Well, the title says it all really.... The big boys have arrived and the run in process has begun. Straight out of the box they are pretty stunning and prove the Naim - Focal marriage can produce some excellent offspring. I thought the S600s were the end of the journey, but these babies build on the strengths of the Ovator and deliver so much more. Much more to come I suspect. Thanks to James and Henry of Tom Tom Audio for the hard work this afternoon!

So the consensus is SL speaker cable should come after upgrading to 282 + 250DR. Now my problem is a financial constraint. I am only allowing myself a certain amount of $ for luxury goods/ year. In the context of my current system would upgrading to a slightly used 282 while retaining the SN2 as power amp provide significant SQ gains? This option makes better fiscal sense given 250DR will likely show up on secondary market in another year. Should I just wait a couple of years and switch out...

Is there a sonic difference between an early 72 and a late 72?

Is there be a dr version of the nap145 mono amp in the works?

After my previous post ( here ) I finally decided on a Goldring Eroica H (the good deal at the Bristol Sound and Vision Show helped a lot....). Installed the cartridge on Friday and did a bit of listening over the weekend (Kansas Smitty and Sonny Rollins mostly). I'm happy with the cartridge - even more so that it has a higher output than my previous Osawa OS-60 so I can happily listen at 9 to 10 o'clock on the dial. I guess it will take a while to burn in fully (anyone have an estimate for...

I just got a used NAC-N 272, replacing a 202 + napsc and a Linn Ikemi CD. WOW! But I do have an issue, I am seeking advice from someone who experienced a similar problem. After two day of being in place I started to experience problem, the unit is switching by itself on “mute”, if I unmute, it mute’s again. Once it starts, it appends on every input. Only work around I found is switching the device off over night (one or two hours won’t do it) I saw some treads reporting similar issue, but...

Has anyone been able to compare these two? I am thinking of upgrading from my DAC V1 to NDX, but not sure there is much improvement, unless of course an XPS is added to the NDX. One forum member recently said he has quite a few sources connected to his 252 depending on the mood and music, and even though I have a Hugo, for dance music, the DAC V1 really does the job very well. Maybe NDX/XPS does it even better...?

My local dealer has a 12 years old CDX2 for sale as i consider to buy. What to expect compared to a flatcap'ed CD5 XS as I have at the moment and are very pleased with? Is it a big upgrade? (even I know that it always will be subjective) And also is a 12 years old cd player which has never been serviced a bit risky? My amplifier is the XS 2 with flatcap...does it do justice to a CDX2?

I've just finished another extended home demo of an XPS (non DR) on my 272. The first time I tried one my 272 and 250 DR were brand new and I did not notice a big difference in what the XPS did (contrary to almost every other relevant post on here). So I thought I would try again, now everything has bedded in. When I put the XPS on I thought I noticed more of a difference than the previous time I used it. However, I have just taken it off the system and I have to say I'm noticing little (if...

Having just made the move to 552 from 52, and with my record deck still being the sonically superior source, I am frustrated that I have to use 'Aux1' as the button to select the record deck. There are buttons for CD, Tuner, HDD, AV but languishing at the end are Aux1 and Aux2. It was possible to buy labels for the 52 switches to re-label them. The buttons on the 552 appear to have the labels integral with the button. Has anyone with a proper source component and a 552 reconciled this...

Does the new NARCOM 5 bring new functionality or is it just repackaged to use the same shell as the streamers' remote control? Chag -
IanGPosted: 12 March 2016Last Updated: 13 March 2016
I came downstairs this morning to discover "Streamer Update. Please Wait" displayed on the screen of my NDS. Obviously I know the Naim streamers don't update automatically and I haven't set anything going. I am currently running the latest firmware. I tried opening the control app and it couldn't find the NDS. The remote control did nothing either. I've powered down via my 555 PS, rebooted the NDS and all seems to be ok. The update message has cleared, control via the app and remote control...

Any recommended power strips from low cost to higher ones? I live in Hong Kong and all the lower cost power strips here are poorly made China products. Is there any low cost Naim recommended UK power strips that I can buy online? If I would like to future proof for a while is there any higher quality ones that I can consider? Thanks for the help!

I'm sitting here looking at my recently re-arranged Fraim. There's one empty (standard) level between a NAP500 and an NDS. Above that, on a 'medium' level sits my 552. So I have space above my amp and space above my NDS and the ceiling above my preamp. But doesn't the empty level look... empty ! A standard level is too low for a bunch of flowers or a pot plant, but high enough that you can see all the wires dangling down at the back, so what do people put in there to make the space...

Hello All, I am considering buying either a used ND5XS or a used Unitiqute2 as a streamer for music discovery ) Spotify/Tidal. At the moment i use a PC connected to a Dacmagic (which surprisingly is pretty good!). Question is, is the Unitiqute2 any good as a streamer? Price used is a lot less than the ND5 and it takes up a lot less space! Regards Matt

In Europe currently for an extended business trip and considering purchasing a QB to help me keep my sanity during my downtown. Would only do so though if I could safely swap the mains cable for a North American voltage cable when I got home. Does anyone know if the device is dual voltage??

Hi All, I know this one has been answered, I ask again because I first had a CD5XS, 172XS & 200/250.2 combo which I have connected to a dedicated circuit installed by a sparkie. I have an Isotek Evo 3 Syncro from the wall socket into a Sirius power board which when installed completely stopped any hum. Then I got a 282 + 2 x Hicaps and of course the NAPSC. I had a double 15 amp socket installed on the wall (230V) instead of the single one (same line) and now all goes into the powerboard...

Earlier this afternoon I (discretely) re-installed the 252 and installed the new 300DR...... Later this pm the t'other half said it sounds like "the musicians are in the room" ... I wasn't sure what to expect...other than hopefully 'better'.... lower floor noise, more detail, improved bass from the SL2's, just more of everything good... not run in yet, so prob more to come..... so far a big smile on my face, enjoying the music....a great combination Thank you Naim.. Have a good weekend

Thanks to Simon-in-suffolk, I adjusted my DAC V1 grounding switch from floating to chassis and the sound quality on my 202 did subtly improve for the better. on my 282, my source is a Hugo and a project turntable, so how do I go about grounding that without a Naim CD player or streamer? The solution given by chord is the following "Naim amplification has the mains safety ground and the signal ground separated. Naim grounds at source. To ensure that there is no possibility of mains hum or...

Just wondered if the 5 pin din cable that connect the 252 to a Supercap along with the burned is a standard 5 pin snaic. I ask as mine is starting to look a bit old and I have a couple of newish spares. Tim

Hi, I hope that my English is acceptable to all of you. I encountered a serious problems these days with my SU to which I connected a sub Rel by 4/din-2RCA cable from pre out amp: I heard a annoyng eletrical noise from my speakers at loud volume but at moderate also: lowering the level control from the SUB the noise has disappeared. Then I tried to connect the sub in Hi Level directly to the right Speaker connections and it seems that the problem does not occur. What' happens with the SU...

Dear Forumites, Some thoughts and observations on my two systems (details are in my profile). Recently noticed that: SN2 with Ovators does have a very well controlled bass, but the bass and low fundamentals seem to be a bit dwarfed by the everpresent lower-mid range (vocals, guitars). 282 / SCDR / 250DR with Monitor Audio GS300s has a lot of bass + mid range and seems to sound fuller. Of course the two rooms are different in size and their acoustics are different as well. The question is: am...
