Hi-Fi Corner
Hi all, I'm at the cross roads and really need your advice. I can buy either the NAC-N 172 XS/NAP 155 XS combination or the Superuniti for the same price from my local dealer. I have been using the Unitiqute (v1) for several years and love it, but want to get more detail from my Sonus Faber Concerto floor standing speakers and have spotify connect. Not really interested in the small gains from the Unitiqute2. My music comes solely from digital sources (typically Spotify/Tidal).
Hi - I've tried to find a definitive answer in the forum and across internet searches but cannot reach a clear, definitive answer. Maybe the reason is that things have evolved and older info is no longer valid? Is it required (as opposed to preferred) to use Naim speaker cable? And if yes, does it need to be a certain length? I have seen articles saying use of non-Naim cable invalidates warranty; Naim cable is an integral part of the system; swinging to non-Naim cable is perfectly acceptable...
Just wondering how they compare sound wise, thinking of selling Uniti2 and going back to olive, will be partnering a LP12
Having downsized to Naim N-Sats I am in need of a sub-woofer - although the N-Sats have surprisingly good bass for their size they don't really get to grips with dub reggae and Phil Lesh's more subterranean bass excursions. Ideally I would like an N-Sub but they don't come up very often and the only one I can find is stupidly over priced. I have been offered a Velodyne DD12 at a very good price and am rather tempted. This has got me wondering whether anyone is using N-Sats with a non Naim...
One of my dealers has indicated that the next price list, and increase, are expected end of March. Do you have the same information? Chag -
Hi all Time to upgrade my B&W 685 bookshelves which have served me well. I'm trying to get rid of my REL Series 5 Sub so am keen to find floor standers. Do anyone here have experience with these speakers in a similar environment? The room size is roughly 2.6x3.8x with a height of 2.8m. Unfortunately Naim doesn't support room correction (yet) and am quite weary about having a boomy sound. I'm renting and thus can do little in terms of acoustic treatment and at least one of the speakers...
Need some advice Currently running Audiolab 8200cd+8200q+8200p to D20R. Looking to change to Naim source and amp as heard there is better synergy. Due to budget constraint I am only thinking about XS2 and CD5XS. Since Xs2 only giving out 70wpc compare to 8200p at 100wpc, would I be down grading the system? Or should I save up a bit to get 202/200 or supernait 2? Any of you has same experience? Thanks so much in advance
While listening to a 24 bit release of some of Elvis greatest hits, I noticed several of the tracks turned on my DAC's HDCD indicator light. My understanding is that this encoding is 20 bits extracted from certain CDs so I am confused why a high resolution file would cause this. Any ideas?
Hello dear forum members, how is it going. I would appreciate it if some of you could give me some advice on my current setup. I managed to get my hands on a mint set of PMC OB1 i speakers recently. So I replaced my Audio Physic Classic 10’s and although the Classic’s are a very nice speaker, especially for the money, these OB 1 kenobi’s on the end of my humble UnitiQute blow them away in every aspect. Bare one. At low volume the Audio Physic’s sounded better. I was really very pleasantly...
Hello, I have the Naim CD5 i and I discovered that some of the plastic that holds the CD in place has come away, It came off yesterday when I took the magnet off to place a CD onto the Drawer. I should say the player runs fine and still sounds as beautiful as the day I bought it (if not more beautiful now), although I am worried that I could be causing further damage by playing it, so I haven't played any more since I discovered the problem. Naim CD5i Naim CD5i Should I get this repaired?
I am hoping to move from the US to the UK and have a couple of Naim pieces (172XS / 200) and wondering about the power supply. Can I just take them in to a Naim dealer to have the power supplies updated?
Dear friends, I'm upgrading my system (555; 552; SNAXO 242; SL2) from 250.2 to 300. My dubt is connected to the best way to use the 300 in active. As you know 300 has dual mono structure and is possible to connect it to snaxo output using one ampli for bass and the other for high frequency (benchmark) or (and probably in this way the ampli ought to work better) is possible to connect it sending to the same ampli high and low frequancues related to the same channel (left or right) What do you...
Trying and failing to switch/connect the output of an NDX5-XS via an input connection (typically the "Tuner" input ) on my nac82 Preamplifier (circa 1999 issue) to a record output connection (typically such as CD,VCR and Aux on Outputs 4,5 and 6 respectively) to which I am connecting a headphone amp . As per the Owners Manual I depress the "record button" on the source (CD or Tuner) device. The depressed button's lamp glows dimly and there is no effect when also depressing the "record...
My 282 system reached a warm, listen-for-hours state when the 250DR burnt-in. Took about 80hrs and wasn't down to acclimatisation! In search of more detail I've been demoing a 252. As others report, there's more detail, separation of instruments and a far tighter base which initially left me wondering where it had gone compared to 282, before realising it was there in spades; it was just so tightly controlled it didn't dominate the sound as much as with 282. The problem, though, is that the...
Morning, I remember having seen here, a few years ago, a pic posted of a square something that was placed inside the laser compartment of a CDS3 to protect the mechanism during transport. I have never seen it in a shipped CDS3 but it would be useful to have something like that just in case. Since these are not available anymore at Naim, I would make something like that myself, so is anyone able to retrieve that picture please? I have done some research with the search button but couldn't...
There's been a lot written about positive effect of 555PS on DAC but the comments for 555PS on NDX seem to be largely negative. I can't have a 3 box head - it doesn't work for me financially or space-wise. I have an opportunity to acquire an '06 555PS (I know it needs a £500 service) but does anyone have anything good to say about putting it on the NDX or does the general view remain that the bare NDX is better than this alternative? Also, a bit concerned about the reported hum factor..
Dear All; I'm currently using 202/200/hicap/napsc/cd2x/nd5sx set up. Non dr versions Planing to change 200s with 282/250 and add second hicapDR. it is difficult to sell the hicap and add supercap, i will loose too much money. I listen both CDs and streaming via qnap212. I have little money left so i a can add xps or better value option hugo ( by the way is there any point to add desktop version?) To my humble ear i prefer the sound of my streamer specially in 24/96 track vs CD2X, maybe i am...
Thought I would put a post up to say hello...After 20+ years with Cyrus I have treated myself to a new hi-fi (well, it is my birthday) so have gone for Naim. Most of the current set up has been with me a very long time - Cyrus 3i running as a pre-amp into 2x Cyrus Power amps with PSX-R in mono-bloc mode. Source was a DAD3 Q24 but thats now dead and have moved to NAS through Squeezebox Touch with the EDO plug-in (so 24/192 ability with appropriate hi-res downloads). Using a Rega DAC. Speakers...
I've seen a few posts mentioning Audio Physic speakers, but I'd like to collect the thoughts. Especially thoughts about matching Virgo or Avantera with a Supernait 2/HC2. (I was REALLY keen on hearing the new Devore Gibbon X but my local dealer isn't getting them in; it seems that it's difficult to get orders filled quickly by Devore these days and customers have to be really dedicated to the brand, and patient. And there are a ton of options in that price range.) I'd love to hear thoughts...
I am using an old chrome bumper Nap250 with a Nac 32.5 would there be any improvement in using an Olive Nac72 or would it be better to stick with the original Nac32.5?
An audio system that you have tested at your friends house or a some audio shop, show or similar, the top of the top, unsurpassed even by yours system? Mine was "simple" system Audio Research separate pre and power amp in pure class A (I don't remember the model) Marantz CD (I don't remember the model but was the Top of the range) Wilson Sabrina Speakers .....Love them.. just a dream (sexy speakers too ) I had this wonderful experience last weekend it will be hard to forget
After some serious upgrading, I have a mid- level Marantz CD player and a pair of Linn Kan's available to give to my son to get him started on the serious hi fi chain. I have the choice of ex- demo Nait 5si or Unitiqute 2. The latter has obvious Streaming/Internet radio possibilities, but is the amplification up to the job, or would the 5si blow it away in that respect? I have to say that my son is a lot more PC able than I am and I think streaming and all it involves would be easily...
I just replaced my 729 Time Aligned Boards in my 72 with the 324s and the sound has gone from good to OMG!!! I am in 52 territory now! The sound stage and depth have taken a huge leap forward and the treble is softer. The sound seems less compressed as well. The 729s are supposed to be an upgrade but I beg to differ! Anyone else agree? Thanks.
I have a separate spur, consumer unit and earthing. I still get hum, the 552 is the worst (others aren't so bad - quite a few because I am running active). Can anything be done? I have tried switching off the other consumer units (suspecting a connection somehow), but no difference. Still a hum....
I have been admiring these KEF R109 speakers online and they look fabulous. Has anyone heard them? or heard them with Naim?
