This forum consistently sees topics about humming Naim amps and PSU's. "Is it normal", "should I worry", "what can I do" ... Typical responses "Toroidal transformers", "part of the Naim sound", "dirty mains", "get a dedicated circuit" ... Other brands use transformers that don't hum, regardless of the quality of mains delivery. Is the Naim sound so precious that it's worth tolerating the humming?

I've just been contacted by Audience Bath to tell me that our 500 is going in next week. I will report accordingly. Also for information. Anyone in Bath between now and the week after the Bristol show can hear the Statement amps at Audience. We're going to toddle in at some point. Fools that we are.
Hi all, many thanks for the advice about the CD5XS which I ordered today after demoing at home all weekend. My next quandary is do I add a HiCap (or Hicap DR) to my NAP/180/NAC102/NAPSC or do I go for the flatcap to partner the CD5XS. I'm just wondering which would give me the best hit between the ears first. Many thanks.
Hello Folks, I have an old 5x from 2006, which needs a repair. Been thinking about the 5xs. Is there a difference soundwise between those two? Thank you.
Hi Need some advice on the Flash remote control To be honest, I never use it that much, it's still in mint condition from new. But recently I try to use it, the battery are gone, even changes the battery it's not working? Same as the plastic Naim Remote control. It can't be they all broken at the same time. Let me know, thanks
Hi all, this is my first post as I'm new to the forum despite owning Naim equipment for the last 16 years. I'm looking for advice which would be greatly appreciated. My old CD Marantz CD player has died and I'm looking for a replacement. I currently have a Naim 102/!80 and NAPSC which I purchased 16 years ago. I'm think of demoing the CD5XS but was wondering if this is suitable for my set up and whether I should get some additional power supplies to upgared the amps and CD player if I go...
listen through headphones and headline, what in the best power supply to use.Any advice would be appreciated
Hello all, quick headsup from new Unitiqute2 owner, hopefully attached is a pic of my system with two Tele's. I have now just about mastered the ins and outs of dlna and moved a great deal of music to a net gear San and cleared a load of shelf space. The ability to do so was mainly down to reading this forum so would just like to say thanks for the help.
Putting the system back together and plugging the CDS3 back into and snap. Never mind - vinyl still sounds sublime. Lindsay
Hi all, Just a quick bit of advice needed if possible? I have my 202 200 Hicap napsc connected, but when I turn off the power amp and the Hicap, the pre stays on. Is this because it is being fed by the napsc now? Is this normal? Might be a silly question but it's my first time with a napsc. Thanks!
Hi all, I have owned Naim equipment since 1991 and have finally decided to take the plunge with their streaming equipment and upgrade. I have just replaced my nac 72 with a nac n272. I have kept my trusty nap 180 for the time being as well as my cdi. Having set up the system yesterday, I now have a couple of problems: Sound is not coming out of the right speaker; it was yesterday but I have reconnected the SNAIC today whilst trying to add the AV in functionality and it now seems to come out...
I have my Uniti 2 connected to my HT setup via AV bypass. I would like to connect it to my receiver as a source so I can use Tidal in zone 2 on my deck outside. Can't this be done? If so how do I connect it to use as source only?
So still pondering whether to add a 200DR or 250DR to my SU, to include the possibility of bi-amping? Given that the power amp in the SU is not DR'd, does it matter whether the added power amp is DR'd or not? Searching the forum, both options have received excellent reviews, both current and recent non-DR versions, so the choice is not that simple and seem to turn more on future upgrade options, again for both options, more than on the simple question of what to add to my SU. With thanks to...
Sorry about the 'wow'; it seems to be the current thing. I was reflecting on how having a Qb in the kitchen has improved my enjoyment of music. It sounds great by itself, but on evenings like this when I'm cooking a meal that takes ages in the oven with periodic trips to turn over the veg, the Qb is invaluable. I can play Richard Thompson in the sitting room, pootle off to the kitchen and the music is still there, in perfect sync. No need to turn it up loud and open all the doors, which was...
I believe I've just traced the source of the harsh/compressed/etchy sound coming from my 252-based system to the earth cable from my Simplex t/t to 252. (NDX set to floating.) On removing the earth cable from the 252 and switching NDX to chassis, the sound opened out significantly and became smoother with much less-etched leading edges. Multiple back and forth confirmed. Am I doing something wrong in terms of t/t earth connection? I tried t/t earth cable to phono amp earth post, but got hum.
In a little bit of a quandry, I am trying to get a clear point to aim at:- Have traditionally always played LPs – still do BUT: Recently got NDX – copied all CDs to QNAP – it sound better than my CD2 – which does not totally surprise me (but I am pleased !) – I think it has a bit more to give – perhaps XPS2 / 555........ ? See profile – where would you head now ? – Speaker upgrade / XPS or 555PS (I have read on here – some people do not think 555 is a good match with NDX) – but 555PS would –...
Just upgraded my system and will be moving home soon so do not want to set it all up before. However, I would like to rip my cd's to my HDX in advance. Can this done by simply connecting it to the mains and internet and inserting the blanking plug?
I've just bought a second-hand CDX2 (a 2014 model), and I seem to remember that it doesn't like to sit on some racks, because of the metal feet. Wood, glass, a suspended isolation platform like the Audiophile base? I can't find the right thread in the forum. Thanks for your replies.
2010 - It was all so easy back then... 2013 - The itch sets in... 2015 - Dissatisfaction leads to a major change... 2016 - Forgive me, for I have sinned, but have seen the light... The engine room: That's all folks!
i have just upgraded to the nap 500 amp and there is a humming sound and slight hiss from speakers. I had upgraded fron the 300 which didnt humm. Doing a search it appears that this is normal ? It doesnt bother me but wanted to check whether others have experiened this. Its all connected by powerlines. Thanks
My first post to the forum, and hello to all my fellow Brits out there! I'm a Brit living in Detroit. My current system is a UnitiQute (with 24/192 upgrade) - Linn Klout - B&W CM10. (all British!) I've come across a SuperUniti at what seems a good price second hand and am considering buying this to replace the Qute and the Klout. Do you think this would be a smart move and a worthwhile step up in sound quality? Paul
My Apheta (factory fitted to Rega RP10) suddenly decided I no longer need both channels in stereo. So started serving only a left channel.... I know from George's posts MONO is a way to go, but felt this was a bit extreme. Rega service came in yesterday - diagnosis - Apheta cartridge decided to call it a day, after less than 1 month of not so intensive use. As you can imgagine not very impressed. Whilst REGA decides what to do - they left me with some sort of blue appendage stuck to my RP10...
So I thought I will create a post for people to share their experiences from the high end in Munich. I will visit the show tomorrow. It looks like this year no big new introductions are done, but perhaps I am also less prepared. apparently Naim wil show up with the NAP500 DR - so will be interested to have a listen to that. As I have still the non dr version. Furthermore Ultrasone will apparently show the Tribute 7. So stay tuned I will publish my impressions with some pictures.
Hi All, As mentioned in a previous post, I'm currently using a U2, Rega RP3 and Guru Junior's. Is there a limit or ceiling point in terms of turntables suitable with the UQ2?
