My Uniti Star currently sits on a fairly solid, oak cabinet and sounds pretty good playing through Kudos C20s. As the Wife has ruled out replacing the cabinet with a dedicated rack on aesthetic grounds and I feel a Fraim would be a bit over the top with my modest setup, I’ve been looking at isolation platforms to sit betwixt Uniti and cabinet. I’ve tried a cheap-ish acrylic / sorbothane solution but found that (1) it had little or no effect sonically and (2) due to the uneven weight...

Having just bought a Naim Nova I understand that it needs running in for a considerable time, I set it up yesterday and this morning, it’s already sounding better after having it on all night. The question is how/why does it make such a difference when there are no moving parts, is it heat related? I have always found this makes a huge difference with Naim equipment. Nick

My SN1 has developed a bad habit. I run a SPDIF from my TV to a digital input on the amp that is mapped to a selector button as usual. What happens is that over about 10 or 15 minutes, the SQ deteriorates and becomes scratchy like a poor connection somewhere. Switching to a different input, then back to the offending one clears it up instantly, but after 10 to 15 minutes, there it is again. Is the input switching on a SN1 fully solid state or are there relays? Any ideas? Time for a service?

Hi, I’m new to Naim and this forum. I am having difficulty identifying a remote unit I have been given and wonder if anyone can shed any light on it for me please. It must be a CD remote although the CD player isn’t in the equipment that came my way. I have searched high and low on the internet but it doesn’t look like any of the Naim remotes I’ve seen. https://www.flickr.com/photos/160293571@N05/43310946315 Would anyone be able to tell me what the remote is actually called (if it has a...

When buying hifi if the best sounding system you could afford meant having multiple boxes and physical media on show in your living room would you compromise on SQ to keep your room more aesthetically pleasing? If you are lucky enough to have a dedicated listening room or all of your boxes and records or cd's tucked away somewhere this doesn't really apply I'm talking about those of us that live in smaller houses and flats (apartments). I'm very lucky in that my other half is a music lover...

Hi. Current system is vinyl only, and consists of: LP12/Radikal/Ittok/Adikt - soon to be upgraded with Kore. NAC72/Hicap (CB)/NAP250 (CB) - all owned from new and serviced approximately 5/6 years ago. SBL Mk2 I am happy with the musicality of the above system but would like to get more detail from my LPs whilst maintaining the musical enjoyment. I have heard various demos which include classic series amps so I believe they are capable of providing what I'm looking for. I am considering my...

Chaps - Does anyone know if the later Nait 2 amps with the CD input (as opposed to the Aux input) had a lower sensitivity input or is it still the standard 75mV input ? I know it was possible to get the 328 boards for the Pre-amps of that era which gave 375mV sensitivity for better volume control range with CD, so wondered if the CD input Nait 2 was any different to standard. Fraim: Top Shelf ND555, 252, 250, SC-DR and 555DR. I'm thinking that the first two are right, not sure about the last three.

I just boxed up all my analog Naim gear, for recap and DR service: NAP250-2, NAC282 + NAPSC, and HiCap2. I'm told it will be 6-8 weeks +- before I see it all again. When it comes back I might add a second HiCap DR (SuperCap DR is out of my range). Waste of money or good use of it? Just about all my listening is pure analog, acoustic music on vinyl: classical and jazz. I have a ND5-XS but rarely use it (maybe more in the future). After that no more upgrades. I retire in about 5 years, and...

Hello, can anyone help me with what the pin out pattern is for the 4 pin din pre-amp output on a Superuniti please? I have found images of the back of other naim products which show the pin outs identified, but none for the SU. Would I be right in thinking that all Naim 4 pin pre amp outs follow the same pattern? My understanding is, going clock wise from the locating notch at 12 oclock: 'ch1', 'nc', '-ve', then 'ch2' I would appreciate your knowledgeable assistance.

Hi Guys, Looking for a bit of advise please (excuse my ignorance) but I've just brought a second hand Chord Hugo TT and waiting for delivery but I want to order some leads so I can get up and running asap, will the standard leads that come with the TT allow me to connect my Naim CD5 xs upto the TT (BNC to BNC digital coax) and then a set of leads RCA to RCA to connect TT to my 152xs pre-amp. 1) Am I correct in thinking I need a BNC to BNC digital coax lead and a set of RCA to RCA?? 2) If the...

Hello Experts Can some one advice, how much of a difference it would make to connect a CD player to my Nova as oppose to using Samsung Bluray player in terms of SQ? I mostly play music from NAS or Tidal, but also like to use CD's once in a while. Question is should i continue with the samsung bluray player which i have or should invest in a CD player, if so which should i consider. HifiNewbie

Hello, There is a simple truth I’ve been thinking about for some time and wanted to share: no matter how good your HiFi system is, your hearing experience will always be limited by the listening room acoustics. I changed my system a few months ago to nDAC/555PS-DR/252DR/300DR into very nice, and quite revealing, JMR Abscisse speakers. I wasn’t totally satisfied with the sound quality. Everything was well set: speakers placement, cables dressing etc. I clearly knew where the problem was but…...

Can I use the above cable to connect the RCA pre outputs of an Oppo 203 to a NAP200 (for “direct” amplification of the 2 surround back channels)? If not, what cable would I use? Thx

I just got myself an entry level LP12 Majik, which Pro-Ject 9cc tonearm with Adikt MM cartridge, no upgrade done. Running it through latest phono amp from Lenjonklou, Gaio 2. After testing this deck A-B compares to my NDX(without external PS). It seems the NDX has way more authoritative and weight compared to my LP12, which disappoints me greatly. I wonder does I need to upgrade the tone-arm and cartridge to bring the LP12 closer to my NDX?

just picked up new552 and got nearly fun refund on my 252/super cap paid 17000 for 552 less my 252/supercap so £8000 is what I paid left it running since lunchtime and at 6pm am just sitting down to have a listen first very quick impressions top end is so much detail mid and bottom end gel in so well together with ND555 knowing Naim black boxes I expect it will turn out to be a great leap in SQ once it has a few weeks of 24/7 playing behind it ( I will not be going anywhere near my dealer to...

I don't post here much, mainly because I don't upgrade very often - probably because I spend most of my disposable income on music (I post in the music room a fair amount). The system is as per the subject line. The DAC-V1 is gets a digital signal up its USB port from a dedicated music server running Daphile. The boxes are on an Atacama rack and the speakers are on Atacama stands (ones with 3 pillars - one pillar is bigger diameter than the others and is full of the weight material). Speaker...

Hi, So I’ve had this modest setup for a few years and this evening I have to say it just sounds fine to my ears. Are there any other satisfied. 200/HiCap/200 users? Or must we aspire to 252/SuperCap/300? Tongue in cheek tho ;-) Regards Shaun

Hello, someone asks me if it is possible to connect a superuniti to a nap 300dr. As i am selling the last, i want to give a confident response to this person. My dealer is on holidays. Is it necessary to have a special cable to connect both, like made in order by chord? thanks

I want to move my system to another room currently using 4.0m lengths of NAC A5 speaker cable, Because of positioning in the new room it is not really an option to do this as i need something far more flexible and shorter so i was hoping to use 2 x 1.0m lengths of TQ BLACK 2 speaker cable My power amplifier is a NAP 140 are there any issues with this due to a different cable and much shorter length than the recognised 3.5 metre lengths i constantly read about ?

I have finally made up my mind and decided to keep the 102/180in place of the 282/300. This isn't out of any real preference for one over the other as they both sound fantastic but just because I could easily live with both and obviously one is much, much more expensive than the other. I have just bought a used Olive Hicap to power the 102 and am on the lookout for an Olive Napsc to replace the black box one. I will then own an amp I am very, very happy with and have no desire to change. I...

I've got a PL on loan from my dealer. He knows I'm a bit of sceptic ???? As per his advice I've put it on the Hicap first and then maybe try it on the nDAC. Me and the missus played a couple of tracks with my standard mains lead, swapped and then played the same tracks again. Well we were gobsmacked! It's a kettle lead for Pete's sake???? I was expecting zero change or something so subtle that you'd have to keep swapping back and forth to detect anything. We did A-B and we were done, no doubts..
