Everything I've read compares the 272 and 282 in the context of streaming. How close is a bare 272 to a 282/HCDR for analog playback? Assume that the rest of system would be a fairly nice LP12 and NAP250DR. How are the 272 and 282 similar/different in presentation? Thanks! epike222
I would be interested in suggestions for smallish, bookshelf speakers. This is not for the main system, but something that needs to work in the lounge and will mostly be connected to a Sony Bravia TV as a source or streaming via Airport Express. Both sources will be far from ideal, and I need something that look "inoffensive" (small) and works at lower volumes. I am lucky enough to have saved my old 52/250/Supercap. I also have some very old Linn Kan's (borrowed), but looking for...
Would love to learn how something like the Power-Line upgrade can help the system sound better. I can totally understand how a SuperCap, HiCap or other power unit helps by cleaning up (processing) the current and ensuring it is stable enough, clean, etc.) but I would have thought that whatever feeds the SuperCap is not important. In other words, what use it is adding a 2 meter Power-Line power chord that would in the end connect to a power socket which is not audio-grade, that in turn is...
hi i want to update my v1 dac to dsd. how to do it right? thank you
I naively used to assume that the NAC A5 are perfect... Just got the speaker cables and could not believe that cables could make this difference. Clearly these cables need a good warm up and run-in before they are going to approach their optimum sound and I have been told that it takes one week for them to really start to disappear behind the music. Yet from the off with only day’s warm up this upgrade delivered a more musical result than the majority of others. The system now creates an...
Dear knowledgeable minds, At the moment I'm using a NaimDAC, which might be replaced with a Chord 2Qute or preferably Hugo TT (all depends on the outcome of the next NaimDAC firmware update). In terms of interconnections...
hi folks, I've tried to follow some old threads about ground loops etc. I am not very savvy with electronics and have managed to confuse myself. I am using a Supernait mk 1 and the connections are a Chord 2QUTE DAC and a receiver wired through the AV Bypass. The dac and receiver are connected to a mains conditioner with three pronged plugs. I don't have anything connected to the signal ground. My question is from a safety perspective, is this set up ok? Or am I supposed to connect the signal...
I've decided to get a 4 level Quadraspire SVT bamboo rack with a bronze upgrade for my new Naim/Wilson system. This simple set up with have 4 places for gear. On the top will go my LP12, then I have 3 spaces below for my gear. I'm looking for advice on the best order of components that will have little or no impact on the Radikal since I read that the Radikal prefers to be further away from Naim amps. Should put my NAP250 on the shelf below the LP-12, then my NAC N272, then my Radikal?
Hello to everybody. I am trying to power a NAIM Superline phono stage with an extra Hicap-DR. I also have another Hicap-DR connected to a Naim NAIT XS. Is it possible this combination? I tried the connections in that way: NAIM NAIT XS --------------> NAIM HICAP nº1 (Pre amp out / Power amp in) SNAIC 5to5 and SNAIC 4to4 (Sockets 3 and 4) NAIM SUPERLINE -----------------------> NAIM HICAP nº2 -------------------------------> NAIM NAIT XS SNAIC 5to5 (socket 4) NAIM cable 4to5 (Tuner...
What exactly is DSP? (I know what the acronym stands for) now I'm someone for whom "packets" are what I used to smoke and TCP an antiseptic so please keep it simple.
Need to power down my rack (electrical works in the neighborhood will result in 5-6 hours of no electricity to the house), curious how long does it take the system to go back to warm up fully to "working temperature" and stabilize? one day, two days? a week? Since setting up the system a couple of months back I never powered it down :) my local Naim expert believes it will take it a 2-3 weeks to go back to its full potential, sounds kind of steep for me. Thoughts? ...
Hi all Concertos users, I searched for some suitable gear for my Sonus Faber Concerto Home speakers. I can point main issues from Concertos both professional and user reviews: amp 2x70W minimum, amp 2x100W optimum, to avoid MID-FI, good match...
I am just waiting delivery on a new Nait XS2 amp to replace my ageing Nait 5. After a few weeks, probably in the new year I am thinking of getting the Flatcap2 power supply. My main source is a Rega TT with a Bias 2 cartridge and Rega Mk2 ELA speakers. All in a room 18'x12'. What will the flatcap bring to the music in that setup. A better soundstage, wider etc. Thanks for any advice. Seasons Greetings.
Is a masterpiece of an amplifier.
hi all, yesterday we had a harbeth demo at my dealer with the full range of harbeth speakers, especially the new 40.2. Other components were croft amplifiers and vpi prime with goldenote machiavelli and kondo and tellurium cables. wow, the big ones...
hello. those last days, among other things to solve, i got my hands over a serious looking and designed power cable, namely the highest ranking in their (rather) new PerfectWave series AC series power chords. i got the 2m version, which actually looks and feels very, very massive and well build, i mean it actually gives you confidence that someone actually has thought that a high-end cable, especially when costs some 4 figure buks, should also look the price tag suggests... while i will not...
Not sure if this is the place to put this post. However I have an odd thing going on. I am using the digital out (coax) of my Marantz UD7007 when playing CD's and connected it to the digital input 2 of my 272. When playing cd's I hear a constant squeaking (is that a correct word?) through the music as if I am playing a bad vinyl album. I tried another digital input of the 272, no change. Changed coax cable, no change. Marantz has no earth, it is double shielded. What could be the problem?
Hello, I have DAC v1 for 8 months , and i have the next situation: for the past few days i saw the dispaly became little bit darker on the top front(first 2 lines), and the unit automatically mute, sometimes it takes longer till first automatically mute but after first auto mute it become intermittent . I tried reset, update firmware to 1.16, stop/start, push logo for unmute, unmute from remote control...same situation every time. I use as sources toslink (TV) and mac mini (USB); the...
Hi forum. Having upgraded to a Nap 200,Nac 202 Hicap & Napsc, I am thinking ofof replacing my intro 2speakers ,to a set of sbl MK2 speaker's. Would a Nap 200 be a worthy amp to drive sbl's, and how much of a sound qualityincrease should be present?. Regard's Pieman
The new release of the firmware is 1.16 for the DAC-V1, the old firmware was 1.6.... With my logic (not an expert) I would have expected the firmware version to increment towards a larger number (i.e. from 1.6 to 1.8 or 2.0)... Not sure how Naim looks at this numbering format... Also curious whether or not the current 1.16 indicates more room for improvement beyond bug fixes. Regardless, I am pretty happy with the fact that my investment in Naim is being maximized with the new releases. Well...
Hi Can anybody tell me if how difficult it would be to a replace a base driver on one of my N-Sat speakers. Would I also be correct in saying you only have to replace the faulty unit and not both. Have to mention Im still very surprised the speaker is showing signs of being faulty considering it has never been driven to anything above a very low level so is it possible something has come loose. Advice again would be appreciated.
Such an undignified question, but anyway. I have bought a 250, and will look at a TT, for my office system. People come and go from the office and a decorative plate in the waiting room was stolen a year ago. Any ideas? I can drill a hole in the concrete floor and put in a Dynabolt or two. I can also drill holes in unobtrusive places in my desk. I wonder if clamping a Naim amp would affect the sound? Thanks in advance for your help. As I noted in an earlier post, people seem to be a...
A friend came last night to share some music, and brought his torque wrench along. When we checked my SBLs' woofers' bolts, they were all at least one or two full turns loose. This surprised me a little, because the sound was splendid - since I have cabled everything with Vertere (IC, snaics, speaker cable) it has gained bass, layers, dynamics and immediacy. Roberto set the torque and fixed the bolts to 3.6. Well, it changed. This won't surprise many, because I know that some will...
You guys are incredibly helpful - thanks for comments on recapping - as I set my system back up after opening the cases, I thought I would mess around with the placement of components. Earlier, I had all the half boxes in a stack. How does...
In a previous post, Huge made the following comment about my listening room: ''3/4" air gap between drywall panels will definitely cause problems. This will produce a resonant membrane / air compression chamber system between the two...
