After i sold my PMC Twenty.22 speakers to replace by the PMC Twenty5.22 i am wondering if this is the best move. I have a Naim Unitilite i really like, i also liked the 20.22 a lot, but perhaps i should upgrade the Unitlite and buy cheaper speakers? So my question: what is the best setup soundwise? A Naim SuperUniti plus KEF ls50 A Naim Unitilite plus PMC Twenty5.22 Both setups cost about the same but the budget split is very different. Or is there a better split? The components i have...

There is a change of me having a very good priced demo Amati Futura to approximately to a price of Focal Sopra 2... They have both excellent reviews ( who doesn't ... ) http://www.stevehuffphoto.com/the-sonus-faber-amati-futura-speaker-review/ this guy like sopras better. I am going to use 272/300DR to drive them. My current speaker is SF Cremona M, which i am happy for classical and jazz but wishing for a littler more bass for rock/electronic. Currently my system is in my living room ( 55...

I recently added a NAP 200 DR to my Uniti 2 and am disappointed by the results at the moment. Now I know I broke all the rules about auditioning but having read all the reviews and a price too good to refuse I snapped it up unseen and untested. The unit is ex demo but hardly used, if at all, so running in may be required. The sound with NAP200 is a bit fuller but the base is woolly and at times the vocals are distinctly fuzzy/ distorted. This isn't the tight control and heft I had been...

Has anyone else compared these two? I currently own the 200DR and DAC-V1 (as pre). I have had a 202 on loan and I really like the sound of it (sources are digital through the V1 as DAC). I had already come to the conclusion that I prefer the 200DR over the older 200 - even without a pre, second point is that adding the 202 Pre is a major definitely step up (and of course a 282 is even nicer but that is not relevant now). To compare, I also have a SuperNait 2 on demo. My initial findings is...

My 52 switches inputs by itself. While listening in cd mode it jumped to phono without touching, and on a separate occasion just 15 minutes later, it switched itself from stereo to mono. I dont have the remote so it can be excluded.

I am thinking of replacing my SN with possibly a UnitiQute 2 with NAP 100 or SuperUniti primarily so I can stream FM via the Tuner5 while I work. Has anyone compared what the NAP100 brings to the UnitiQute 2 or these two compared to the SuperUniti. Speakers are Harbeth M30.1. Music is classical played at relatively low volume so as not to disturb my staff. When I want them out of the office, out comes the Stockhausen or Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music!

I'm very happy with my system at the moment but as we are in early planning stages for some major work on the house (next year) the prospect of packing up SL2, n-sub, 552 plus PS, 300 plus PS, CD555 plus PS, NAT01, Rega P3, HUGO TT and NUC it does occur to me with recent advances it would be perhaps possible that Hugo TT, NUC into active speakers would be the direction I'd be heading in as the title says, if I could afford to start again. Or perhaps a Devialet. Has anyone done something like...

The laser mechanism on my CDX2 looks like it requires some TLC from Naim so I've been using my old Nad player recently. Still sounds fine mind you Last night I thought I'd check out the CDX2 again after giving giving the lens a very delicate clean (yes I know that's not supposed to be done) but I cannot get it back to selecting the CDX2. I've gone through the process in the manual but it always leaves the the Nad selected. Any advice? Cheers. TomK.

All- Simple question: Should I go for a 2006 CD5x or a late 2010 CD5i Mk 2? I've searched enough to know the 5x should sound better; considerably so when connected to the other output of the FC2. But the 5i Mk2 being 4+ years newer gives me pause from a repair standpoint. Anything to think about, or just go with with CD5x?

I have found on different forums that people seem to have a really negetive view of naim but dont understand why. I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion but it seems that people single out naim more than any other brand. Why is this?

Hi all. Do any of you have experience of Audiovector speakers? I believe Audiovector are the Danish distributor for Naim Audio so I am assuming there's some inbuilt Naim synergy to their designs? The models that appeal are the forward port facing Ki1 models which can upgraded from basic intro Ki1 model to Ki1 Signature level as funds allow. So are there are Naim & Audiovector users past or present who would care to share their experience or thoughts? Are they worth investigating further...

I am looking to go active on my isobariks. I am using Naim 32.5 - Hi-cap + Nap250 + Nap140. I prefer the look of the chrome bumper as to the olive. I would like to know what would be my best option after purchasing another 250. Ideally i would prefer to run drivers in horizontal config. 1x250 L.F - 1x 250 Mids -1x140 H.F I've read that this is possible with the 362 but just to keep everything in chrome bumper. Has any fellow forum members changed the config on the 3-6 in-order to achieve...

Firstly, I do know the basics. When everything is put together, the 'source first' idea should generally be followed, but only up until a point. I am also aware that the preamp is the musical river all the sources go through, so this could also be the main focus. However, once the preamp and source get to a high level, speakers could be the main focus - and I note this from the thread MarcusM ran with his Titan upgrade. So, what order would you compare the component upgrades? Could it be: 1)...

These babies landed in my living room on Saturday.  I now have them connected using Chord Odyssey 2 cable.   I left them to stand their for a while, and I have them 10" from a back wall and  3ft from side walls.  They are 7ft apart and as yet not toed in.  I will do that next week. Even with 7 hours playing time they sound very good.  This is using my IPod classic connected to the Nait amp.   I am using this to burn the speakers in for a...

We are building a theater room with an enclosed rack below the projector screen. The rack will have fabric on the doors in front of the speakers. Obviously audio quality isn't the primary focus for this system, but I'd like to select speakers that are less bad than others in this environment. With that in mind, are there any decent smaller speakers that would work in such a compromised environment? Sorry for the somewhat off-topic query! epike222

Bought a Muso Qb for my office had a brief listen to it with the stock cable and it sounded great. The only upgradable thing would be the power cord so I did some research and the Nordost Purple flare caught my eyes but unfortunately it was sold out in Hong Kong and waiting to restock. So I went for the Audioquest NRG 1.5 and WOW what a surprise I never expected to get marginal improvement with SQ! Everything opened up vocals sounds smoother bass deeper and tighter and the Naim signature...

I am about to by reel to reel player/recorder and will connect it to Naim UnitiLite. It has analog out and preamp out. Can I connect RTR to those and record for example CD to RTR or FM radio since I have FM module in my Naim UnitiLite?

Hi, I'm thinking of upgrading my UQ2 source, and was wondering if it's possible to loop in an external DAC using the BNC output and the analogue input at the same time. Can anyone advise if this is possible, i.e. when the analogue RCA input is selected on UQ2, does a digital signal still output to the BNC? The DAC I'm looking at does not have a preamp/volume function, hence the question on this

Hi all, i've had a superline/hicap in my system for the last couple of months and really enjoyed it. This morning the left channel appears to have died after i powered down and changed tonearm cables and powered back up again. After swapping back and moving to the internal phono cards in the preamplifier its clear that it is indeed the Superline that is faulty. Has anyone experience of this issue? Any ideas how i might have damaged it? Any ideas who would br best placed to fix it and at what...

With apologies to Graeme for appropriating his thread title, I received a Audioquest Cinnamon digital cable. In place of a very old Tara Labs digital cable, the AQ is substantially better - even my hearing aid wearing mother in law noticed it. The single biggest immediate difference is tune - the AQ is considerably more tuneful - it's a lot easier to follow musical lines. It is also more focused and detailed, without being etched. Finally, music is more extended - bass notes can be followed...

While tidying things up today, I made the cardinal sin of changing two things at once but the good news is that one or both of them made a noticeable improvement. First I used four new pea sized pieces of Blu Tack to replace the micro thin pieces that were used when the speakers were first hurriedly mounted on their stand a few weeks ago. Secondly, I did what we should have been done before and eliminated the extension socket (Brennenstuhl I believe) and plugged the XPS-DR and 272-DR...

I believe that the Supernait 2 is far less fussy about loads, cables etc than other Naim amplifiers and I was wondering whether it would work with Quad 57s. So, I've hooked up my latest spec One Thing 57s to the Supernait 2, using NAC A5 cable, and everything seems fine. Can any of the experts here tell me if the Supernait 2 is really happy with such an odd load, and whether I'm likely to run into trouble with this pairing?
