Thanks to James and Henry of Tom Tom Audio, my ND555 has just been installed and sounds fantastic straight out of the box! We're just leaving it for an hour over lunch before settling down to a proper listening session. Pictures of the install will follow... Dave

I’m moving my system to a smaller room. I’ve been using 282/HC/250dr with Neat Momentums for quite a while now and thinking about an LS3/5a type option as so many of the recommended mini monitors seem to be transmission line designs to maximise bass. i find closed boxes less boomy especially in smaller rooms. There seem to be so many brands and variations of the LS3/5 I would be interested to hear opinions of how well matched to the 250dr they might be?

I just updated my profile, but the recent change is from nac 202 to nac282. Tremendous difference (improvement). My speakers are located in a happy compromise between optimum and room friendly. I will (probably) not be moving the speakers, but was wondering if the change to 282 would warrant moving them . Would like to hear from anyone that has made such a change and if speaker movement was or was not needed (or at least useful).

..For my 272 on the end of a 250DR. Got it for a really good price, the seller was gracious enough to even accept a pretty low offer after assuring him the unit will be much loved (I hope) and flipping it is out of the question. Due to moving countries and houses, I wont be able to have a listen to the system for at least another couple of months as it sits in boxes at the moment. But that's not a reason why you shouldn't comment on what kind of treat I'm gonna be in for.

Completely disassembled by equipment yesterday and will clean and reassemble today. I mainly want to move the brawn over to the right stack as it was on the left. System: NAC 272, PS555 DR,Nap 300DR. Rega TT with a small Rega phono stage unit. I have 2 Fraim bases, 2 small and 2 medium height Fraim shelves. I decided that I won't use the clear plastic stabilizers on the Fraim glass shelves unless otherwise recommended perhaps top 2 shelves. I would like to keep the SXPS Burndy off the ground...

I've just got some NACA5 and I want to cable tie it to one of the metal legs on my speaker stand so it comes to the floor neatly. I have seen the threads where you avoid inductance by making jumping jack shapes with the spare, and I was wondering if there might be any inductance or capacitance or other problems by cable tying it to the stand leg. As I said in another thread, this is my first experience with NACA5. People weren't joking when they said it was stiff! It was like fighting an...

Need advise on a second system for the office. Looking at one of the “all in one” players with bookshelf speakers. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Office is long and narrow.

My first post here. I currently own a NAP100 to use with an old pair of EPOS ELS-303 and looking to upgrade my speakers. I've auditioned other speakers around the A4 range price (USD 2500) from Epos, Dali and KEF already and I found the Spendors are the best suited so far. Just wondering if there's other brand of floorstanders I could miss out before pulling the trigger.

Well let's settle the easy question... Yes, I'm a little crazy. Having got that out of the way, this new format - BSCD2 (Blu-spec CD or Phase Transition Mastering) has been around since 2012, but I had never heard of it, let alone tried it. Here's what Wikipedia says about it (I send them a fiver every year so I don't feel guilty quoting from them): "Its name derives from the similar manufacturing process to that used to create Blu-ray Discs . Instead of a traditional infra-red laser, a blue...

Hi all I have a nac 62 peered with a nap 90 these were bought in the early eights in New Zealand. My problem is I took my system into the agent to have it serviced. It has never missed a beet and never been looked at the conector cable did need looking at it was still working just needed to have some shrink wrap on it but this was not done . Was advised to recap system,I asked for quote on job never got one but they still recaped my system. .I had the system back for about two days then the...

A bit of an odd request, but could any S600 owners (or anyone else for that matter) let me know what the max cabinet width is. The specs say the width of the speaker is 401mm, but I’m assuming this includes the metal base - which (from the images I’ve seen) appear to protrude c50mm either side.

am considering buying one of these for my 272/250DR combination..... should I budget for a recap in my purchase price? And is that about £1k? thanks.....

My dealer say's it's definitely source, but I've heard it mentioned on our forum, that the preamplifier is equally as important, followed by speakers. Short of actually demoing it, I have my mind set on the new NDX 2, but have mixed emotions on amplification and power supplies that will go with it. Yes, it is my ears that will decide. It was mentioned to me yesterday, that dressing the NAC-N 272 with a 555 PS DR, and a 300 DR, will blow away the NDX, 250/282/HiCap, the system I had short...

With the current heat wave hitting much of the UK and many parts of the northern hemisphere, I have noticed my Naim amp, notably my 250.2 is getting rather warm to the touch even when working just moderately hard ... but interestingly I have noticed the balance of the sound has changed . with it becoming slightly richer and more fuller sounding . most noticeable on some older thinner recordings... now I concede this could be because of 101 things, and so yes it might be nothing to do with...

Hi. Just wondered like myself started their hi fi journey with these beauties, back in the seventies they were all the go. However looking back what a crazy speaker, not to mention the mad speaker stand they used. I thought they were the goods hooked up to a accuphase pre & power amp 200 watts each side. When I discovered Naim amps I powered the gales with a 160 and 12 s, which I remember delivered a more powerful sound and which was very easy to listen too, compared with the rock hard...

Down at the lowly end of things I'm afraid! Looking at spending just a few hundred £ on a preamp, to feed my NAP150. Currently it's fed direct from an audiolab M-Dac+ which is great for computer based source, but less than ideal for anything else. Not planning to change my NAP150 at this point, just add in a preamp. A quick trawl on ebay is showing some interesting options: Nac62 at £275 Nac 102 at £399 Nac72 at £450 Nac152Xs at £550 The 152 has the tenuous advantage of more phono inputs so...

it was a bit of a leap of faith, but blown away. The iOS app interface is exemplary. The rip quality brings out a subtlety I never had from ripping to my iMac. A good move, to be sure.

Hi. I have held off making comments regarding these great speakers, however the rolled off comments make my blood boil. The design and use of the bmr to cover mids and top is brilliant idea, the way Naim have suspended the bmr within the cabinet is ground breaking. I have a pair of S400 previously isobariks on the end of cds3 252 p300 all on fraim, power lines etc. I can only sum up by saying these are great speakers and great value for money, rolled off at the top. nonsense thanks Stevek

I have seen adverts from 2 Naim dealers, one listing 'Super Lumina DIN to RCA', the other listing 'Super Lumina RCA to DIN'. Are these listings for 2 different cables? Please can anyone confirm if the Super Lumina cables with 5 pin DIN at one end and RCA at the other end are DIRECTIONAL or wired in such a way that they cannot be reversed? Would the pins need to be different for the purpose of connecting a DIN output TO an RCA input? The REASON I am asking is that I have been offered some...

Any advice please on what to start off with Naim Audio. I live in country Australia and don’t have the luxury of a local dealer. I am considering:- NAP 250 DR with a NAC-N-272 or NAP 250 DR - NAC 202 - ND5 XS 2 Would there be quite a difference in sound quality between the two? thanks, Steve

I have been active for some years and always thought it could not be bettered! However I have changed from SBL's to Focal Kante no2's. These are a passive speaker so in order to make the change I have changed the 2 x 250 amps to a 300dr and ditch the snaxo crossover and hi cap. Well these speakers are quite simply stunning! Bass is amazing hence ditching the sub. The soundstage, imaging and overall sound is just so pleasing that I have never experienced my music to sound so good. Passive is...

I purchased my N272/250DR combo a couple of years ago with an upgrade journey set fair for an XPS DR or 555PS DR, a Fraim and some new speakers - a well-trodden path in these parts. Straightforward, or so I thought. Until Bert's thread. I am probably not alone in being drawn to Bert's odyssey with his new ND555 (and the emergent experience of others). I too thank him for relaying every step, even though it now means I have my nose pressed firmly to a crowded window. That said, allocating...

Been very happy with the Focal Chorus v 816 as a replacement for the Allaes. After more than a month of use i have not experienced one second of unrest/fatique. The Allae are sold and the owner is very happy with them (nac272/nap200). They are placed at the exact same position in my living room as the Allaes. Placement of the Allaes was finetuned by my dealer last september. Sound is very clear, open, full, prat, no grain, it is all there. More to my likings than the Allaes ever where. They...
