I have UQ2-Nap100 combo. It is only hardwired to Linksys switch. Nothing else is attached. Signal ground switch is at chassis now. I decided to give some oomph to the sound of my new TV. I'll run a toslink optical i/c to UQ2. I know that there will not be physical alteration grounding wise. But still I wanted to ask whether chassis or floating is appropriate. Thanks.
Here’s something that I have been agonising over for many years and, despite having asked various people/authorities, have never really had a definitive answer. Forgetting the issue of economy/global warming etc. (which I don’t I hasten to add), should sound equipment be left on all the time? Obviously if you go away on holiday etc. the answer there may be considered obvious but . . . . This goes back a long way and I have asked many, many people over the years. I have a digital clock,...
I have had numerous amplifiers in the past (Nad, Mission, Naim) which had balance controls. Usually when I first started using the amplifier I would fiddle with the balance controls and notice I could do a short cut effect with music dispersal in both speakers, what the whole album of Dark Side of the Moon did, then I would get bored and left the balance controls in the middle position so that sound came out equally from both speakers and that position remained in the same...
Hi everyone. I was wondering if anyone has tried audusa eupen CSA 2.5 power cord on a naim system. I have tried it on a pioneer cd player with nva mono amps. I tried a russ andrews powerkord put i could not hear any difference. So i tried the CSA and I could hear an improvement has anyone tried this cable on a naim system
i know this has been asked before several times in fact, however, what I would like to explore is the options available. AFAIK there are two types available. 1. Proper ones from Tomtom @ £175 2. Pure sound ones on eBay @ £54 I know the latter do not have cut outs at the rear for drivers but still look fairly tidy from what I've seen. Does anyone have pics of the tomtom o Es fitted, as well as a comparisson of the pure sound ones please? And if there are other ones I've omitted please post a...
Hello -- Somewhat of a Naim and Harbeth question: I presently have a pair of Harbeth 30.1, which sound lovely being driven by a SuperNait 2. If I was being picky, some albums can be a little more "bass-ey" than others, but the top - particularly piano and acoustic guitars are absolutely beautiful in their transparency and richness. I'd like to move up to a pair of Harbeth 40.1 speakers. Does anyone have this configuration (SuperNait2 with Harbeth 40.1)? Does the SuperNait2 have enough power...
As highlighted first by Andrew Everard over on the nDAC software thread Naim made its newest firmware update for the nDAC available earlier today ( https://www.naimaudio.com/news/21751/dsd-playback-now-available-naim-dacs ). I thought it...
At present I have a CD5X, NAC202 with a Flatcap2 with a NAP 150X driving KEFQ500's. I have been thinking about getting rid of the CD5X and just going with my Mac Mini using Audirvana as a source for my ripped CD's and some internet radio? What is the general consensus on this type of system? Is it worth to ditch the CD5X and get a set of Credos to upgrade the speakers or should I just power the CD5X off the Flatcap2 for an additional boost in sound quality? A...
Expensive esoteric cables that degrade or introduce interference into the signal, claims from respected engineers that if operating correctly and within their limits all power amps should sound the same, manufacturers manufacturing products that are only recommended for use with their own separates and components together, and commentators commenting that this is better than that without carrying out any meaningful listening tests. My thoughts are, as with most things, there is a little bit...
Moved house over Christmas and now have the opportunity to either put up my Target turntable wall shelf or go for a Fraim /Lite combination. Can anyone offer advice / experience of the better support option for my LP12? I can't directly compare the two and don't want to start drilling wall holes if I end up buying Fraims. LP12 is quite high spec but without a Trampolin btw Many Thanks
Dear forum, I have a Supernait mk1 from 2008 that I'm generally happy with, perhaps a little bit crowded in the middle of the sound stage and not that detailed. As I'm heading towards recapping I thought that maybe I could add a HiCap instead of recapping. Could adding a HiCap replace recapping of the SN? /BR Michael
I'm not in love with my Kudos Super 20s. Until a year ago I owned a voluptuous pair of Ovator S400s which fulfilled my heart's every desire, but the big black beasts were deemed too overweight for a 5x4m living room and so were summarily binned off. I had been whiling away the loveless days sitting by my inbox waiting for news of the inexplicably unannounced Ovator S200s, when my fickle gaze was drawn to the young, upmarket and - frankly hot - Focal...
My present Linn Genki CD player is playing up, jumping seconds and making 'tic' like sounds particularly on the first one or two tracks. Time for a replacement, and having had Naim amps before I am considering the cd5si. It's been around for some time now and I wondered whether anyone has views on when it might be upgraded or replaced. The player will for now be used with a Linn Kolektor preamp and two LK140s. thanks Stuart
New to forum and have some dated naim gear that I'd like to expand and was hoping someone had experience with the following: 1. Setting NAIT3 up for phono w/ a stageline. Would current stageline models be compatible or do I need to find a similar vintage unit? 2. Would a separate power supply be needed or could the NAIT power the stageline? If a separate PS is needed - any recommendations would be great. The speakers are Credos - same vintage as NAIT so system may benefit from an...
Past Upgrades with Naim/Linn Mid Systems! During the last the last three decades, I’ve been pretty busy with hi fi! It started with Son of Ampzilla/Polk Audio, LK 280/Kans, Then LK 280/Briks, Bi Amp Briks, and Finally, Active Tri-Amps Briks with LK 280’s. A Full Blown Linn Aktiv System fronted with a Karin Pre, and Linn XO, with Bingo Card, Nice! The Active System just seemed to have a certain ease the way the music was being delivered, and when called upon the Bass was there. And as it...
No, i havent bought one. But just found out that they are appearing in the x-dem market already, and for what seems a very good price... ! Maybe... enjoy... ken
Hi all Have any of you used any of the tune up, de-mag, burn in discs that are out there at various prices? I ask as I've used one or two of them but, never paid for them as I think I got one free on the fount of HIFI Choice years ago and when I worked in HIFI Retail we had one we used for running in speakers. This is what i think of them: Fantastic for speeding up the bedding in of speakers in a retail envoment, wouldn't want to leave my home HIFI on for that long at high...
Hi all i have just upgraded my SupernaIt to a Supernait 2 but i am not keen on the location of the + and - for the volume control on the new remote and did prefer the central location on the previous remote and wondered if there was a simple (cheap) remote available for just volume control as i am not bothered about the inputs being remote. Really happy with the amp sounds great so far and not yet run in and i am also using my HICAP DR from day 1 Gary
I bought last year my Superunity and from the beginning it very often it goes spontaniously on/off. Yesterday it went on and off every 3 seconds for a period of minutes. Then I switched off the Superuntiy at the backside. Does anybody know what the problem is?
Last week the sound quality from my LP 12 feel apart. This wasn't the first time. From previous experience I knew this was likely to be due to something in the Audiotech wall shelf 'changing' . After removing the deck, careful inspection revealed less than perfect contact at one of the spike-to-platform interfaces. I was able to correct this fairly easily - but proper levelling took a lot longer. There is a discrepancy between how the platform measures, and how the deck does. Anyway, with a...
Later this week I will take receipt of a US Naim dealer's demo Chord Sarum TA IC to go between my CD5XS and 82. I don't have room to add a separate PSU on the 5XS. I don't have room to move from the HC to a SC on the 82. Effectively, other than changing the speakers, or upgrading the CB HC to DR spec, or moving from the 5XS to a CDX2, I am unable to make improvements at this time. I decided against the speaker change as I've only had my active ATC 10s for a year, the HC has been recently...
I know a lot of Naim users love and are already deeply invested in the look of Naim's separates, but myself, personally, I don't like them. IMO, they look very dated, especially the green screens on the superuniti etc. Are there any rumours floating around that they may follow the improved aesthetics of their lifestyle range?
Hello I'm considering a Supernait 2 as I suspect it would be a great match with my speakers (Shahinian Compass). How is it as a headphone amplifier? Any experiences and what headphones are a good match? Thank you Best regards Lars
So I found out after a week that my speaker cable were turned in wrong direction. So now in the right direction, what a difference. Tighter bass and more open treble. But in generel. Can speaker cables turned wrong directon damage your amplifier or speakers?
hi, I really do enjoy looking at the forum, and know there are many members with loads more knowledge and experience than me ... so would appreciate some advice. I have a naim uniti 2 coupled with a unitiserve, feeding speakers up on the wall in my kitchen downstairs. Also now a muso sitting underneath my TV, which works well as a "soundbar" (although the volume needs to be cranked up as discussed elsewhere). a while back i posted about a possible upgrade to my speakers in the kitchen (on...
