Has anybody encountered, or produced, a graphic of some sort depicting the possible product upgrade routes and also product “groupings” ie this group represents “entry level”, this group represents a step up from entry level and so on?

Hi, I'm thinking, why do rock and metal music sound harsh and without (or with very little) bass? I had 3 hi-fi systems and on all of them I had really poor rock and metal sound experience. Seems that all music is recorded only on upper mids and highs and without bass or with really little bass. On low volumes I actually do NOT hear bass at all, only upper mids and highs. And I really don't understand why it is so. I think metal and especially rock should be energetic music with powerful...

Current system: 272/PS555 DR/ 300 DR Would be very interested in having the the new ND555 streamer which will cost close to 20K here in US. Already have the PS555. I would then need to buy a separate pre-amp either a 252 and SC or a 552 along with associated interconnects and 2 more Fraim shelves. I'm quite happy with my current system but as most of you on this forum understand, always looking for upgrade. The cost is very substantial about 45K with the 252 option and about 55K for the 552...

I enjoy reading the Daily Digest, although most of it may not be relevant to me at the moment there is always something to learn that can sometimes be utilised at no expense in my own system. It's also amusing to read others prejudices and experience especially when they don't match our own (we all have prejudices), it shows that we all hear music differently. I must say that I'm still amazed at the number of people who have bought equipment and then talk about upgrading it a month later!

Ok so following a number of years of upgradeitis, I have some spare kit just lying around...(doesn’t everyone?).... I also have a daughter who is suggesting that Dad might like to offload some of his spare kit - I have other stuff (made in Huntingdon, but not Quad) as well. Hmmm, anytime my daughter sidles up and opens the conversation with “Papa.....”, I know it’s going to cost! Naturally she has engaged Mum, who would be delighted if some of my collection of amps & speakers were to...

Hi - I'm looking to upgrade speakers for the Uniti Nova, however there are some constraints that I need to work within (so any suggestions would be welcome). 1. They need to be off the floor (as I have a toddler), so will be put on brackets off the wall. 2. given #1, they need to be front ported as they will likely end up close to the wall. 3. listening area is 25' x 14', with the speakers facing the longer side with the listening position roughly 14' away from the speakers . 4. Budget c.

Hi all. I just brought Naca5 cable and was trying to solder it into the pin provided, but I realized that the pin groove is too small to fit in all a5 copper. My question is, am I brought a fake cable or the pin is not correct? Pin came together with Naim amp. dont know how to attach a picture, otherwise it should explain more clearly. Thank you Kwan

Last week I bought a Linn Sondek and a Naim Stageline K. When I switch on the motor rocker switch there is a loud "pop" through the loudspeakers. I took the deck back to the dealer who was unable to reproduce the "pop" unless he arced the switch. He was using a Cyrus Signature phono stage. I took the deck back home and plugged it into the mains, leaving it unplugged from the Stageline. When I switched the motor on there was no "pop". When I plugged it into the Stageline the "pop" was well...

I started out with my turntable choices being vpi prime/prime signature or the Rega RP10. Due to owning a Naim Fraim stand, I eliminated the vpi—too large of a footprint. I have been looking at the Clearaudio Ovation. So I guess now it’s rp10, Ovation, or maybe even the LP12. The Linn scares me. I’m not into servicing it every year. I’m a 7 hour drive from the dealer. From what I’ve read, the Ovation and the rp10 are “virtually” maintenance free. Also, if I choose the rp10 or the Ovation,...

I'm a hoarder pure and simple, and hate getting rid of things, or perhaps am poor at selling/passing things on, especially when they were expensive purchases to begin with. My hi-fi journey began in the mid 80's having 'looked after' a fellow Uni student's kit over the summer holidays - a revelatory Pink Triangle turntable coupled with I think an Onix OA 21 and some Mission speakers, sounded gorgeous when all I had at University was a cheap and nasty Sony turntable hooked up to a fondly...

Blimey, it seems a while since I have posted here looking for an upgrade but ten years fly by So whats changed, I am sitting here listening to Steve Wilson's latest thinking, yeah, its good but maybe it could be better. So where to start? I am not looking to change the front end, the CD555, Roksan TMS and NAT 01 IMO can't be bettered, well not this side of £50K! The 552/500 to me, still powers the system admirably. So maybe its time to look at changing the speakers. Those that know me, will...

Inspired by the musical offerings provided by Ian (TabbyCat), I am thinking of purchasing a cassette deck for the handsome sum of a grand. What would you suggest? I don't mind pre-loved if it has come from a good home. Are there particular things that I should look out for? For example service history. I may be tempted to spend a little more ????

It's time for a step up from the Linto, but how high to leap. The candidates so far are the new Cyrus Signature with its power supply. This could be comparatively auditioned as it would be bought new. A pre loved Uphorik, around £1200. A used Superline, around £1200 to £1500. This choice would create the most dilemmas at the same time as possibly the best results. It can be powered from the 282 but then how much better would it be from the others. Add a used Highcap DR at around £800. This...

Hey all, My current main set-up is the following: a pair of B&W PM1 driven by an Atom feeding the highs, the LF being handled by a NAP100 amp and the whole system works a treat. But since being on this forum and some others I'm very curious to try different things (and my wallet doesn't thank the forum for that) and update/upgrade disease strikes again: I just had the opportunity of grabbing a beautiful pair of Allae at a good price. Never heard those before and just buying them for the...

Hi, I was browsing official Naim webpage and found information, that "...the new Uniti Atom can be upgraded with one of our external power amplifiers, such as the compact NAP 100." So I'm thinking would it be any quality differences connecting NAP 100 to Uniti Atom (apart from additional 10 watts of power)? Is it worth upgrading? Anyone tried? Nap 100 is quite cheap, so it would be good investment if sound quality is better. My speakers are Focal Aria 926.

I ponder and ask this question as I’ve been reading all the posts around this latest item - and admittedly, would also buy it if I could. Surely there’s a point sound cannot get any better? Obviously by me reading this forum and enjoying a full Naim system, I’m in the class of appreciating outstanding music reproduction, but taking a step back I equally need to take a reality check! The human ear/brain has its limit. So what next? In 10 years, 20 years?

Hello. Just join this forum. Thinking of buying the Nova but would like suggestions on which of the above speakers would best suit. My room size is 4m wide and 5m deep. Music is vocals, acoustic, jazz with a little rock. Don't like bright treble, mids are the priority, bass should be there but not dominant. Looking forward to suggestions. Cheers Razuu

Hi, Currently have a 272/250DR combo connected by Powerline lites. Would there be any noticeable gain from adding a powerline and if so, do I connect it to the 272 or the 250DR? Thanks Gordon

I love my Olive gear and have worked my way up to an active system - 52/Supercap/SNAXO2-4/Supercap/4 x 135s/Allaes - all serviced and in tip top condition, fed from various sources including CD Rips via MAcbook Air and DAC-V1. My room is about 5m x 4m and houses the AV system (integrated into the Naim system) as well - this includes AV2/NAP-V175/n-Cent/n-Sats and n-Sub. I feel like I am just about as far as I want to go and love the sound, but wonder whether it's worth hunting down a set of...

Hi all, it's been a while and I'm sorry for the ill-informed question as my first one in forever, but I'm picking up a late 2016 NDX later this morning and I just wanted to know for sure what it should come with? I'm assuming a power cord, remote, burndy blanking plug (I think) plus the box and manual. What interconnect would I need to connect it to my 552 (I'm using it for now without a separate power supply) and should it also come with that? Many thanks all

Been swapping around a 52 and 252 in my system which has involved a few power off/on cycles for everything and also moving the NDS (carefully) from the top of the stack a couple of times. So now... no LH channel with either pre-amp in place from the NDS. Other inputs are fine. I've checked the interconnect by swapping in an old one-same result. I have racked my brain for something simple or stupid I may have done but the only conclusion I can come to is that I have somehow annoyed or damaged...

Hi all, after some consideration I determined I would like to upgrade my Supernait 1 at first by getting a separate power amplifier. This is mainly because I am more sure about the "final configuration" than with the pre (282 or 252). Since I buy only used: Should I a get a used 250.2 or directly a 250DR? Price difference at eBay is around 1.500 EUR. So my reasoning is as follows: Getting the NAP250.2 will quite certainly make a nice positive impact on the performance of my setup and this...

I've checked recently to see that my Allaes were spiking onto the concrete beneath my carpet. All I can say is that they are now. The Allaes are slightly awkward imo because of the leaf spring. I was never quite sure if the 'give' as I attempted to rock the lower box was because of the spring or because one of the spikes was not touching the floor. It makes a surprising and pleasing difference to get them spiked down. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for decent performance, if they have...
