Hi, I was wondering if anyone has the experience moving from a DAC V-1 (pre and DAC) to a seperate Pre and use the V-1 as a DAC source. In my case I am considering upgrading the V-1 to a pre-owned NAC 202 - I already have a NAP 200 DR in place. My speakers are PMC Twenty .22's and sources are 100% digital: Mac Mini (USB), Sonos (Coax) and TV (Optical). Currently I am very happy with the quality - and I am waiting for a Sonore Microrendu which should improve sound quality even more through...

Back in January this year, I posted some thoughts under the heading "Care and best use of expensive sound equipment" which convinced me that all Naim (and other) equipment should be left on. My 'Qute (now sold) had a switch on the back, my new NAC-N 272 has a switch on the back, my new cartridge stage has hidden (or no) switches, the new IsoTek has switches underneath and the Linn Lingo has no switch on the front. Conclusive stuff yes? All to be left on. I now have a brand new NAP 250 DR.

All - Back in the Naim family - been a while! Bought a Nait 5, which is driving old Linn Helix 2 speakers through NACA5. Currently debating the next step; I have three options. The first is to buy a DVD5 primarily for CD replay (hey, it's inexpensive!). Second possibility is to add a FC2. Final possibility is to replace the Meridian 263 with a 563. All are around the same price range; with a 2 year old and teaching at a charter high school my days of anything approaching active SBLs (anybody...

haven't been playing much vinyl till recently. fortunately, the TKR is now fully run in and coincidentally, my system has also settled down sounding shockingly good. don't quite know how to describe what i am hearing from my vinyl recordings -- perhaps 'spiritual' is closest? unfortunately, this tends to interfere with work as i am tending to play records late into small hours everyday lately - not sustainable. enjoy ken

This question puzzles me, because I appreciate the R&D for the first models, but then over time, prices should drop. And then is the issue of competition. With many companies making hifi racks, surely if your design minimises vibrations as well as the best, you can sweep the market by undercutting them with your price! (Or do they collectively play on consumer gullibility?)

Hi It's been a while since my last visit, but I haven't been idle. There is SO much wisdom on these fora, and I thought I'd just a) express gratitude and b) update - if anyone's interested. My mu-so is still with me, as is the SuperUniti* which I bought six months later, back in March. I am both pleased and , well, 'miffed' is about as strong as I'd put it. Why, I hear you ask? Well - following a little PPI windfall - I ended up following Hungry Halibut's early advice. I now have a 272 and a...

I am going to look at a Nat 01 on Saturday details are a bit vague except that it is in 'very clean' condition which in itself is quite vague, however I am close by and looking and hearing will cost nothing. So apart from early CB units having a vacuum display that cannot be replaced by Naim and that as always cosmetic condition is key are there any other pitfalls or things that I should be aware of when buying a Nat 01?

A couple of days ago, my 2012 Series 1 Uniti began switching itself on and off, every 15 seconds or so - a bit disconcerting, I thought. I tried switching it off and on, which seemed to sort it, but then it continued. So then, last night I tried a factory reset, which seems to have worked - so far. So my question is, is the unit paused on the cusp of failing, or do these things happen occasionally? Presumably, iif it starts doing it again it will need sending back, via my dealer?

About 9 months ago I reserved the DRisation of my NAP300 at the italian Naim Distributor and last week I was called and told that I would be one of the first customers (if not the first) to be "satisfied". The service was pleasant, quick and efficient: in 5 working days I had my NAP 300 back with it's nice DR sticker on the back. The NAP is now "running" since 24 hours with a "loop" of Tidal playlists and I have to simply say: WOW what a difference to the "old" NAP 300.

I know this is not recommended by Naim but yesterday I started to test using my supercap to power both the preamp and the headline. According to my ears it sound really good, definitely better than when using an napsc.

This question has REALLY perplexed me because I had Coldplay's 'Head full of Dreams' in 24bit 196kHz playing fine on my previous 250.2. Now I have upgraded to a 300DR, the album is swamped by white noise. I just returned to my PC and compressed this down to 96kHz and it plays fine!! Can anybody explain?? I know the quality difference is imperceptible between 196kHz and 96kHz, but I paid for 196kHz and use the storage space for it. Has the DR done something detrimental?

I'm just about to take a trip to France..... before the borders close and my supply of red wine dries up. I'm going to be away for two weeks (so if you are going to burgle my place, now is a good time to do it!) but should I leave all my audio kit turned on or off? Generally, SWIMBO unplugs everything before we go away.

I have a 272 STreaming Pre Amp, with NAP 200, which were both an upgrade to my UQ2/NAP100 combo. I still have the same speakers, DALI Mentor Menuet - very pleased with them, but I know that there are better speakers out there that will optimise my electronics. So - I am currently considering NEAT Momentum SX5i, which may be too much in the speaker front, but, as I often listen to music at lower volumes, I like the bass on the SX5is versus the NEAT Motives - And I can get a keen deal with my...

And I'm more nostalgic than I though I would be now the time has come to throw these out. Strange sensation, something I remember as once being shiny and modern now so obsolete, started taping the Top 20 on cassette circa 1976, all the "home taping is killing music " cassettes during my teens, to the collections used to woo and impress and then for car journies as the kids sang along. And then in 2003 I bought an iPod, which I still have but that is looking a bit antique roadshow itself now.

Finding the right headphones is not easy. I have tried models from sennheizer, oppo, audeze and abyss and hifiman. Finding a good headphone amplifier and dac that works well with your headphones is even harder. A couple of years ago I sold my headline, as I did not like the sound, Now I am buying a new one because headline and hifiman he1000 is a fantastic combination. The sound make me want to dance. Lots of details and dynamics, treble and bass. I can listen for hours, and I do find new...

Hi all. Some opinions please. My current system is CDX + NAC 102 + NAPSC 2 + NAP 140 + non Naim + power supply into Credos + Rega Ear 2 headphone amp. I have about 3.5k cds and loads of flac files on a Seagate portable harddrive. I want to keep my cds but am thinking of buying a second hand Uniti 1 that will replace the CDX, NAC 102, NAPSC 2 and Rega Ear 2. Will use NAP 140 and its power supply feeding into my Credos. This allows me to continue playing existing cds and plug in my harddrive...

The Aro cable the one that goes from the tonearm to preamp, do any of you know if Naim still have some of this or any dealer in UK?

I recently had the opportunity of acquiring a couple of Powerlines and a Hiline from a colleague at a very good price. He was moving to pastures abroad. My system is NDX/SN2 running ripped music from a Qnap NAS. Speakers are Proac D30R. I fitted the Powerlines to the NDX and the SN2 and tried it out using the standard interconnect cable. The result was more detail and slight increase in weight of music. This wet my enthusiasm to try the Hiline which I did. Result very disappointing to say...

and came out with this (as well as the Qb grille of course). It works ok, but needs a new bias hanger, and apparently the stylus is still ok. I was going to plug it into The Boy's A&R A60, but it seems that's blown up. Hmm.
