Hello, I recently picked up a Linn Krystal that I have mounted on my on a EKOS SE on a full Akurate Lp-12(except the arm)into a fully rf modded Prefix K powered by my NAC52/52 PS/NAP135's/SBL's. The Prefix and NAC52 were both redone by Chris West. Linn recommends loading the Krystal at 100r which is significantly lower than the 560r of the prefix. I replaced the loading resistors of my prefix with 100r z-foils and the combination is very nice. Has anyone else tried this? If not, how do...
I am having a bit of trouble setting up my new cartridge - Ortofon Quintet Black. I had one previous that tracked perfect with no distortion however it came to a sad end when I knocked it with my finger and the stylus pinging off! I replaced with with a new one making no adjustments other than alignment when fixing it to the head shell. I noticed strsight away on my favourite record some distortion, only on certain passages.. I quickly checked everything: Alignment, SRA, azimuth - all fine.
This question is not about the perennial topic of transformer hum caused usually by DC on the mains, but more fundamental, and for people with technical knowledge out there: Why does Naim use toroidal transformers in their separate power supplies? I do not have great knowledge of different transformer designs, though I have long been aware that toroidals have a significant advantage of reduced stray field compared to E-I transformers, particularly relevant when in close proximity to...
great to see the SH price of the great NDS seems to be £4995 now the 555 and NX2 are reaching dealers. add a used 555ps at about £4500 and you have a great source for £9500 or 2 ps 555 you have a amazing source for £14000.
Does anyone have any experience with this phono stage? I'm currently running my LP12 Akurate level (so with the Krystal MC cartridge) into a Rega Fono MC connected to Naim NAP200/NAC202/NAPSC. The Rega Fono stage does very well considering the price but it was always my intention to upgrade it. An obvious choice would be the Linn Uphorik, but that's also an expensive choice. I've owned Moon electronics before and was pleased with both the sound and the build quality. I may perhaps be able to...
I sometimes get a slight build up of earwax. Does anyone know if this impairs my hifi appreciation? Should we follow a cleaning regimen (no cotton buds, nothing in your ear smaller than your elbow I believe the advice currently is - though this seems to me a difficult contortion). Would spending the occasional £5 on olive oil for ears and a cheap dropper be a better investment than an expensive speaker wire upgrade?
My Nova has started popping my speakers when switching on. This didn't ever happen before - has anyone else had an issue? Volume on start is about 10%.
I'm having a radial installed soon. I want to make use of a cable channel already running to an existing wall socket that's already in a suitable place near the hifi. The cable for this household circuit section runs to the wall socket from my fusebox though I don't know exactly what route but obviously at the end it's behind the wall's plaster. When the electrician comes he'll trace its route. I'd much prefer to use this channel for the new radial. If advisable and if possible with the...
Classic system of NAC 72, Hi-Cap (multiple), Paxo/Naxo, SBLs, olive 250 x 2. Primary sources - cirkus LP12/Ekos/Lingo/Linto/OC-9 II / Nova. Speakers - SBLs active or passive, or currently Epos ES 14s which I've always loved and remain superb with better bass extension than the SBLs ever had as far I can recall. Ignoring the Nova I've posted about mostly, though mainly played via newest olive 250, there are too many options to contemplate, without infinite financial resources . Majority of...
. . . a laptop with headphone jack or USB connections to a Naim amplifier, specifically a NAC 82. I occasionally like to listen to new albums or artists on Spotify and it would be nice to play these through my amp to main speakers rather than using headphones direct into the laptop.
Posted thoughts on NDX2 thread, but thought this was worth it’s on post Spent 4 hours at [@mention:1566878603906177] yesterday – the main focus was all things LP12 with some other forum members However, I did arrive slightly earlier than I had planned so went in to the other demo room to listen again to the NDX2 having heard it a week before at the ND 555 launch NDX2 was like listening to different equipment – focus and soundstage we deeper and more focused Played the same track I a choose...
Hi Just wanted to check the way I have my amp set up is correct. I have the HiCap connected to mains, then NAC 72 powered from HiCAP but NAP 140 connected directly to mains. I assume I shouldn’t Be powering Nap 140 from the HiCAP too ? Many thanks
The rear of my system table has always looked similar to Spaghetti Junction - probably like most of you . It's so difficult to keep all those cables tidy and not touching each other. Also, there were so many plugs - four standard plugs into a cheap power distribution block, then into one wall socket. After too many years, I decided to sort it out a bit, and the ideal solution seemed to be a Graham's Hydra. Perfect for tidying things up I thought, but I didn't take any notice of the positive...
Bloody hell, something of a bargain I think. I'm currently in the midst of figuring out what classic olive gear to keep vs upgrading to similar/better pre/power amps or possibly upgrading my LP12 to more recent specs. My Nova has provided great service for around a year, though admittedly I far prefer the audio of an earlier firmware version with every combination of ancillary equipment, old or recent I've tried. I may be in the minority but it's consistently reproducible. (Just to add I've...
A few months ago I had built the system of my dreams, utilising many black boxes, much racking and so many cables that i struggled to keep things neat and tidy but found I was enjoying the music, but not spending as much time as i would have liked just listening rather than the normal day to day, looking after the kids or tidying the endless devastation they leave behind them so sold everything with the intention of listening to music on my trusty Shure headphones, fed from my Macbook or...
Nait XS Flatcap xs just a quick question... should I connect the output of the rega phonoamp into the AV input of the Nait XS with a red coloured Chord Phono to DIN lead - the DIN plug will fit into this but not Aux 2 ( is there control of the sensitivity of this?) or phono to phono (audioquest I think) to the Aux input on the Nait? thanks!
Greetings all! I have recently moved to a new build flat and finally got round to setting my system up. I appear to have a low-pitch hum which is audible even with the volume at zero. Crank ot up halfway on the 200/282 and its louder with hiss joining the party as well. Is this normal? I didn't notice it before in my old place. I am using a double socket with a hydra cable for the Naim kit and a Russ Andrews XBlock for tv, router, playstation and LP12 on the other socket. There are no pops...
Hi all Just after some thoughts from you lucky lot who own mesmerizing systems. I consider myself to have a nice sounding setup consisting of a NDX/Supernait2. I have never been to a Hifi show or heard anything really special like 555 region. I struggle to comprehend just how much better things can get over my modest setup. Obviously, I know they can and do but I am interested in the differences. Does one have to really listen to the differences or are they night and day at first glance?
My system has sat on an old Quadraspire rack for years. The lowest shelves are behind nice simple doors that makes the whole thing look neat and unobtrusive. The top two shelves are open. I could do with a slightly taller rack, and also it is getting a bit tatty but so far I cannot find any of the usual suspects that make a HiFi rack with doors. Quadraspire certainly don't appear to anymore. Any ideas? Bruce
Hello. As anyone tried connecting a powerline to a blu-ray player. I am thinking if there would be any benefit to the blu-ray picture, if not i would probably guess the audio would gain some benefit. Whats your verdict. Thanks
Hello, I connected my flatcap xs to a naim nait xs amplifier with the 240 degree snaic power cable as shown in the manual with the amplifier but when i play my naim CD5XS cd player im not getting any sound. Do I also have to use a 180 degree din cable to go from the flatcap to the nait xs amplifier as shown here https://www.manualslib.com/man...rnait-2.html?page=15 thanks
Hi any member heard the NDX2 with PS555 yet if yes what were your impressions.
Recently bought Spendor D7s thinking I had now reached Nirvana for my system. They replace my B&W704s so I have to get used to the bigger punch and clarity especially upper mid range. However I have a PROBLEM listening to orchestral sounds of intense strings ( as in Sibelius) and brass ( Rachmaninov) for example. The sound is very 'solid' and misses the feel of violin's (etc) gut on wood, that warm sweetness that is evident in live concerts. Sound is softer with DAB radio source and DVD...
Hello all, It's been a while since I have posted. I recently moved and am using this opportunity to make some possible system changes. I currently have the following: 202/Hicap//250//nDac// Linn Majik 140 spkrs 1. I'll be changing the speakers to some Spendors. ( I loved my linns. I'm more of a music and soundstage guy vs detail and accuracy. ) 2. I'll be demoing a ND5 XS2 when it's out.. with and without my Dac, vs the higher end streamers. 3. I'm thinking about a Core. 4. Lastly, dealer is...
Asking for a friend. Is there any news out there that the 272 will be updated to bring it in line with the other current streamers like the Nova or ND 555 or NDX2?
