Hi-Fi Corner

Is it me or does the last song on many records sound like hell? I.e. the one closest to the center of the record...why? Is it the geometry of the arm? Rotational Speed? The way the vinyl is made? Not making this up, many vinyl have their last song on a side sounding like glass shards being dragged on a chalk board.

Hi Looking for a little help. Today I have a stageline linked into an Unitiqute using a DIN to RCA. The stageline is powered by a flatcap1. I saw on a manual (for a new flatcap xs) with the stageline linked to the flatcap and then the flatcap linked to the Unitiqute (or equiv amp). Does this work with the original flatcap and should I have the flatcap sitting between the PS and Unitiqute. ? I think my Stageline to UNitiqute cable is 4 DIN to RCA (from naim). Hi all, For the past 6 years I have been in audio heaven, upgradeitis has gone and I have been happy enjoying my system without a thought of changing anything. I was testing a new setup (Hugo, thread at: http://forums.naimaudio.com/topic/dac-v1-vs-hugo) and spent 3 hours listening today at moderate volume level, then at the end of my listening session I cranked up the volume to listen to a couple of high energy tracks louder and then my NAP 250 turned off ... The minor revival of interest in cassette as a medium is not really something that the designers of my SN2 could reasonably have predicted. Am I right in thinking that the correct input to use for recording and playback on the Nakamichi that I've just dug out of the loft would be the AV/HDD in/out? And is there any way of monitoring the recording? Or should I just deploy my Nait 2 for these purposes? Thanks

Hi After 16 years of building my system I have finally have a all 500 system (NDS, 552 and 500) and its fantastic. I've always used the graham's hydra to power the system. To take advantage of the power lines I am thinking about getting the music works mains block and connecting it with a Powerline. Has anyone made this change ? I understand Naim's top of the range integrated amplifier is currently the Supernait2. I would like to know where does this integrated stand next to the separates. Some questions as follows:- 1. In terms of the electronics circuitry and design ie. circuit board layout, capacitors, transistors etc., is the internal layout of the Supernait2 more comparable to the NAC202, NA282 or NAC252. 2. Currently using a Unitiqute preamp output to feed some B&O Beolab 9 active speakers and apart from a low level hum/buzz the sound is absolutely subline. Suspected an earth hum loop but discounted this by temporarily disconnecting the earth terminal on the Uniti ( I know, don't try this at home). Has anyone else found a problem matching the preamp output sockets to non Naim gear or other equipment other than a power amp (with 18k input impedance).

After using the NARCOM 5 for a couple of days with my new NAIT XS2, I feel volume control doesn't quite have the same degree of sensitivity (reaction time) as my old NARCOM 4 . Does anyone else think this? Is there some setting i may have missed on the remote?

Hi all Girls and Boys! The old house maid decided that the armboard on my Linn was dirty and needed a dusting. Result: arm and cartridge gone. I hope the rest is still ok albeit the armboard moved slitghtly to one side. Of course i didn't want to humiliate the old, loyal lady with my award winning barracks psalms. Controlling 552 from Naim App via NDS works really well via system remote for input selection. Is there a way to control record out selection in the same manner? Would be very useful when using headphones connected to a record output.

Dear all! I have a couple of questions on different caps Connected to a Dual rail Nac 12 into 160 (recaped and in excelent condition? I have a nice Hicap-DR but Wonder about how it matches my 12-DR compared to an olive Supercap or hicap, soundwise? Is the Hicap-dr somehow a mismatch in terms of caracter compared to its older siblings? Helloo, Maybe its a nooby question but...i've read a lot about dr, what is "dr" doying to 200? I will have nac 202+nap 200dr, do i need anymore napsc or hicapdr ? I recently convinced my father to buy a used Naim Dac V1 (not very difficult after he listened to it). He is delighted of course but he noticed that the fascia is slightly misaligned. It is basically protruding slightly to the right my a few mm and not aligned with the rest of the body. Is that something that be fixed easily? In other words is there a bit of tolerance in how the tray is screwed thus allowing for some adjustment? Many thanks

Picked up my new NAIT XS2 today and apart from an initial transformer chassis hum (which has now stopped). I have noticed a little play (up and down) in the din sockets at the back of the amp, is this normal?.

Am curious to know what the consensus is when it comes to upgrading the NDX - would it better to add a power supply or the Naim DAC? From previous threads I gather that adding an XPS seems to be more common, though I'd be interested to hear the experience of those who have added the DAC. Having previously owned a Muso, which I sold due to the sound being overly weighty, with a congested presentation (only my view) I have been looking at a replacement. Well today I have bought a pair of B&O (wash my mouth out) A1 Bluetooth speakers, which can be paired together to form a very small (with no wires) stereo pair.
