Here's an ND555 post that's not about the ND555 ... So, all those lucky chaps (and chapesses) who's ND555 has arrived (and there must be quite a few by now), have been happily talking to their new aquisition via the Naim app, right so far? But has anyone noticed how horrible this brand new, impressive, metal bodied handset is to use? Some clever, well intentioned designer, I suspect, has looked at the R-Com remote, with its posh metal body and its clever backlit buttons that light up when...
hi Guys If using a Hicap on a Supernait2, I am right in thinking the hicap then powers the preamp and the existing power supply powers the internal amp only, is this correct? thanks
Stone cold out of the box, but wow, just wow. A case where the sequel is better than the original. Will update more as it runs in.
Recently, I had my Uniti 1, the original Uniti which I've had from new, upgraded with the 24-bit DAC and I had the display panel replaced as it was not functioning. I use it with a second hand NAP200 and I've been very pleased with these for some years now. I now have the opportunity to change the NAP200 for a second hand NAP250DR via a dealer. I've heard the 250DR before, and I love the absolute clarity and power of this amp - it sounds simply exquisite! I'm also getting a stageline phone...
Out of sheer boredom being stuck at home and still looking for a second system for the spare room tomorrow I'm going to look at CDX5 72/HC/Bolt Down 250 SBL's with all cables and long lengths of Nac A5 With a view to buying it as a job lot using what I like and moving the rest on. I won't need the CD5X but it will be nice to hear it with a Hicap before moving it on I'm going to trial the 72 against my 102 both with the 180 and the 250. I'm curious to hear what an early Bolt Down 250 sounds...
I saw this announcement from Chord: https://www.chord.co.uk/product/signature-reference-speaker-cable/ I have the original signature cables, and was considering putting the new speaker pluggs on my cables, since rumers are saying it is a worthwhile upgrade. However it will be really interesting to hear how much better these nnew Signature cables are, even though they are not using Taylon, but something that may be close to the Taylon performance. Of course after spending a lot on Ansuz...
Hum sound coming out from my speaker when connecting my streamer nt 505 to supernait 2. I have an rca connection coming from an avr too but did not cause any hum. All my wall power source is using the 13 amp 3 pin plug. Even the source, streamer teac nt-505 power chord replaced with naim powerlite. I have tried connecting the din cable to otjer input on the supernait2 but the hum is still there. The hum got louder as i increase the volume. Kindly advise
My local dealer has an ex-dem 5m pair of SL speaker cables for sale, so I thought I'd give them a try in place of the trusty A5. Were the SL cables better? Yup. Were they worth the money? Nope. A5 stays. So now I can keep on saving for when the 372 is launched
Hi guys Planning a speaker upgrade. My room is not overly large at 3.5m by 5m and my system configuration only allows me to fire across the 3.5m length. Just after an opinion with those room dimensions if I should be mainly looking at stand mounts as opposed to floorstanders? system is NDX/Supernait2 yes I will audition when ready but would like to do some initial research. cheers
So have John Watson released a new product product in the Mana serie :-) He has named it Sound Clamp. I have just installed it with my NAC52 and will now let my Naim equipment warm up.
hi been trying a AudioQuest Niagara 5000 low-Z Power Noise-Disapation system on my all Naim black boxes over the last week propley get a lot of stick for this but it really does work top end goes higher mid is smother and bass is really tight they do 3 models the 1000, 5000, or 7000, well worth giving it a try. find I can turn the volume to 11 to 12 where I usually don’t go much pass 9.
I got a new NAP 250 about a month ago, and here are my impressions so far. Overall I am very happy with it. I think it is improving as it runs in, but it is difficult to tell because I don't trust the memory of what it was like when I got it. But I THINK it is getting better all the time! There is a nice wide soundstage. There is good solid & stable positioning of elements within the soundstage - I find I am looking at different positions depending on what's playing in a song. The...
Hi Guys A couple of times now, for a couple of different reasons I have had to pull the plug on my NDX and Supernait2. Each time I have done this, things (to my ears) certainly seem to improve. Is this my mind playing tricks on me, or is there any logic behind this? Cheers Popeye
I'm looking for a new source for my Nac72>Hicap>NAP180>SBLs which in time may go active and am torn between the convenience and possible future proofing of Innuos Zen with a Chord Qutest Dac but for a similar amount of investment a 2 year CDX2 is a possibility Has anyone tried these two sources side by side and can give an opinion of the quality of sound quality please as this is my primary focus?
1. why do amplifiers produce lower fidelity electrical signals over the years? 2. why do power amps degrade around twice as fast as pre-amps? 3. what elements of this material degradation do amp services fix or improve, what do they not fix, and how many services should one perform before breaking up an amp for parts?
Hi could anyone advice me if naim goes well with monitor audio silver 300 plz ,iam using a rega elex r at the moment but I feel iam not getting the best out of my monitor audio , I've been offered nac 202 and a nap 200 at a real good price would this be a good upgrade your thoughts would be much appreciated thanks aceone.
I’m in the very fortunate position of being able to build a new listening room in an existing courtyard space. I’ll be using the 3 existing walls as the basis for it and then adding a fourth wall and a flat roof. This enables me to build a new room with just the width dimension predetermined (circa 4 metres). I am then free to choose the other dimensions up to a maximum of 5.5m length and 3.0m height. What I need to know are the best dimensions to choose for ideal acoustics. A quick internet...
Hi All Following a bit of good timing, I'm shortly to become the new owner of a pre-loved pair of SL2s. I'm picking them up this coming weekend. I've read the thread of set-up tips from Richard D. et al, and whilst I'm happy to give it a go, it's a bit daunting. I'd like to explore another avenue - getting someone to come in to help me with the set-up. This could be a dealer or an experienced individual. Obviously, this is likely to be a service I pay for, and I'm happy to do so, but the...
Folks, I'm after some advice. Firstly, Richard, I am seeking a dealer in Paris where I might listen to a system identical or close-ish to that which I already have. I realise under forum rules this may well be forbidden-as a dealer favouritism. If so, I apologise and please don't post this. I am in the fortunate position of starting to design and build a new home in France. A lounge/listening room to site the Naim/Focal boxes is very much part of the design remit to the architect. His...
I managed to pick one of these remarkable machines up a couple of weeks ago (the company announced it was getting out of the BD player business back in April), and now that it's had around 50 hours' burn in time (200 are apparently needed for optimum SQ), I thought I would share some impressions with you... First of all, a bit of background. A mate, who's a home cinema buff, bought one of these last year. I was very impressed with the picture and sound quality and when he went on holiday...
I've found my proper listening time really restricted in recent years: I work a longish day. Have a decent sized commute by train and bike. Am pretty busy at weekends with family and friends. My wife prefers to relax in front of the TV rather than listen to music. So my listening time tends to be late at night when playing at a satisfying volume leads to domestic conflict! The other night I resorted to headphones. I have a pair of Sony XBA 4s which are pretty decent in-ear phones (well...
Recently I bought a new SN2 and it failed when I brought it home. There were loud popping and cracking sound on one channel even without any source plugged in, just speakers wired. Unit has been RMA and I was given options to change for other items (nova) or another new SN2. According to dealer, the unit I bought suspected to have leaking capacitors or something. Am I the only one here who faced this issue? Had always regard Naim equipment as reliable electronics. I knew it is an old model...
If I had a budget of say £300 to spend, would I be better spending the whole amount on headphones and plugging them straight in to my 172 or would it be better SQ wise to split the budget between the headphones and a headphone amp?
Just wondering if anyone has yet had a chance to see how the NDX2/555PS fairs against the n-DAC/555PS. We had a glorious naim event here in Perth, Australia, with Daniel (naim export/overseas manager) from naim HQ and the Australiasian importer Chris Murphy with the NDX2 on demo. They could only pair the NDX2 with a XPS2 and A>B with the 272 internal DAC at the naim dealer. It did sound so very fast and clean (unfortunately only with the 272 DAC as referance point for comparison ). I was...
Can anyone inform what the power on and power off sequence is, when running a Nova as a preamp and 250 as power amp. Also, what should the volume settings be set at in the app? I seem to remember Richard posting about this, but I cannot find the posting. Thank you.
