I recently acquired a NAC62 and NAP82. I have been told that an external power supply will improve the sound even more. I am looking on the used market. I am new to Naim so I want to know what my options here are. I believe a Hicap would be best, but what about Flatcaps which seem to be somewhat cheaper. Would a Flatcap be just as good? The rest of my system is a Rega RP6 with Exact cartridge (soon to be upgraded to MC) and Dali Zensor 1s, but I am getting some Royd Edens tomorrow. Thanks...
I'm looking ahead regarding my next upgrade. Purchase an XPS dr or a high spec Rack? After reviewing all the various threads on the forum, I can see pros and cons for a High Spec Rack, and generally only positive Views on XPSdr. My inclination is to go with an xps dr, as I think that would yield the most significant improvement... But would appreciate imput from forum. System is CDx2, Nap 250dr, Nac 282, Hicap dr, Sopra2's ,Project 2 Xperience X pack TT, Dynavector, Apollo Rack
Whilst browsing the forum, I found an old post from not long ago about these speakers and began to wonder if anyone was still using them on a daily basis.
I'm rather new to Naim so forgive me if this is a silly question. I purchased a Superuniti and love it. I leave it powered on when not in use. My question is whether it is important to turn the volume to 0 when I am not listening to it? Does it matter to the amp or speakers? Thanks in advance for your reply. Kyle
I have CD5 XS spdif connected to DAC V1 via Chord Co lead. DAC V1 then connects to 32.5 (with 62 boards)/HiCap and then to 2 x 135s and SBL MkIIs. I'm finding this dificult to listen to for long periods and end up with fatigue. Could problem be with the Chord - it has phono ends with BNC converters each end. DAC V1 is about 2 years old so might it need an update? I have not ever/yet tried the CD5 XS analogue out into the 32.5 i.e. bypassing the V1 and using the CD5 XS internal DAC. Anyone...
I know it's set up for "Spotify", but is this exclusivley? All my music is on Google Play Music ( I didn't like the way Spotify kept breaking). Can this be "cast" to the SU with, I dunno, maybe the NAIM App? Is that how it works? I'm confused.
Hi All , I've just received a Witch Hat 4DIN to XLR interconnect I purchased off the auction site , it is specifically made for a NAP 250 . The problem is that it doesn't seem to fit at the XLR end , there is an alignment groove which is in the wrong place , does anyone know if the XLR fittings have changed from the old 250 to the DR version or if I am making an obvious mistake ? Thanks . Peter .
Hello everyone, I have an economical power strip to change with a more quality model. I would like to spend 2-300€ at maximum. The new power strip will be used to link xps2, sc2, 250.2 and turntable, but I prefer to buy a 6-8 sockets model. Thanks in advance for your support. BR, Mark
I just replaced my two, soon-in-need-of-service olive Hicaps with an olive Supercap, to power my NAC282. This power supply is 20 years old, not the latest technology, it is cold out of the box and likely in need of a service - but with the first few measures I am all grins and kicking myself for not having done this years ago. This is what I have been missing in my music. This is the sound of which the rest of my system has been capable all along. This is just so much fun Music is so much...
I have one HDCD, a Bryan Ferry one, and it is obviously superior to the others. When I choose a DAC, will it elevate the 16 bit recording to sound as good or better with say HDCD or DSD? Now another DAC point I'd like to make, as I try to learn and understand, it seems the Naim DAC uses older chips than newer models, and the different approaches such as FGPA (seem) to be being used successfully in a few brands now . It makes me feel as though a future purchase is a "wait and see", I know...
Following the recent acquisition of Neat Momentum Sx3i speakers, I have taken the plunge to permanently move my system into a new bigger room. I had tried briefly moving it via, close your eyes folks!, an extension cable and a plug board. All of you will be, for once, in agreement with SWMBO on the need for that arrangement not to be repeated. So, I am looking for advice on how best to set up a new electrical supply system for the new room, which is currently somewhat underpopulated with...
well just over two weeks ago I made the decision to jump to Naim and ordered a 202/200DR...still waiting for the one and only dealer in the country (it's a small country...) to tell me it's arrived... How am I supposed to start the upgrade path if I still don't have anything to upagrade...? answers on a postcard...
I'm very disappointed, perhaps even *angry* with the forum members. Me having asked a complicated Vinyl question, and receiving not a single suggestion to upgrade. Only "adjust this" or "try that." Even going so far as to hint at upgrading twice, with not even a single suggestion to try a better deck/cartridge combo in a different (glossy) color. Usually I can simply bring any ol' insignificant whine or sniffle to these hallowed forums, and quickly get several suggestions to upgrade, but in...
Would using the PS555 power supply on the NAC-272 result in a significantly improved sound quality over the XPS power supply.I'm thinking of a future upgrade path using the PS555. The amp would be a NAP-300
Hi! im thinking of buying 4 powerlines to connect them with my cdx2,nac282,250.2 and my supercap dr. my question is if its really a good and noticeable upgrade,i now have an powerigel thats suppluing the gear with Power. i know its a lot of Money but i Think it will make my naimgear sound even better, but i dont know for sure so i want to know if anyone on this forum has tried it,is it gonna make a sonical difference in my gear?
Has anyone got any experience with Blok Stax racks? They seem reasonable value on paper.
Hi everyone, Has anyone done a comparison between the Focal Utopia Diablo vs Focal Sopra N1? I would be curious to know if the Sopra actually sounds better than the Diablo. Kit is N272 & 250DR Thanks. Steve
Any one have an idea of the possible lifespan of its internal batteries? How are they replaced, is it a simple operation? Can it be done at home?
Has anyone tried the Ruark Prelude floorstanders out with Naim kit ?. I am currently using some Neat mystique II and they are fine but lack a bit of depth bass wise . I am not a basshead by any means but listen to a lot of rock and blues, which does have some whack now and then . I wondered if there would be a vast difference betwixt the two .
It seems I am the target customer for Naim having had a Muso and a Unitilite and now considering an upgrade to separates. I was intitally considering a Nac-N 272, Nap 250, HDX and Focal Sopra speakers. However after a month of using Tidal I have found 99% of the music I listen to on there (and I have gone out of my way to look for more obscure stuff in my collection). I have also been impressed by the reliability over broadband. So should I dispense with the HDX and get a power supply for...
I want to hear what a 32.5 sounds like. I have a 72. Can I accomplish this by simply swapping the the 729s for 324s?. Or is there more differences? Thanks.
Hi All, It's been a while. For the last year or so I've been enjoying my first "real" system: Nait 5i-2 / Rega DAC / Rega RS1s / BK XLS-200 sub Room is It's brought me a good deal of listening pleasure but in all honesty I have never fully warmed to the Rega RS1 speakers, although they seem good value for money & work okay mounted on the wall, which was important at the time. I find there's a bit of glare and upper-mid/treble roughness and a lack of substance or solidity to the sound. A...
I read many conflicting positions on this. Can seasoned Naimees shed any experienced views? I'm not thinking of one (250DR on the horizon)...Just curious why such variety of opinions. G
Does anybody here own the B&W 805 D3? I just happen to read about this new model although it was launched sometime last year. Apparently the long-surviving Kevlar driver had been replaced by the new Continuum driver in the all new 800-diamond series now in their 3rd generation. Is the new Continuum driver a huge departure in sound quality from the previous B&W models which are on the Kevlar? Any thoughts would be appreciated.
It seemed like many forum members bought a SN2 in a mad rush about 2-3 years ago, including me. Is it me or has the SN2 fervor dissipated a bit since then? Questions for current/past SN2 owners: If you have an SN2, are you content or looking to upgrade soon? If so, to what? If you have an SN2, have you added a PSU? Why or why not? If you had an SN2, what have you upgraded to since? (It seems to me that many have gone to the 272+250DR combo for a good 100% more cash outlay over the SN2.)
