I wondered if anybody has tried using power line rather than the supplied lite on a Nova and if so is it a worthwhile improvement?
Apologies if this is a stupid question but .... I have a CB Naim NAP250 from circa 1987 which I’ve had from new. Just been doing a bit of cleaning and noticed that the plastic sleeve on the XLR/DIN cable at the 250 end is loose (moves a little bit away from the socket end towards the cable and back again) despite the single screw holding it to the inner part of the cable socket being tight. From memory, I think it’s always been like this but wasn’t sure if that’s how it should be or whether...
I see there is a Rega Product launch event at Audio T Manchester 10am this morning - wondering if they are just showcasing the recent Planar 8 or if something else (Planar 10?) in the offing. As I’m about 2000 miles from Manchester atm is anyone going or otherwise able to update on this?
In my listening area, I use an Archidee stand for my LP12, and a 5 tier Fraim for 52/250. The Fraim is loaded from top down with 52,"space",Super,250,Lingo2. I have been experimenting with isolation under my speakers, and in the process, I ended up with some spare Herbie's Big Fat Dots (BFD). These things are supposed to block vibration transfer. I took the glass from the empty Fraim shelf and put a BFD in each corner, then placed the glass from under my 52 on top. I set the 52 on the...

I have bought a second Hicap to use on my 82 it is within a couple of years of age of my other one and will hopefully compare favourably to the Supercap I tried before. If not then I will go back to trying a Supercap again as I realised after its quite hasty departure that I should have given it a little longer however it will be good to hear what two hicaps can do.
Hi, have been advised to re-cap my olive gear (nap 180, nac 102 & hicap). £300 a piece apparently ????. What difference should I notice after? Is it worth it?
I have an NDX into a 282/250DR. There is also a Rega RP3 into a Stageline. I have space for one power supply upgrade only and that will be it. The choice - 555DR on the NDX or Supercap DR on the 282 which I think would also let me use the hicap i currently have with the Stageline. Which would be the best bet?
Can you think of anything specific in your personal life (like vocation, the place and climate where you live in or just a personal experience) which influenced you into becoming the audiophile that you are. Please, don't say 'the love of music' because it is a given.
Hi. All users of these great speakers, question please BMR grilles on or off, opinions please The less volume you need to attain listening levels the better your system is set up correct or not steve
I really need one of those compact cassette type cleaners for a car radio/cassette player I can see various makes on the bay, Sony for 10 quid? but other makes come with a cleaning fluid - do these clean better? and some come with a demagnetiser - is this worth having too? I have got two little bottles of audio-technica fluid - one is a green coloured 'pinch roller cleaning liquid', and in another bottle a red coloured 'head cleaning liquid' But it's not so easy [ or perhaps unwise ] to...
My dealer alerted me of a preloved Aria. He offered a generous trade for my Stageline N/Flatcap so I'm trying it out for a week. First evening: Playing from cold with Chord Clearway RCA/DIN. Much more extension on the frequency extremes. More space around instruments. Sound is pleasing but lacking drive and a bit fatiguing. Second Evening: Settling down, pace and drive increasing, no fatigue and the boogie is much better. This may be a keeper :) To be continued...
I have a 272/250DR based system, and plan to get a power supply for the 272. Without changing the amp, will a 555PSDR still be a significant enough improvement to justify the cost over a XPSDR, or is a 300DR amp needed to really show off the better power supply? I'm asking because I see a good deal for a XPSDR on the "pre-loved" market, and not sure if I would be better off waiting until I find an opportunity for a used 555PSDR. As always, I'm grateful for your input.
This post is probably wider than the title suggests. These are my musings............... 1. Are some people more sensitive to brick-walled LOUD (re)masterings? I certainly seem to be very sensitive to this. Totally takes any enjoyment form the music and can even induce listening fatigue and headaches. 2. do some components reduce the impact of brick-walling making the music more listenable to sensitive souls like me? Why do I ask? Well I visited our fellow forum member...
I need a pair of wireless noise cancelling headphones of which £200 is being funded by an insurance company. The purpose is to block out noise at work with white noise to help me concentrate. I was hit, head on by a transit van back in Feb and my brain's speed processing is impaired making it difficult to do more than one thing at a time. It's amazing how much it helps with the Grado's (S80) but the wire at work is a pain. Hence the need for wireless and proper noise cancelling. I'm looking...
Hi. I have obtained a BNC RCA. Connecting lead when I plug it in all I get is coloured bars across the screen, what am I getting wrong, please help thanks Steve
Long live my new replacement !!! Oh go on...since you asked 272 / xpsdr has gone ...it's now become NDS / xpsdr. 252 / Supercap Whooww what a nice improvement...and not a 555PS in sight
Has anyone AB'd between say a SN2 and 282(mono setting). Is the mono setting necessary for true mono. I can hear a slight difference with mono LP's I have thru the 282 but the question arose from a discussion with a buddy with a SN2. Thanks...
I’ve yet to be persuaded to switch my primary listening from CD to streaming. The prospect of all that ripping and the ethernet cables, switches, routers, software and apps stuff. Well, never say, never, but for the time being for my primary source I’m sticking with the simplicity and reliability of what I know: CD. I admit it. I’m a dinosaur. I’ve been enjoying for some years a great performance from my four-box CD set up: CDX2.2/XP5XS/nDac/555PSDR. I even tried a Uniti/NDS/555PSDR against...
Does anyone have any experience of the above? I’m a 500/552/NDS owner and am possibly setting up a second system. I heard the Ypsilon integrated and was impressed. Have a chance to pick up a used Ypsilon DAC (first gen not the brand new one) as a possible pairing, and was looking for any feedback. Would also be interested in the front end components feeding the DAC ... was thinking of possibly using my existing NDS Thanks!
I have been using CDX2/XPS2 for years. Love the sound. Just wondering if anyone can give me an opinion on the following upgrade: 1) upgrade the XPS2 to XPSDR, is the improvement going to be marginal or ? is it better to sell the XPS2 and buy another XPSDR or upgrade the exiting one ? It's a popular conception that the resale value for "upgraded" XPSDR will be discounted by potential buyers... 2) upgrade to CDS3, would the sound characteristics change dramatically or just a more refined...
Our house renovation continues and I’m getting to the stage of thinking through options for music around the house. Frankly, if I were starting from scratch I’d likely go for Muso/QB, but since I already have an assortment of Sonos Amps, Bridges a Play5 and a Soundbar, I’m more inclined to repeat what we had in the last house where we used this equipment hardwired to feed in-ceiling speakers. However, it has been 6 years since we chose those speaker units and I wondered if any forum members...
Hi All, I recently was able to purchase a 2nd hand NAP 250, Serial numbers separate the one I already have by a year. However the version I purchased is a 230v machine and mine is a 240v. I'll assume running a 230v poweramp on a 240v supply may change the volume? and that the specs of the transformer are different so the SQ is a different flavour? My setup is a bit of a mish-mash, and granted if I had the money for the new stuff it would allow me to do it in the correct order. However, I...
Hello, I am looking to upgrade the 3 cables that connect these 3 boxes however I do not know exactly what they are! I would like to upgrade them all to Chord Sarum Tuned Array to match the rest of my system. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated... Thank you in advance..J
After hearing the Naim Mu-So QB - I can't let go of how great it sound, and what a treat is was to look at and touch. So I've decided that I'd start working towards a multiroom setup with Naim, instead of my current Audio Pro's. However I have a few questions that I hope some of you more veteran Naim..heads... can help me with? I want to keep my Triangle Quartet for now, as I currently can't justify a speaker upgrade too. They are spec'ed as having a sensitivity of 91db - would the Naim...
