I ordered a pair of Meze 99 Classic headphones last week, mainly to use when on holiday as I rarely listen to headphones at home. They arrived this morning, which in four days is pretty good going from Romania, and are very nice indeed. I've spent couple of hours playing with them through my SN2 headphone socket and have been pretty impressed with them straight out of the box. Just before I stopped listening I plugged them into my Hugo and what a shock! The difference in sound quality...

Dear naim headquarters, could you please add an external DAC loop facility to the 272? It's easy to do: you'd just need to switch to an analog input WHILST processing digital sources iRadio, UPnP, USB etc. and directing them to the digital output. I know this would slightly defeat the purpose of an all-in-one, BUT it would make the 272 almost immortal (by allowing us to loop in external DACs). Many thanks for considering! Stefan

Decided to audition the NAIT XS2 yesterday at my dealers, I thought it may be a worthy upgrade from my old Nait 5i-2 and also while there (just out of interest) I had a listen to the new NAIT 5si. Took along my AE REFERENCE 1s and CHORD HUGO. First off was the NAIT 5si which IMO didn't improve much if any on the sound I was used to hearing from my old NAIT 5i-2. I then switched to the NAIT XS2 which immediately caught my attention, it had a much harder hitting tighter bass and a lot more...

Hi, I would like to ask forum members, particularly DB, on how they find the S800's mid range and tweeter sound, as it does fly in the face of all previous logic to combine them into one unit and does it work well? Also, if I go for these beasts, I will be running them active with 500dr's, it seems strange to use 2 x 500's on two bass units and only one on the BMR unit, so does it work well? Thanks in advance

Forum Members, My main listening is via CD, mostly chamber music, organ, and recitals from small classical labels. Some of these labels offer downloads, but I do not see many labels switching from CD as the main format. Personally, I am not too keen on ripping my CDs to HD and playing via a computer or HDX or UnitiServe. My concern is the paucity of good CD players available and manufacturer's dropping this as a music delivery format. One of the reasons is Philips have stopped making CD...

I would be grateful for any feedback from members who have tried matching the Dac V1 with a Nap 200 (Non DR). I am concerned because I am experiencing recessed vocals, lack of treble detail and a bit of emphasised mid - lower bass (some bass boom close to corners as well). The rhythm and punch are definitely there and they are lovely but I am very concerned about the loss of upper end clarity and the recessed vocals. This is especially obvious when I watch movies and vocals are relatively...

... is just one of the chapters on Julian Musgrave's wonderful Audio Insight website. He takes an in-depth look at why we do high-end audio, which makes a refreshing change from virtually every other audio site that looks at how to do it. « separation of why from how is a crucial element in the process for the following reason. Everything we do in high end audio must be judged against what we are trying to achieve. Thus how we do high end audio can only be validated against why we do high...

quick question folks: my SL2 were last torqued by a dealer in 2009. i'd like to hear from those with experience of this speaker whether its time to consider another fettle? i may decide to do this myself if i can trust myself with a torque wrench -- well, i am (not) ashamed to admit i have never used one :-) enjoy ken

Bought a second hand Hi Cap power supply, after it's been on for a while the Hi Cap produces a low buzzing sound. What can I do to stop the buzzing without having to turn it off every night?

...is one of those odd terms one reads in Hifi reviews, along with all sorts of claptrap that can be dismissed as having little to do with the enjoyment of music - something for the round earth Hifi lover rather than the flat earthers raised on Linn and Naim in the 80s. However, since getting my DR amplifier and Super Lumina wires I have come to really appreciate it. The way notes emerge from silence, and music ends with that same silence, is most beguiling. I remember seeing the Hilliard...

Following on from the recent Olive Supercap on 82 thread I took the plunge and picked up a recently serviced Supercap-2 . The intention is to use it to power my Snaxo 2-4 but while I wait for the Burndy to arrive I thought I'd give it a go on the 282 instead of the single HicapDR. WOW. Even cold from the box it's a pretty major step up. The level of detail is amazing. I'm hearing harmonics in guitar strings that I've never heard before. One happy camper here. It's going to interesting to...

looking for support and advice on how to connect the two units and how to configure - in addition has anybody observed the performane and can provide feedback

Thought I'd start a new thread as the previous SC on 282 thread had strayed somewhat. I was interested in the differing views, but... Anyway. Snaxo burndy arrived this morning so having got my Saturday chores out of the way it was time to swap the SC and HCDR around and utilise the SC full capability on the Snaxo. Two Laura Marling tracks in and there's no competition. I was impressed by the SC on the 282 and in my system/room etc it's a winner (for me) over the HCDR. But with the 282 back...

It seems a good logical step for my XS and Stageline would be to add a Flatcap; this is a modestly priced upgrade, but would lift all boats per se. I've heard to avoid the HICAP for the XS and stick with the Flatcap, also getting a HICAP would be twice as much and not help the Stageline. That said, what is the setup like for this, i.e. the SNAIC configuration. Given that I have a SNAIC going from the Stageline to the XS (SNAIC4?), and the Flatcap comes with a SNAIC (not sure what...

I all, first post although I occasionaly lurk from time to time! Way back in the late eighties I remember how difficult it was to decide how difficult it was to choose a long term pathway. Like many people I dabbled with various bits of hi fi, but the first big decision was a choice between a Xerxes and the LP12. Chose the Roksan but I always had a lingering doubt about my decision. Had a similar problem between Exposure and Naim too! Anyway, my trusty Xerxes requires serious funds to bring...

Can I use the Unity as a Cd player/Radio source using line out into my preamp? I'd assume so. Looks like a simple way to get a Naim one box solution for Cd and FM playback for casula/background listening.

Hello everyone, I would like to ask some questions regarding choosing a Naim for my pair of Dynaudio Contour S1.4. I've always liked the Naim sound and think that it will be a great combo. The problem is right now I can only afford the Nait 5si. My room is small and I listen at moderate volume. In fact all amps I've tried at home can pull off sufficient volume, but the real thing I'm after is the control. The 1.4s are rated 150wpc, 4 ohms, 85dB sensivity and they seriously produce A LOT of...

I currently own a Naim Nait 5i-2 and absolutely love its excitement and energy but its a 2006 model. Should I worry about its age?. I purchased a couple of years ago EX DEMO and as far as I know it has never been serviced. I was thinking of an nait xs2 but don’t want to loose the excitement of the nait 5i, so then I thought of the new nait 5si with an extra 10wpc. Are there any major differences in sound between the nait 5i-2 and the new 5si? I am leaning more towards the nait 5si than the...

Hi Folks, Three years ago I decided to sell my Naim system. On reflection it was probably not the best decision I have ever made, but there you are. For the last while I have been getting by with a Linn Majik DSM/NAS and Activ Majik Isobariks (Majik amps). The current system is OK, being quite musical and reasonably detailed. But there is one aspect of the presentation that I am finding increasingly difficult to live with, and that is, the system lacks excitement. I love deep, powerful...

I am in the process of upgrading my preamp from 122x to a 202, I will buy a used Napsc but my question is until I can afford a HiCap DR should I use my FlatCap XS or sell it and buy a used Older kit HiCap?

Purchased the Naim DAC V1 from my distributor for use with my Nait 5i-2 and eagerly waited a couple of weeks for delivery. Initial impressions IMO where a smooth but dark presentation with an over emphasised bass and the DAC seemed to exaggerate certain areas of individual songs, also changing between tracks on different albums produced an irritating couple of second audio delay at the beginning of each song. Naim addressed my issue with a "FIX" of forcing SRC mode on the unit at power up,...

Hi Guys, I would like some advice as to which of these two phono stage options will be better. My system is Rega RP10, NAC82/Supercap Olive, NAP 300, Harbeth SHL5 Plus.

I'm about to acquire an XPS2 to add to my NDAC, but space on the rack means something/s will need to be moved to a bookshelf to the left. VPI Scout on top, Level 1 - Sonos Connect and Trichord Dino Level 2 - NDAC Level 3 - Supernait Level 4 - Trichord Dino+NCS and HiCap Level 5 - VPI SDS Already on bookshelf Mac Mini (hires library) and Airport Express (streaming from devices) So question is what goes to accommodate XPS and where should I then position things on rack. Initial thoughts may be...
