I would be grateful for some advice ... I recently auditioned the B&W CM1 S2 speakers driven by a Nait 5si. The sounded really nice indeed. I own a Dac V1 / Nap 100 combo and I am wondering if that will be enough to drive the CM1s... The potential problem is that they have a low sensitivity of 84db. My room is 4x6 meters. Is the Nap 100 capable for the CM1s or would I be pushing it? Many thanks

Hello all. This is my first post since rejoining the forum after many years away. In my absence, Naim has put together a product range that overwhelms this simple soul. Specifically, I don’t want or need streaming capability from a preamp at this stage. I play vinyl and the occasional silver disc. The 272, SN2 et al are fine components, I’m sure, but seem pointless for me. Am I wrong to assume this? So if I'm buying new, where do I go? The 202/200 didn’t wow me. Does that leave my choices as...

Hello all. I've recently joined the forum having 'lurked' for some time. Whilst I do not own any Naim equipment as of yet, I have found the forum threads very interesting, and they have guided me to the satisfying purchase of a (yes, you guessed it) Chord Hugo. I am considering upgrading to a Chord Hugo TT to avail of its better ergonomics and more convenient use of its preamp capabilities (I appreciate that the improvement in sound quality may not be dramatic) - perhaps ultimately I would...

I was talking to this friend of mine who runs an audio store, he's been in München at the Audio Show and was telling me how on Friday night (on my suggestion) he attended a concert by the Philharmoniker with a soprano, music by the Strausses and Mozart. To explain to me why the soprano was good but not exceptional, he decided to replay to me a recording by Diana Damrau of the same Aria (from Die Zauberflöte ). He fiddled with his smartphone, and suddenly some wonderful sound came from here:...

Saw a used pair online with matching stands. Emotions got the best of me and I hit the buy now button. I figured I could always sell them if I don't like them. Now the waiting begins for them to arrive. They should better my Rega RS1's right? :-)

Hi, I have been very pleased with my DAC V1 / NAP 100 / Guru Junior setup the last couple of years. Source has always been a Mac Mini (Roon + Audinirvana) + Sonos Connect. Since I moved to a new place with 5 x 5 living room, I find the speakers lack some 'grunt' especially in heavier rock (e.g. Tool). I have auditioned some speakers and really liked the PMC's (either .22 or .23's - not sure yet). After reading a lot on this website, it seems a definite step up to upgrade my NAP 100 to a NAP...

Hello to the group. This is my first post and I have gone through the files searching for articles on Nait (XS2), Supernait (2), Nait 5si, FlatCap XS and other Naim audio products. If I had know of this Forums existence before going shopping I may have come home with something else. As it turned out on day 1 I listened to my old Celestion SL6si (circa 1991) bookshelf speakers via a Naim 5si amplifier being feed by a $500 AUD CD player. The name and brand of CD player escapes me. All in all...

I cannot seem to find any discussion about this in the archives. Does anyone know why there are two sets of buttons(same ones) in two rows on the front panel of the NAC282, NAC252 and NAC552 preamps (Mono x 2, Mute x 2, CD x 2, Tuner x 2 etc.)? The NAC202 preamp only has 1 row of such buttons. By the way, is "button" the correct term in this context? Any insight would be appreciated.

Not my domestic environment unfortunately and not ever likely to be. My local dealer has just taken delivery of the Statement power amps to partner the pre-amp he has had for a while. I had found an excuse to pay a visit and enjoyed an hour of listening to a variety of music. I (actually we, because my wife accompanied me) have been very fortunate to listen to a number of high to very high end systems in domestic environments over the last few weeks. All the owners are on here and all have...

Does anyone else find this surprising? Tap it and it rings. Speak next to it and it sings along with you. Naim go to a lot of trouble with the wobbly sprung components, but put them in a noisy box. Also, I assume the noise floor is raised if the NDS is continuously ringing along with the music. Don't get me wrong. I love my NDS and it sounds wonderful, but you would think the case would be damped. Keith

been thinking about next upgrade for my system -- the most sensible thing to do at this stage is probably to go for the SL speaker cables -- 4x7m lengths -- serious money!! but i am beginning to think perhaps there is an alternative next step. my 500 amps are quite different in vintage -- one is 2014 while the older one is 2007 (this one on bass). so i am thinking of getting this serviced as its near 9 years, though i gather NAP500 doesnt necessarily cry for service @10years. But the logic...

A brief post on my recent findings with regards to mains cables, power distributors, filters and other such nonsense.... Having gone through what must be a full circle of various iterations, I think I have finally come to a point where I have no intention of messing with mains cables anymore. That was a long journey.... The intention of this post is to summarise my findings - perhaps someone may find it useful when deciding on their own solutions. 1. Dedicated mains spur does matter - cleans...

My final system planned to be : NDS + 555PS-DR (I currently own) 282+SCAP-DR+250-DR (currently owning SN2+HICAP-DR and soon to be upgraded) Hiline + power lines, boxes on Fraim (owning them) Harbeth C7ES3 on Skylan stands (also owning) My upgrande plan to change the amp and my Hiline fo Lumina DIN/DIN interconnect. Big question is that for me whether change the 'stock' DIN/XLR to Lumina one or cable comes with the power amp is 'good enough' it this system. Any personal experience ? Regards,

I've ready many threads on these forums about system hum, and they go on and on and seem pretty mysterious. Well now that I've added a HICAP mine hums too. If I turn the HICAP off most of the hum goes away, but some still remains. It's not a huge concern, but I wish it wasn't there.

Has anyone else experienced an occasional popping from their (DR'd) 552 ? (or any other preamp) When I say 'occasional' it seems every few hours. When I say 'popping' I mean a dull pop through both speakers at a relatively low volume... rather like, but nowhere near as load as, when you power down the main amp. And when I say 'from the 552', it's only since it came back from Salisbury, having been DR'd * , that this has been happening, and so I'm confident it's not emanating from the NAP500.

Hi Folks, What is the presentation different between NAP250.2 and NAP250-DR ? Anyone compared and can share the feel ? Cheers, marcobb

It's been a few days now since I added a HICAP and upgraded my RP3 to an RP6/Exact. I must say I'm still trying to get my head around it, hard to figure out what I'm hearing. I've expected a burn in period for the RP6, but the HICAP was used so didn't expect a burn-in there. Having spent a good amount (compared to the value of my system), I think I've put a lot of pressure on myself to immediately be blown and way and carried off into bliss by the change. I've listened VERY HARD if you will...

I am wondering if there is any reason to believe Naim are working on a further firmware update for the DAC-V1? I am happy with the latest update except for my experience with DSD playback, I still get pops, drops and other artifacts when listening to DSD files.... I am willing to beta test :)

After reading a number of posts on the forum that praised the Hugo, I got a demo unit and set it up in my system in parallel to the DAC-V1, I have 2 PCs, one driving the DAC-V1 and one driving the Hugo, Roon is playing back my music and I have it setup in such a way whereby it is playing back simultaneously on both PCs. Both DACs are set to Fixed Output in order to disable their volume control and hand this over to my NAC282 I therefore can simply switch back and forth between them at the...

I have a pretty large (5,000 LPs, a thousand or so singles) collection and am buying a lot more S/H (as opposed to new) vinyl these days and have been thinking about investing in a serious RCM. I have £2,000 to spend. After research I am drawn to the Audio Desk Systeme ultrasonic: partly because of the size, but also the automation (I want to spend my time listening to records, not cleaning them) and because of the rave reviews it's had. Anyone had any exprience of this piece of kit? Cheers, Kx

I use USB input into the nDAC, with music copied from my PC. However, on the majority of WAV files, when the music on the USB is finished, I get a short burst of loud white noise as playback finishes; and worried this could damage the tweeters. No problems whilst music is playing and this does not happen with FLAC files. I tend to convert to WAV in preference due to the gapless playback on WAV, as in FLAC I get gaps between tracks, which is annoying on live or classical music where tracks...

Hi Just ordered a Thorens 309 Turntable. I'm attracted by the fact that it's a suspended design (I have to place near speakers unfortunately, and looks the part too. I also discounted the Clear audio concept as it's not suspended. Was looking at a lot of second hand turntables, but I'm sick and tired of problems and the unknown. It does however come with a rather cheap Audio Technica 95 E cartridge which costs about £30, on a £1200 or so deck. I will see how I get on with that, but what else...
