Hello everyone... I'm new on here, but a 13 year fan of Naim hifi. In 2003 I bought a CD5/112/150 set up with Spendor S8 speakers (not the S8e)...... In 2014 I upgraded to NDS/252/250/Supercap/XPS/Spendor S8.. LOVE the new setup...!! I listen to everything... dance stuff.. Black Keys... Pink Floyd... Coldplay.... Bluetones... Steve Vai... LCD Soundsystem... an eclectic mix... Where should I go next with the system? It seems pretty obvious that 2k...
Having just got my UnitiServe up and running, I'm interested in views on the next step in my system upgrade. Current setup: - UnitiServe - UnitiQute 2 - Nap 100 - Dali Mentor Menuet Ultimately, my plan is for the UQ, NAP 100 and Dali's to be my system in the study, and to have a full size NAIM setup in the living area. However, I can't do it in one step! I am probably looking at individual components of c£2-3000 each. So what's the first item I buy? Do I upgrade the power amp, put the NAP...
ND5XS/XPS2 vs. NDX (bare) Cam someone please tell me if I will get much improvement over existing setup of ND5XS/XPS2 by upgrading to NDX ? Setup SN2/NAP 200 (Bi-Amp) CDX2/XPS2 To take this upgrade from point A to B, I need to sell ND5XS/XPS2 or should I keep XPS2 for NDX? since most people say XPS2 doesn't do much for NDX? Many thanks
First of all please forgive my ignorance. I am relatively new to the world of Naim. I have a NDX + XPS (I think) on demo & like it a lot. I am using its DAC section only paired with an Aurender W20 as source. From Naim product hierachy (assuming same add on power supply), I can assume that the NDS will be superior to the NDX. However, I am mightily curious about the nDAC as I am more interested in the DAC section of these devices. How does the nDAC compare (DAC section...
So when powering the stageline threw flatcap xs I also need a 4-5 pin DIN from flatcap xs to my nait xs. Is this just the standard lavender cable (or chord chrysalis, crimson, cobra etc.) with 4 pin DIN in the other end?
I recently acquired a 2003 model NAP300 to replace a 250.2 and whilst there was an improvement in separation, it wasn't the earth shattering improvement over the 250 that I expected. My choices are get the NAP 300 serviced, or sell up and move back to a 250.2 or an olive 250 (my current preference). Does anyone have any experience of the effect a service had on a NAP300? Is it worth the significant outlay, or shall I cut and run? current system: ndx/xps & lp12 nac 252/sc...
Hi folks I am new to the forum. I have a bit of a problem with a hum from the tweeters on my Neat speakers l have added a Flatcap xs to my CD5 xs and noticed the problem. My system consists of CD5 xs, Flatcap xs, Nait xs2, Flatcap 2 and Nap 155xs. My cables are Snaic, Chord rumours speaker cable, all but my Flatcap xs use Audusa Eupen CSA 2.5 power cord. My Flatcap is using the power cord supplied. Can anyone help me with this. Regards Davie
Hi, Simon's- in - Suffolk's topic 'Radial Mains' has raised the question that I have been desperately trying to ignore for sometime. Not wanting to hijack Simon's topic I'm starting anew. Here goes.... Some years ago I had a separate consumer unit installed,3 x 10mm radial cables terminating into 3 x 15amp MK sockets and plugs After years of upgrades I now have an LP12,552/500,nDac/555 into Titans. This year we plan to have alterations to our house which includes electrical work and I have...
I have tried to source HDCD's here in Oz, and after much research it appears this format is obsolete. Is it worth Naim including it in the cd players, or is it now an unnecessary addition to include? The SACD format seems to have won out in that battle.
i am looking to place my Uniti on a more substantial shelf that at present - currently a bracketed mahogany shelf. I have a sandstone wall in my lounge and I wondered whether anyone is using something like the Apollo WT1 which will bolt top and bottom brackets to the wall. Any advice would be appreciated.
I'm finally getting around to setting up my NAT-01. I have a circa-2010 Galaxie 17 and I need to decide what cable and connectors to use. I expect that WF100 will be suitable, but which brand and type of connectors should I use?
I am new to NAIM so looking for advice.... I am told that NAIM systems need to be kept switched on all the time... In that case: 1) Do the logo light needs replacing after a number of years of being 'on' all the time? 2) The front panel display on the N272, NDX, etc. - is it best to blank the display to prevent screen burn? (My N272 has the options of showing the time when as a 'background' - is having this switched on a good idea with regards to screen burn?)
I have 272/250DR on a Fraim. The Unitiserve is in another room, connected via CAT 6 cable and Chord C stream. Standard Naim interconnects and A5 cable to Ovator 400s. Dedicated spur for power with powerlines. It sounds impeccable, this system. I regard it as a musical instrument, a constant source of delight and musical connection. Thank you Naim for being so clever! A secret of happiness is to be content with what you have, and to avoid chasing the rainbow. Seeking Nirvana can lead to...
Hi I am considering an upgrade of the interconnect cable between my Superline to 252 but before I try to arrange a demo of the usual suspects Hiline / Chord Signature or if allowed by the "boss" STA can anybody make another other suggestions from their experience ?
Hi everyone... Sorry I've been absent for a while - 2015 turned out to be a challenging year. My Dad had a bad fall in April and was hospitalised aged 88. Between then and July we had a series of highs and lows, but ultimately on the 10th July his underlying heart condition got the better of him and he passed away. As his executor I have had both the practical and emotional matters to deal with... In September my wife asked for a separation which was completely unexpected, but perhaps...
How old does Naim CD player and amplifiers need to be before servicing in generally recommended. I have a Naim CD5x, Naim 122x & 150x plus a Flatcap. Also would they all need servicing at the same intervals. What would the service include and are there expected to be any audible benifits in sound quality or is it just to maintain the longevity and reliability of the product. Finally, any idea of the approximate cost of doing this. thanks
Is there a difference in performance between the old grey and the lavender interconnect? And does all Naim sourches comes with interconnect?
Hi The most common form of termination seems to be Naim Plugs at the amp end and soldered banana plugs at the speaker end. Now all speakers I have owned offer 3 types of connection. Banana Plugs, Spade Connection or bare wire connection using the hole in the connection post . I have always used the bare wire method. My reasoning is as follows. 1. It does away with solder which is just means to an end and as far as I know offers no audible advantage and could possibly offer an audible...
... Don't worry... They were in the box. Are they directional? I guess not, as Naim would have prevented it by differentiating the connections on the units. . But then I wonder why there is a yellow ring below the cover... Manuals do not mention direction. Got it connected and has been running in over the weekend. Thanks for a quick answer.
If Naim still sold SL2 loudspeakers what would their likely cost be now?
I have the very lovely unitiqute 1 with the 24/192 upgrade board. Love it to bits, use it most days. Its connected to an equally lovely set of ATC SCM11 monitors which have really impressed me. But at some 85dbW they are a touch on the insensitive side. And the UQ can start to struggle when giving it some beans. So I have secured a nice previously-run-in 250/2 as a poweramp upgrade from Cymbiosis. Just waiting for the special cable to come from the factory -- needs to be 2 phono to 1 XLR. At...
As I'm sitting here typing this, I'm still shaking my head in dumb amazement. One month ago I received a brand new Rega RP8 / Apheta 2 combo. Purchased from a good US online dealer as I'm a six hour drive from civilization. The RP8 replaced my previous RP6 on the top shelf of my 5 shelf Fraim. TT's have been residing in this position now for years. ADMITTEDLY, they have always been the complete rectangular plinth with dust cover variety. INSTRUCTIONS TO WIFE: "I'm leaving the TT in it's...
Details now available at thehifishow dot com site, including what's in each room for the HifiWigwam Show on 20th March 2016 at Scalford Hall near Melton Mowbray. Hover over the room plans to see the systems - including some Naim in Room 226.
Ok forum, our family electrician has agreed to wire me a radial weekend after next for the audio equipment... So any recommendation on gauge of wiring from the consumer unit?
Now the Harbath SHL5+ has been out for a bit has any S400 owners compared them ? I had the older SHL5 & moved to S400 & quite like them. Just interested if Harbeth fixed the issue that I had with them i.e a bit bass light , a tad slow in regards to PRaT and as suchnot the first choice for rock music. Cheers Peter
