Got my unit just after Christmas, it was I thought an awesome piece of kit, but now a few months down the line I'm thinking what have I bought here. The bass distortion is really getting to me now, to the stage that I am listening to my music and getting no enjoyment whatsoever, I am just waiting for the next track with this terrible distortion to kick in and believe me there are many. I have the majority of my music on an external hard drive and have had no trouble whatsoever with any of my...
Important Announcement Regarding the Availability of Naim Ovator Loudspeaker Range This is a formal indication of our intention to discontinue the above loudspeaker range from our product portfolio as of May 2016. I know that some of you have vigorously supported us with the Ovator range and will continue to enjoy your Ovator for many years to come and for this I thank you. Sadly, despite this, we have to take a look at the global demand and difficulty in obtaining and maintaining the supply...
In 33 years of Naim ownership none of my boxes has ever blown a fuse. The power here has been a bit dodgy over the last few days, with quite frequent flickering of the lights, and earlier this evening there was a really big flicker and suddenly there was silence. The 250 stayed on, but the XPS went off. I'd never had to look in the fuse holder before, but lo and behold the fuse was black. Two minutes later it was working again with the replacement fuse, and tomorrow I shall call Audio T and...
My thirty old Kan's are looking forward to a well earned retirement. I have a small room only and propose to look only at stand mount replacements. The budget will cover Majik 109's but could be stretched to Neat Momentum SX3i's. My problem is that living in Northern Ireland, the auditioning possibilities, especially in the home environment, are somewhat limited.. I have listened to the Majik 109's and they seemed to be a natural successor for a Kan lover, but can I do better? If I did turn...
I touched on this topic in a previous thread and the advice from HH and others was to split the meter tails with a Henley block, then fit a separate consumer unit and run 10mm mains cable to unswitched sockets. I have spoken to my electrician today and because of other work being done in the house we have worked out a route where I can keep the length of the feed down to 7 or 8 meters. Before going ahead I want to make sure I buy the best components so is there a preferred consumer unit?
I have been spending some serious money just recently, Sopra2 's, Nap 250 Dr, Nac 282, hi cap, Tq ultra blacks...dedicated power supply....thanks to my son in law, qualified electrician and all round genius, that cost me nothing. So I now contemplate another major expense, do I buy an expensive Naim fraim or another really expensive Rack? Do the merits of high-end hi fi require nothing but the best? Are their more economical alternatives? Would appreciate the...
I know this thread has been discussed previously, but I can't seem to locate it and wonder if someone could point me in the right direction or post a link to a previous thread. My question concerns rack order ie. Which is best top to bottom for optimal placement and performance. I am asking mainly about base electronics as my turntable is on a separate wall mounted dedicated shelf. Currently I have NAC 172 with a NAP 250.2, Rega Fono stage with NACA5 which currently sits on top of a...
I have to decide between SuperUniti and Uniti 2. Obviously, the SuperUniti is the better equipment. But I own a pair of Usher Minidancer 1 floorstanders which I want to keep. The question is: Will I be able to hear the difference of these two devices with these specific speakers which have some, albeit minor limitations (frequency range for one) ? Would it be worth to pay more for the SuperUniti and lose the CD capability (which I will use once in a while) ? Thanks and regards.
Which unit sounds better? If I buy the SU its a stand alone unit until I can afford the NAP250-DR Or should I wait a little longer and buy the Nac-N272 / NAP250-DR together? Speakers in mind are pre-owned SBL's or new Neat's My end game would be to settle eventually for Nac282 / HiCap Or if the SU and Nac-N272 can take the Nap300 I will go eventually for Nac252 / SC. I can't decide which to go for. Help Naim website upgrade for the SU is up to Nap250, not higher. Any reason? By the way, Neat...
I currently have a nait 5i-2 and i am awaiting arrival of a naim dac v1. Can i use the dac as a pre amp for my nait 5i ?. Would the dac v1 be better than the naits own pre amp? I Have little understanding of how this works or how to set this up, could someone please explain.
I wonder if anyone uses a SanDisk Clip? I didn't want to use my phone to play music at the gym and I get terribly confused converting FLAC to MP3 and importing it into horrible iTunes. With the Clip you just drag and drop FLAC files from the nas to the Clip and off you go. The sound quality, even though the freebie earbuds is very good. It's tiny (I've included a couple of Naim plugs in the picture to give an idea), weighs virtually nothing and clips to your shirt, as its name would suggest.
Qute/nDAC/NAS. I already have the former. Would it sound fine in a NAC202+200 contest? Alternative is an older CDX2 .
Bristol is long gone, Easter has come, Munich is around the corner an soon is the Trinity. Thus the idea of this thread: What are the three boxes, strings or thinguies that you wish Salisbury to develop and make for you for Munich, after summer or for Christmas? As for me (I get six wishes since I am the OP): 1. A US2 SSD, à la Melco and well fed 2. A worthy fascia logo that doesn’t bleed, stick or faint 3. The DAC of the Loch Ness, on springs 4. A native service support for the BUZ 5. A...
I've not used a power line before, and I just wanted to check if the 'delicate' connection I have is correct or if I have something wrong. When I say the connection is delicate: if I lightly brush my hand against the plug of the power line (going into the 555) it is enough to sever the connection and kill the power to my power supply and 272. This afternoon I swapped out the ethernet cable on the 272 (very carefully) and the pressure of the ethernet cable lightly brushing against the cable...
Went to a friendly local dealer yesterday to pick up some Quad 4 Evo I had ordered to give my racks a little more height so that I could better dress my cables. We had a nice chat and he informed me that he was leaving on vacation on Tuesday and had a 3M set of Superlumina speaker cables that I could take with me for a few weeks while he was away if I wanted to try them. I took them knowing full well that I really would need 5 M lengths to make it work in my room... But after tweaking my...
I have been offered a nait xs-2 brand new at a nice reduction from the RRP. I currently own a nait 5i-2. Its a 2008 model so its getting a little long in the tooth. Although it still performs flawlessly and continues to provide plenty of enjoyment I always crave for better soundstaging and possibly a little more instrumental timbre too. After researching a little into the nait xs-2, I was thinking maybe this amp could provide me with the dynamic musicality of my nait 5i-2 but provide more in...
Hello, My system hifi is Naim nait 5si kef Ls50 audiolab mdac nac a5. I am very pleased with how it sounds. I found a good opportunity for a naim xs no xs2. the difference if I sell the naim nait 5si and buy 5 xs is little. there is much difference in sound between the two? thanks
Hello, i hope everyone is enjoying their easter weekend and i apologise in advance for disturbing you guys for what is a silly question I'm sure. I just had a quick question regarding my phono connection on my 82. So I've just bought a Rega turntable and I've made the connection to my NAC 82 using the bnc to phono adaptor. Now i have a section directly underneath which the manual says is the phono grounding terminal. I am a complete novice and do not know what I am to do with this. do i need...
hi, just a simple question. I'm looking forward to upgrading my 82's pots 6 to 8 when the war office gives my the OK. Until then, I was wondering whether I should do a little custom removal of the single lock tie that gathers the wires on top of the pots board. I noted that the pots 8 hasn't got one. http://forums.naimaudio.com/to...ficant-changes-by-sn Would this turn me into an evil modifier? cheers
Has anyone tried or is using this combination ? I am slightly constrained by my listening room as I live in a Victorian terraced house , meaning party walls , bay windows and fireplaces etc. As I go forward and build a system around my 250DR , I will be looking for some speakers that aren't much taller than my PMC 23s . My experience tells me to look for front ported or sealed box designs and these ATCs seem a good place to start ? Thoughts please ? Peter.
You know the ones, where the groove appears slightly off centre and the stylus seems to swing slightly from left to right with every rotation. The effect is not necessarily audible, but what exactly (come to my aid all ye with engineering degrees) is the effect on stylus, and sound?
When the Supernait was released, hifi magazines used to report that its preamp section was derived from the 282, or even from upper in the range, and its power section from the 200. A common rumour was it was a 202/200 in a box. I have even read that its power section was a pumped up 5 i 's. SN seems to be a mysterious creature. I don't know anything for sure, of course, as none of us know unless they're from Naim, but since I am planning to move from my Supernait to pre/power, I am asking...
What with the (yet to be officially confirmed) news that Naim are to stop making the Ovator speakers, this means that customers now have no way to purchase an active system from new, which is a big shame. Many people who run active systems, myself included, wouldn't want to go back to passive. This got me wondering how many people on the forum actually run active and what their set ups are? So don't be shy, what's YOUR active set up? Mine is NDS/555 into S1, Snaxo BMR/Supercap DR, 3x NAP300...
Hi I need some urgent help please. I have followed the Naim Firmware Update instructions to the letter including checking the USB stick worked by successfully playing a WAV file. I then deleted the WAV and copied the five firmware files over. When I inserted the USB stick into the Dac, all five lights illuminated as they should. Unfortunately, after two hours, they are all still lit and I'm now totally confused as to what I do next. Please could anyone offer some advice? I dare not take the...
Hi all, Tried to connect my Headline to my NAC202, but not having any success. Tried sockets 3, 4 and 5 on the rear, but not getting any sound through it at all. The source is playing through the speakers okay... I had my NAPSC connected to upgrade socket 1, and Hicap on upgrade socket 2. I disconnected the NAPSC and fitted the blank plug. Then connected this to my Headline and the DIN to sockets 3, 4 and 5 to no avail. What am I doing wrong? It was working with my olive setup just a couple...
