Does anyone know of a compact (ish) speaker, ideally floorstanding that works well hard up against the wall. I have a mint pair of Naim refurbished IBL MK2s in my small listening room which work fabulously well (and i've used SL2's and SBLs in here too) but given that it's 2016 rather than 1989 i'm sure that things must have moved on! I'm only really interested in designs which have specifically been designed to work up against the wall - i have no desire / option to have speakers even...

This has been discussed here a couple of times - for eg http://forums.naimaudio.com/topic/supernait-as-pre - but a search through past threads on the topic shows very divergent views - from 'complete waste of money' to 'very clear improvements'. I suspect this may in part be due to earlier threads being about SN1s in some cases and about 250.2s or earlier in almost all... Has anyone tried adding a 250DR to their SN2? I'm unconvinced the 'recommended' upgrade of of NAP 200DR - replacing a...

So, I blew my budget on a Demo RP6 with new Exact. Limited funds moved me to purchase an Original Sony PS to use as a CD stopgap after hearing about it from Art Dudley and John DeVore. That little bugger has some boogie in it. Doesn't "sound" great but it does notes and beats better than 95% of the CD players I've heard. Best $32 I've spent.

hi everyone this is my first post so hope it's in the right place. i have just purchased the Unitilite and wondered if anyone could recommend some speakers to go with it. the hifi shop recommended Kef R300's which sounded great ( in the demo room) and I have read good things about the B&W CM5's. Right now I am using my old B&W 602's and they sound ok, but I think maybe they are not making the most of the Unitilite. i don't play my music really loud as I live in an apartment building...

Of coure I normally leave everything powered up, but there are occasional times I have to turn things off and I'm unsure on the correct sequence following a change in my set-up. It used to be very simple: The 200/202 amp combination and a CD5x with a Hi-Cap on the CD5x. Powering up I used to switch on the CD player and the Hi-Cap first (never sure if it made a difference which way round) then the Amp. Powering down in reverse: amp then CD player. Since then an NDX has been added and the...

Well I got my CD5XS player back today after the logo was replaced. A simple repair one could say. Well it has come back and does not work. The stop light is permanently on and when play is pressed nothing happens until the word "ERR" is shown. The tracks can be changed and the correct track number is displayed, press play and the above is repeated. Whatever happened to checking a player after a job is completed in the factory. As well as this the cd tray itself has marks on it that were not...

Since buying my NDX which I love (no PS as of yet), I have a feeling my LP12 is lagging a little behind in terms of presence and effortless portrayal of the music - almost like it's running to keep up. It excels in other areas but how can I try and give it a boost in power & authority so to speak to bring it nearer the NDX. I realise I'm comparing apples and oranges but hey, they are both fruit. Both front ends go into NAC 52/135s and SL2s. LP12 is Ekos, Krystal, Prefix, Lingo 1 and all...

My HICAP DR has been running for a bit less than a month now, with no glitches, been silent and working as it should. This morning when I was listening to music all of the sudden it started making a really loud noise, like a buzz/hum. I immediately shut it down, let it sit for a min, then powered it back up. All back to normal. Noise was gone. Has anyone else ever run into this? Should I be concerned about returning it? Do you think it something in my house AC could have triggered it? Thanks...

Dear friends, I'm looking to buy a nap 300 amplifier 2011 year to get active on my system. The seller sent me some photo shops of the internal of the amp and they show 008 transistor. I heard about 007 and the new 009 dr, but never about 008. Who can help me? regards. Alessandro

Do you power down your power amp when not using it? or do you leave it on all the time as well as your pre? I am not really talking about for long periods, but say, during the days when you are at work, if you listen during the evenings.

(Note to Moderator : I hope the references here are within the rules – if not, my apologies, and please delete - thanks. ) I already use a couple of Tacima CS929 six way power blocks for TV, Blu Ray, PVR, phone, laptop, router. No, I wouldn’t plug my Naim kit into one, but after reading past posts on this forum, by respected contributors, I decided the Tacimas were worth a punt as a preventative measure for potential noise and RFI issues from switched mode power supplies (which I understand...

Just before Christmas I was fortunate enough to receive a sum of money from a legacy, which has finally enabled me to afford my first Naim system. Yesterday, my wife and I visited the Sound Organisation in York to listen to a demo of a pretty high up the food chain Linn/ Naim system: Linn LP12/Ekos, NAC-N272 pre-amp/ XP5 XS power supply, NAP250 power amp, SuperLine phono stage/ HI-CAP power supply and CD5 XS CD player/ HI-CAP power supply driving Spendor A6R's and Neat Motive SX2's. This not...

In my efforts to make my Naim system sound the way it should I've tried serveral, sometimes radical things, all with small incremental improvements. It wasn't until this easter I finaly got it sounding right (understated) again. The difference was realy quite shocking. What I was experiencing is best described as a certain intermittent ringing, tiring digital distorted sound quality at some vocals which to me were unbarable and directly noticable but very difficult to reproduce. This all...

Hello, I am very close to being a Naim owner for the first time - I have had a NAC272/NAP 250 combo on home demo for a few days, comparing vs a Linn Akurate set-up. In terms of amplification the Naim combo destroys the Linn kit, but I feel the streamer element of the 272 is a weak link. So I am thinking of buying a pre/power combo or SN2, and keep my streaming options open and audition an NDX vs the Akurate in due course. Ideally I want at most two boxes for amplifier duties - any thoughts...

Hello, In my office system I have a Headline 2 powered by an isupply. I listen to music on my computer through a Dragonfly dac to my Nait 5. I really enjoy the Headline (it replaced a Graham Slee Novo). I am considering upgrading the Dragonfly DAC. I'm looking at used DACS in the $800 - $1000 range (CDN). I have seen a used DAC V1 at a good price and I wonder if I shouldn't buy it and sell off the Headline - hence my post. Does anyone have experience comparing the headphone amp on the DAC V1...

I had this morning again the experience of the effect of switching of my black boxes due to some work on the electricity in the house. I had the feeling as I have had before that I have a renewed clarity and pureness in the tone of my kit. So I start to believe that while keeping it on all time is a good idea, that we also should have a shut down every now and then. I would appreciate to hear about other experiences of others on this. So do you switch it off every now and then, in what...

Just upgraded from 202 to 282, compare with 202, found the bass is totally over, the 282 is 2nd hand and I keep "power on" over 2 weeks so it should not lack of run in, also moved forward the speakers as many as possible but the presentation of bass is still very heavy for my taste, can anyone give me some solutions, or suggest to back to 202?

Dear Forum.... its been a while , hope you are all good :) Two quick questions. Current Space only allows for 1 stack, current rack holds 5 boxes (base+5 shelves), top shelf not free for equipment in compromise with the boss :). So is Base + 6 shelves to high ? Anyone got pictures of Fraim at this height ? If 6 is good then next move is easy - add PSU to streamer ! Current systems - ND5/52/SC/135/SBL If 6 is pushing it we get to the second question, would you go to: ND5/ XPS /52/SC/ 250- 2 -...

I first started to actively listen to music when I was around 7 or 8 - sitting down in front of our family Pye Stereophonic Black Box record player and sifting through any records that caught my eye from the family album collection. Having older siblings in the 1970s' meant I could be listening to rock one minute and Abba the next! Anyway, living in the country where at the time there was only one TV channel and obviously no video games or Internet to keep me amused when I got fed up playing...

Having built a new system last year, I am now looking at upgrading my speakers in the near future and I am quite tempted to look into getting some SBL's. Over the many years of owning Naim equipment, I have always been intrigued with the that fact that they have divided opinion with some over the years. I have to admit I have never listened to any, which has made me more inquisitive towards them. I would also imagine that there may be be better options available today for the similar price...

During experimenting with the remote for the NAC 202, I quickly pressed the balance buttons earlier this winter. Now, the speakers seem to be out of balance with one speaker putting out a higher volume than the other. Does anyone have any tips on restoring the balance? Would returning the one speaker to center solve the problem? Thanks.
