200/Hicap DR at the same level as the 202/200 DR or it sits at a higher level? Lastly, will a Hicap DR improve upon the 202/200 DR? In other words, is the 202/200 DR/ Hicap DR > 202/200 DR It may all sound complicated, but has anyone done all the comparison between these systems? In summary:- 1. 202/200 (worst sounding) 2. 202/200 DR 3.
In the not-far-off process of buying a flat I am resigned to having less space. In particular, whereas I can just about get away with my Martin Logan Electromotion ESLs (which are indescribably magnificent), the near-certain reality is that nothing into which I will have to squeeze my middle-aged post-divorce self will allow me to continue with the MLs. Hey-ho - onwards and upwards. I will be running NDX (just waiting for ex dem model to be available from Grahams in the next couple of weeks)...
My Narcom 4 remote has stopped working - I have checked against other Naim units and it refuses to work with these confirming the remote is at fault. i would welcome understanding if anyone knows how to open the unit to establish if it is something as simple as a loose connection etc which is causing the problem i have noted that there are two small screws in the battery slots but removal of these also be does not help to get into the remote i have tried new batteries to no avail any advice...
Hi again Been a couple of months since i said hello and posted my system on here Since then I've made a couple of changes ..as we tend to ... And though I would share my thoughts on them I've been shopping with tiger paw and now have the akura and valkan and ( soon as it's delivered) the elevator I fitted the akura myself and its quite a simple job . I have the aro arm so it made more sense to me to get the tiger paw than the Linn kore as the paw does away with the mounting boss though the...
I don't understand fully what the sampling information means, but as I can play all sorts, I'd rather purchase the highest definition. In fact what does DSD 2.8 MHz mean?!
Living Voice vs Focal 1008be Introduction I have not posted a review here for a while as my percentage of Naim gear has been reducing over time, but these speakers have impressed me mightily and present a solution that feels akin to pulling a rabbit out of a hat. A small speaker that in a smallish room produces real tuneful bass, oh, and has superb higher frequencies as well. One of the strengths of the Naim forum is the electronics commonality allows a sharing of relevant experience, a...
I have a Naim CD555 player as my source and so that acts as the "star earth" ground as I have been led to understand (although understand probably overstates my knowledge somewhat!). My question is if the CDP is not powered but plugged in to a mains socket (via PS555) will it still act as a ground. I ask as I am using it less and less and so figure I can cut down on electricity and lessen the hum if I just power it up as necessary.
As above: 1. DR upgrade of the NAP300? 2. Recapping and DR upgrade 8 year old Supercap? 3. Cabling: Upgrade my Hiline/NACA5 to Super Lumina (full loop) and change the Chord C-stream ethernet cabling to something better? What upgrade first?
I have decided to purchase a ND5 SX to upgrade my marantz NA8005. I decided to go this rout and then upgrade with a PSU, instead of the NDX due to the reviews etc...., my dealer doesn't keep them in stock. I am currently using my time capsule and PLEX but was wondering if it is better to go with a operate NAS. Also my dealer is recommending I go with Naim AC5 cable to my speakers. Any suggestions? Current setup: SN2, CD5si, Rega RP3, Focal aria 936.
Here in Valhalla we are past masters (and Norse gods) at spotting snake oil and have eschewed the concepts outlined in the subject title...until now. Having just purchased a relatively lowly mains lead which has been frozen and had a posh fuse fitted to replace a run of the mill mains cable to the HiCap powering my Prefix, I have to say I am a convert. The difference was immediately discernible, and I mean, 'immediate '! Just so much more: depth, breadth, emotion, musicality, detail, smooth,...
Has anyone compared the sound quality of these two loudspeakers? The Harbeth is an adaptation on the BBC LS5/9 and the Graham Audio is a licensed edition of the LS5/9 from Auntie. Tx for your comments.
Is RCA input on a Nac 62 a modification? It seem to have BNC input from new. If I buy a Nac 62 with RCA input would that be a bad choice?
All, Some of you would have read that I recently had to part with my beloved hifi for an unexpected/unplanned property purchase and my HDX,SN2,HCdr, power/hi lines had to go Since then as funds allowed I acquired a Unitilite and then a Superuniti ex display at a good price, I still have a nas that was my HDX back up. So I'm back in the camp and as good as the SU is, it's far from what I had and small upgrades will be soon.....hopefully. My thoughts, ideally I would like NDX/SN2 and a good...
Ok this is a different question than has been posted before. So you listen to music you are familiar with AND think that is different good/bad sound AFTER an upgrade? The question is is it your system set up that is wrong or is right. This question insist's you listen to one of the song's posted and analyses the out come. The reason I post this I listened to Justin Bieber "love your self" (that's the song) I want other people's unbiased opinions of that song based on my new findings am I...
This may be stretching forum rules a little, but my (almost new) Stax earspeaker energiser, which is connected to my NAC552, just decided not to power up. It's the top-of-the-range SRM007 tii with Kimik modification. It went through the short tube heater warm up where the power light flashes, got to the end of that, clicked as though it was switching in and died a sudden death... all the lights went out (power, input selector, led's on circuit board inside the casing. Nothing I tried...
With impeccable timing the family and I are due to fly to Turkey on holiday a week on Monday. The last time I went to lovely Turkey I attempted to use my phone as a music player and it promptly overheated next to the pool and so I have opted to leave my expensive phone somewhere a little cooler this time and purchase a dedicated music player. After reading a shed load of reviews I opted for a Fiio X3 ii which was cheap enough at £150 that I don't mind paying for it whilst having pretty good...
