Hi Nigel , You have previously given me excellent and much valued upgrade advice. I would be grateful to pick your ( and of course other members ) brains on a potential upgrade. I have £5000 to spend and want to upgrade my amps. For ease of reference my system is CDX2 / 122X / 150X / FC2X & Wilson Benesch Arcs. The choice is ; 1. Pre loved - swap the pre and power amps and £5000 for 282 and 250 DR and keep the FC2X to partner the 282 or 2. Brand new - buy SN2 , sell the amps and power...

All of a sudden, my NAP250DR is emitting a loud hum, as if I've suddenly got an earthing problem. Much equipment switching, replugging and resiting later, it's evident that there's a mains supply factor in play. As I'm out here in rural Spain, this could be down to any number of factors. I'm going to monitor the situation over time to see if the problem is temporary, but if it's not, I'm probably looking at a mains cleaner. Yes yes I know they're frowned on and I know why, but I may have no...

I've had Dynaudio Confidence C1 Platinums in my 272+XPSDR>250DR system for almost three years now and never bothered to add sand to the stands until yesterday. On Dynaudio's advice both stands were filled 2/3 to 3/4 full with "play sand," a product designed for sandboxes that has been washed and dried. I expected some tightening of the bass, and that's about it. The actual result, however, was both extremely pleasant and unexpected: not only is the bass tighter, but it goes lower with...

My 2003 Nap 200 has just gone to Naim for a long overdue service. Looking forward to having it back, enjoying the benefits of the service and that few days that you think you won't ever want to upgrade anything ,ever again!! Enevitably of course the upgrade bug will bite - and I would appreciate your advice. Having been chastised previously on the forum I now know the original 200 cannot be DR'd. If I add a Hi Cap Dr does it achieve the same result. Or should I change to a 200 DR OR!!! is...

The great turntable adventure continues. Right when I was one click from purchasing the rp10, I received a notice about a dealer in England named Peter Swain. From what I can tell, he is “the man” when it comes to linn lp12’s. His recommendation on a turntable seem spot on. I’m really close to purchasing one from him and having him come over for set up and a visit in November. Evidently he does this a couple different times a year with clients in the USA. With naim components and a lp12...

My first son is now 7. As a toddler, he could care less about all the black naim boxes. He enjoyed music - but didn't give the black boxes a second glance. Rega boxes, with their silver buttons he found interesting - he would go press them repeatedly - so Rega had to go. Baby#2 is now about a year. He loves pressing the buttons on the 552. And pulling the volume know off the 272. I tried to put a grille in front of the Naim system. He loves to rattle/shake it. I am afraid the big system will...

Hi, I have Naim Uniti Atom and Focal Aria 926. I'm happy with setup, but I'm getting NOT enough bass in some cases, especially while listening metal and rock. The music is "thin". Also I've made some measurement from listening position, and I there is a big roll off down, starting from 50hz. So this is the bottom line of Aria 926 in my case (although the manual says that 926 speakers reproduce bass starting from 45hz). So I'm planning to buy a subwoofer to make bass stronger. My dealer...

At 13 years old, it's about time for my 552 to take a trip to the spa. My dealer is lending me a 272. I hope we can get along with one DIN input! It will be fun to try the new technology.

Hi there I see questions regarding long term Switch ON of amplifier and i thought i would ask the reverse question. Before moving to the SN2 - i had the naim nait 5i-2 which i like and i still have. Its packed up in its original box though and on a loft. How long can i keep it that way without powering it ON ? To some this might sound crazy - i am planning a 2nd home which will be ready in about 3 years. Can i keep the Naim nait 5i-2 mothballed like this ? just like they do with aircraft and...

While cleaning shelves containing my active system, I left one of my Nap 250s on by mistake and powered up the supercap. Heard a loud crack[not a thump] thru the speakers. Now I have a low very muffled sound and volume control does not work on my Nac 52. I think I may have serious damage but was hoping somebody could diagnose the problem. My source is a CDS3 and everything sounded great before I started monkeying around, Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions from the Naim collective.

I've been looking for a really solid location for my turntable and I've found it at last. I can't detect the faintest movement of the turntable. Why I never thought of this before I don't know. Just thought I'd share my discovery with other vinyl lovers. The deck is a Dual 721 direct drive, with an Entré MC cartridge connected to a stageline.

So bought a N-Sub a while ago and this is first time hooking up. Using 10 M Naim N-Sub cable and hooking white rca into channel 1 and red into channel 2 of N-Sub, then hooking into spare din on 552 PS, bottom left. Power but no sound and stumped, any help would be appreciated.

hi members have been using Naim NAC speaker cable my dealer had a cancelled order of a 2.5 meter pair of Chord Reference signature cables which he has offered to me at £700 retails at £1125 takin it home to try it about a hour ago problem is if I try connecting the right speaker output on my 300 amp it won’t reach the right speaker is there any reason why I can’t connect the right amp speaker output to the left speaker and left output to right speaker i know this means the balance control is...

Just bought a second hand Naim CDX2 - it is 2004 vintage, hence the first version of the CDX2, without digital output. The remote control (Narcom 3) doesn't work. I have tried new batteries to no avail. Any idea what might be wrong? Can they be repaired? Or will I have to buy a replacement remote? I noticed most dealers sell the Narcom 5 remote - will this work with a CDX2 (early version)? Thanks, Nick

Hi All, With so many reading on humming threads, i think my case is quite different from others. so hope anyone can help. When I use Power line lite directly plug into wall socket, there was hum throught speaker (even at 7 oclock, i can hear it from 1m away), it gets louder with volume turn up, but when i use a converter without earth plug (two pins socket) , the hum goes away. Simialr thing happend on using headphone, only thing is when plug in headphone socket the speaker hum disappear but...

Hi, Since I have no more allowance on Hifi until after summer, I can safely write this: Since a few months I have a Nac 72 and Nap 140. Impressed by it, and it helped me to understand phenomenons 'prat' and 'flat earth'. It works very well with my turntable. Now I read that people have paired the Nac 72 with Hicap (obviously) but also Nap 135s. Monoblocks! To me, since I already consider the Nac 72 / Nap 140 quite fast, it sounds like an excessive combination to me. In what cases is such a...

Recently there have been number of threads where the subject of the power output of NAIM power amps have been discussed and I wondered if someone can explain some questions I have in regard to this subject.... In Hifi News both the NAP 250DR and NAP 500DR were reviewed some time ago and both got good ratings for sound quality. However looking at the lab tests: The NAP 500 DR was able to produce 144W/233W into a 8/4 OHM load, and 142W/228W/322W/348W dynamic power into a 8/4/2/1 OHM load. Max...

hi, i’m new To the forum and to the Naim products but in the last time looking for a more compact solution I ended up in Plato and then in Naim Star. i’m quite satisfied by my current System Exposure 2010s2 + Neat Motive 2 but I’m looking for a compact system without loosing the current sound quality hence I’m evaluating the Star with Iota Alpha speakers. The change will be pretty expensive but I wonder if I’ll loose or gain something on the sound point of view (for sure I’ll gain the...

Hi, I think I made the connections in the right way, but since the sound I got is very embarrassing, a boxed sound, cold without any scene, and without harmonics. I would not like to have something wrong in the links, someone can kindly tell me the exact connection diagram. Regards Sorry for my English

Just been reading updates from Forum members who heard the ND555, which albeit good, is a large outlay of money. Surely there is an audiophile market for its DAC? Does anyone see Naim releasing a stand-alone DAC from the ND555, perhaps at a third of its price? I’d be in the market for that.

I thought I'd take a comment Analog made out of the original thread because leaving it there might risk a gem to remain buried, and because its relevance goes beyond a discussion of models and brands Analog has actually managed to articulate something I've been struggling to put into words for ages. When I first heard the SCM40s at home, I felt they were the bee's knees, the dog's testicles, (for our non-native speakers " the best of the best") What was driving them? Exactly what you're...

I'm loving my old 45 rpm singles at the moment.....even if there are more clicks and pops, the sound stage seems much bigger and open than 33 rpm records. Does anyone else find this?.... Clive
